Good luck to our Pike county friends. New Boston is playing very well now though after putting a scare into Eastern and Notre Dame. Western played them tough at New Boston so this could be a competitive game. I will take the Tigers by 10.

Western is struggleing to find there self right now . Not setting screens or boxing out just not doing all the little things that can turn into big things if not fixed. Coach has been addressing those things in practice . So I hope the boys listened . I really wish we would go back to the style of basketball that got us a couple early wins though . Getting out and running . One night it will all come together and when it does Western will be a hand full.

Lightle04,

From reading your posts earlier in the year it seemed as if the young Indians started off the year playing decent by winning a couple of games early on, and despite getting beaten by some really good teams for the next few games, were showing signs of improvement. However, it appears that something negative has happened since then. One of the teams they beat early in the year (East) pounded them in the last week or so, and then the other team they beat (Green) beat them by double digits. I realize that both of those games were on the road, but the margin was hard to understand. Also, they play New Boston to the wire at New Boston and then get drubbed by them a few days ago at home. One way to measure growth or improvement is to compare your play from the first time you play a team with the second time. From the outside looking in, not having a seen them play, and simply looking at the scores of games and reading comments, it would seem they are regressing instead of improving, or at a minimum, they are not improving at the same rate as their opponents are. They have a couple of other measuring sticks coming up with Eastern Pike for a third time - this time at home, and Portsmouth Clay, who they barely lost to early on the road. I have to believe that this is not where everyone thought they would be at this point in the season ( 2 wins ) especially after winning 2 early. I know they are young, but young teams usually improve pretty quickly, not necessarily in terms of winning but just their overall play.
What is the deal? Do they still have everyone that was playing early on, or is someone injured or off the team? There has to be some explanation!

They are a much different team now than what they were at the beginning of the year they no longer push the ball and play uptempo , no one is hurt but the rotation has changed dramatically.

What reasons do you attribute the changes to (tempo of the game and the rotation)? Are the natives getting restless with the losing? I know people weren't expecting miracles with such a young team, but to win 2 of their first 3 or 4 and to be where they are now has to be disappointing. I sense that it is at least for you cause you were on here posting like crazy early on and now I have to wait til the next day half of the time to even get a score and it usually comes from someone else. Don't you think Kite could have won 2 games?

It is disapointing that were a 2 win team but the kicker is we could have about 6 wins we blew the Clay game the Symmes,Paint Valley,New Boston games I don't have the answer only opinions on the matter but everyone has an oppinion. And we don't need to drum up last summer our kids have heard that stuff enough.

When you look at Western's scores from the first 10 games of the season. They couldnt have been getting the ball out and running a whole lot? Here are the total points scored early on.

East 43 pts (40 pts on the SOC Central thread)???
Manchester 42 pts
Clay 39 pts
Green 45 pts
Peebles 26 pts
Waverly 31 pts
Eastern 36 pts
New Boston 52 pts
Southeastern 36 pts
Notre Dame 31 pts

Team average = 381 pts/10 games = 38.1 ppg

Team average last 6 games = 293 pts/ 6 games = 48.8 ppg (This number is also against a weaker schedule than the above 10 games)

These numbers would lead me to believe that the problem lies more on the defensive side of the court or with pts off of turnovers or a lack of rebounding allowing 2nd and 3rd shots for their opponents?

You are correct Coach has tried pretty much any and everything to get us on track it's just not happening for us right now. He will get the boys straight though I'm sure. As long as they keep working. You just get frustrated for Coach and the kids cause they are working hard every day to turn the season around and just when you think they have it it gets away from them. All I can contribute it to is youth .

To be honest I am not sure it is going to show forth this year, although I do think we will beat clay. However next year with grooms, lightle, and the five freshman becoming sophmores, a year in coaches system, and a summer in the weight room, I honestly feel you will see an entirely different Indians squad next year.
