The player was stuck in the air with nowhere to go with the ball

As I said before, the game was out of control and the fault belongs to the refs who didn't make appropriate calls. Right from the jumpball #4 threw an elbow right into Austin Craigs eye hard enough to knock out his contact with no call. But if it makes you feel better placing the blame on one kid then go ahead. Wellston has a good group of kids so maybe you should know them on a personal level before pointing fingers and placing blame. As far as student sections, wellston played at Athens and did fine with the student section. A little harder to deal with adults calling you names on the sidelines.

Well, I did meet and know one of the players now ... Went down to the rec center and seen Justus playing with some other players from around the TVC ... I pulled him aside and asked him what the heck happened last night ... He didn't offer an excuse (cause there is none for shoving a player after the whistle) But he did give me a reasonable explanation. What I liked to hear most was his reply stating "I" was having a bad day ... "I" lost my cool for a second ... "I" won't allow that to happend again ... He didn't blame the player he shoved, didn't blame the emotions of the game and took responsibility for his actions ... Not sure what more you can ask out of a kid.

I didn't like what happened during the game - but I will forgive a player who owns up to a mistake.

(BTW) ... Thought about making him run a few suicides for last night - but being 6-foot-7 - I thought better of it ... and just asked him to keep his cool and go out and play basketball each night ...

You gotta go to great lengths to get the 'inside scoop' I92 ... lol ... I can go work out at the rec center on the weekends and pick up all sorts of good stuff ...

On 3 different occasions 3 different players from southern came after a Rocket player during the game and had to be restrained. Where were the technical fouls? They weren't called! Southern has a very good basketball team. I dont know anything about the players personally. Wellston has a very good basketball team and I do know the players and they are good young men! That game got out of control and very poor officiating is the Blame! Everyone will see this game in their own aspect. But you shouldn't call players out they are still just young men 93 bulldog. Emotions will get the best of all players sometimes. Apparently I am the only person that saw Southerns players being restrained by the so called officials.

I don't think I was 'calling them out' Rocketfan88 ... I just made points about what I seen ... I know they're young men - and once I had the chance to talk to one of the kids today - I got a better understanding that teenagers will make mistakes. But here on SEOPS, posts/comments are made about what one thinks going into a game - then about what happened at the game (either good or bad) ... What happened, happened - and its going to be discussed. I mean, this is what the web site is designed for - how can you not talk about the actions that take place on the field, or on the court, or on the baseball diamond?

I am not surprised, Wellston has always lead the league every year in thuggery.

i was not at the game, nor will I stand up for anything that happened at the game, however some people need to realize everyone has a bad day. everyone who has ever put on a uniform has done something that they should not have. Discuss the game, discuss what happened, but leave the kids names out of it. especially those who have a screen name, rather than a name. i will stand up for the one wellston player.... he is a great kid, but sometimes emotions overtake anything you have learned in the past. Once again I do not agree with what happend, but they are still kids. whether you like it or not it happended the officials didnt seem to think it was enough to be ejected. Get over it. Mistakes happen as long as they learn from them, and do not continue down that same path, then it should be over with.

Very good post jerkin. That was my point exactly. One bad game doesn't mean that these kids are not good kids. I am sure if you were to talk to any of those kids today they would be apologetic for their actions. I do know that Austin Craig was sick on Friday, sick enough to pass out at school and wanted to stay at school in order to play. You know why? I am sure to not let his team down. I am not saying Wellston was perfect in this game but all I was trying to say is maybe more was going on then we could see. Wellston has a great group of kids and I hate to see one game ruin them. Just thing calling kids out on one incident is wrong especially when you do not know them on a personal level. I can tell you that Craig was the kid who wrote a song when Coach D passed away and not only was his song played at the funeral, but he and some others sold the song to donate the money to the Jim Derrow Scholarship fund. So this incident was definitely out of character for him and the other players. I just hope they learn from their mistakes and move onto the next game. And hopefully one game doesn't impact how others view a great group of kids who are going to make mistakes!

They called a foul smart one, showed how much you payed attention and it wasn't an elbow, he went for the ball and smacked him in the face. The Martin kid also made sure he was alright. Craig is the mouthiest, dirtiest player Ive seen in the TVC. No doubt he should of got tossed. He pushed Martin into the stage, Threw the ball in Roseberry's face and smiled about it, and slammed Hill to the floor after the whistle blew on a jump ball. Wellston quit defending your kids. This wasn't the refs fault, this was the Coach's and the players fault. Anybody who was in the gym knew that.

I was not at this game and I'm not sure I can make any sense of what happened since it seems most have a different opinion on it. I do know one this for sure is that every Jeff Caldwell team I have ever seen has been 2 things Disciplined(on and off the court) and Conditioned. I have a hard time seeing any of his players doing some of the things that have been mentioned, I'm not saying it's impossible just that I've never seen it in the past. I can assure all Wellston fans of one thing, If a Southern player acted out of line in any way that player will be punished as well as the entire team for what might have happened. I hope that your coach feels the same way if the accusations are true toward your players, because there is no place for these things in high school sports.

I finally had time to switch out some old photos on the Wellston team page with the new ones from saturdays game ... http://trivalleyconference.com/Wellston.html

I did the same with Southern ... http://trivalleyconference.com/Southern.html

"If it didn't take so much time - I would add more, more frequently ... Its kind of a trade off - spend more time on info, standings, scores, results - or spend more time adding pictures ... I try to do both, but wish I could do more."

Hustling tomato apparently you fell asleep..there was no foul called. The game had to be on hold long enough to put his contact back in and the game resumed smart one. How many TVC games have you been to and please tell me which one he has ever received any technical fouls for playing dirty?? Exactly none of them. Yes, he is aggressive on defense but not dirty. How can you feel good posting such negative comments about any kid? He typically is not a fouled even so apparently you do miss a lot!! If you want I am sure I can get his stats to see how many fouls per game if your so interested:)
