Re: Ugh . . . one of SE Ohio's best gets in trouble
the PDT essentially used the AP/ESPN story and stuck a few local facts in it. Want someone to blame, blame ESPN.....or you know maybe the kids.
God forbid these days anyones boy be held accountable. This "I knew him and he wouldn't do that crap" is crap itself. I've had a lot of good friends do a lot of dumb things.
Sorry to rant but I'm always amused when people get mad when a paper reports the facts

kahn
good post. The PDT did use the same AP story that appeared nationwide and added just a few local facts on Cam. I saw the same information in at least two state-wide newspapers in the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Columbus Dispatch.
I've never been a big fan of Huggins because of the types of players he would recruit. Now of course, Cam was already at WVU when Huggins came. Let's just hope that Cam is able to get past this mistake, take the punishment from the legal authorities and from Huggins and move on. Get that college degree and play basketball at the same time. Sounds like a good gig to me!!

I agree about the PDT article not being necessary. Just run the AP story regarding the incident on page two or three of the Sports section like they would have done if Thoroughman had not been involved. Kids make bad choices during their college years, just not sure that they should be magnified with an article like that.*
Re: Ugh . . . one of SE Ohio's best gets in trouble
So the kids should get scholarships, media attention, on-the-side perks, public adulation and more when they do well but no one should report when they break the law?
The trade off of being a NCAA D1 athlete at a high profile school is media attention and you need to take the good with the bad.
As for the PDT, give em a break. Everyone wants to read the news but when the only news happening is bad they get mad at the paper instead of the newsmakers. Portsmouth will be worse off if that paper has to shut down one day. Maybe the town would realize the good side of the paper once its gone.

One, the PDT is a local paper. I imagine on the state and nation pages inside you can find some war or election coverage.
Also wasn't there just a story about AJ Prat, a local guy making it as a college coach in there.
Ok the Dispatch is better but thats like comparing the Columbus Clippers to the Yankees. The PDT is a great paper for a city the size of portsmouth.

The Daily Times is a small-town newspaper ahd the majority of its subscribers want to read local news. If they, or you, want national news, buy a Columbus Dispatch, a USA Today, or whatever big-city paper is available in Portsmouth.
I wish our small-town newspaper would run more local news like they used to.
And...have you guys heard about the U. of Pittsburgh football PA announcer getting fired a few years back for announcing..."Your attention please, would the owner of a John Deere tractor with West Va. license plate number, "E-I-E-I-O", please move your tractor, you are blocking traffic." This is a true story!

hope they get a second chance, and take it to heart.
Re: Ugh . . . one of SE Ohio's best gets in trouble
I disliked the Times coverage, too. Very unnecessary. I also question why anyone posted a thread on the topic? What was the real motive for that, too?
