chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
i was thinking they have a shot with leslie, crabtree, and hall back from last years varsity team and eric thompson will step up and fill malones spot pretty well he plays intense D and has a pretty good stroke, they did lose size with strickland gone and 2 all around players in malone and spriggs but with thompson coming up and perhaps kenny crabtree taking the high post as a scrappy undersized big man..northwest looks to be pretty good this year especially since i 've been playing with leslie some and he's just gotten stronger and better he may be untouchable this year...but im just a fan and hoping for the best let me hear some of your opinions....oh and of course they will be coached excellently!!!

Beating Oak Hill and Wheelersburg will be a pretty tall order with what they have returning. I also look for Valley to be very much improved from last year and Waverly will still be athletic as can be. Minford has some pretty good shooters and a nice inside player to boot. I am not sure NW can count on sweeping any of these five teams. Without that a conference championship would be virtually impossible.

Coach SCARBERRY has been told he couldn't do it before, and if you check the trophy case at RH he is the only coach that has put the golden ball in the case without co-champ stamped on it!I know first hand that he can take average athletes and make them players.Good luck coach, and good luck to your young men!If the boys buy into the system with this coach anything is possible....TRUST ME.....I would like to see him put RH on the schedule and make the short trip back to the house that should be his and lay the smack down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't he have an 0 - 20 season at Rock Hill? I know Northwest beat Rock Hill pretty bad when he was at RH as the coach.

Re: chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
it will be tough for any soc 2 team to sweep anybody that is true it's a very tough conference, making for really good basketball games...even though we have always had the talent and athletes to win the s.o.c, i just see northwest being more able to do it this year because hall, crabtree and leslie all had 2 years in 8'th grade due to their age, and were sophmores last year they're now upper-classmen, and thompson is as tough a senior as they come and will be suffocating other players all game long with his D, and crabtree had a very good jv year last year as a freshman because he is so scrappy and his shot is getting better, plus i believe jeremy blankenship can come off the bench and add some points for the mohawks...and as far as i can tell there will be nobody and i mean nobody not from burg not from oak hill not from waverly that will be able to stop leslie, he has the big man moves but can handle the rock and shoot outside... oh and to on a mission we usually scrimmage rock hill and they're usually pretty good games that split most of the time!

I would agree with all-time athlete. Leslie will be hard to stop. If there is a weakness in the league this year, I believe it will be post play. Leslie will have to be considered the best player in the post coming into the season and I don't think anyone will handle very easily.
Re: chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
I dont think Northwest has a good shot at winning the SOC. Basically because the SOC has too much Talent. Starting with the Strong Oak Hill Squad, followed by Burg, Valley, and Minford (no particular order). They are all very talented and very balanced in scoring and ply good defense. Then Northwest. Honestly Leslie is the only play maker they have, and all of their other players are easily matched if not easily overshadowed by any other team in the conference. U stop Leslie you stop Northwest. So no they will not win the SOC.

If they'd ever happen to win the SOC again it would only be the third in school history since Northwest became a school district in 1959. The only other times in school history that Northwest ever won an SOC Championship was in 1963 and 1998.

Re: chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
I'll give you that balance is there for oak hill and burg... but minford and valley...minford has about the same level of talent as northwest but they don't have the standout player....and valley i just don't see them having much man power at all good athletes but really small and outmatched by most of the soc!!!....and the only problem with you stop leslie you stop northwest is if they double or triple him he'll just dish out to a wide open teammate he is a very smart player..and we got shooters this year with crabtree "who shoots just as well as spriggs last year", hall and thompson and even blankenship!...but you never know til the season rolls around, can't wait!!!

Re: chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
I don't think it would be very likely but it could happen as long as Hall and some of the other players step up and play when lesily gets shut down
Re: chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
Minford has Sean Smith(1st Team SOC) who averaged 20ppg, along with Hugh Brisker, and Evan Price. These 3 are as solid a core as any team in the SOC. Valley Is very athletic, have size in B.J. Coleman (6'5") and Brett Powell (6'3"). Along with Cameron Arbaugh (1st Team SOC) and Zach Utley who has mad tremendous improvement throughout the Summer. So I honestly think that NW is near the bottum of the SOC this year. Besides the fact Burg will be without Tyler Lang who was just recently hurt in Fball.
Oak Hill
Burg, Valley, or Minford.
Nwest, Waverly

I guess we'll just have to wait and see it's always a struggle in the s.o.c 2....but im pretty sure brett powell didn't play last year so he might not this year!

Re: chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
I hope the Northwest Mohawks can do good in the SOC 2...but with leslie he is a very good player but personally i think last year he done so good because they had stefan spriggs a really good shooter and justin malone a great athlete...so with malone and spriggs in they spreaded the defense and gave leslie alot of room to work because they couldn't drop off of malone or spriggs. But this year the only real shooter NW has is kreig crabtree. therefore, its not going to be as easy for leslie to score this year as it was last year!
GO MOHAWKS!!!!
GO MOHAWKS!!!!

But this year the only real shooter NW has is kreig crabtree.
Don't underestimate Chase Hall's ability to shoot, and even Eric Thompson. They didn't shoot much last year because they didn't have to with Spriggs and Malone, but they both have nice strokes. Leslie has good vision and sees the double-downs coming. These two guys will help keep the defense honest.

I had heard rumor but now i know it's true that patrick cotton is at northwest now and he has a lot of size and is long like boyce jordan from west was, he's about 6'4 or 6'5 so that helps out with size....i heard he still needs a lot of work but if any coaches can do it scarberry, spears and fry can do it!

Re: chances of northwest winning the s.o.c?
I went down to northwest on sunday and played ball with some of the team and i must say one of the better shooters this year that people should watch out for is jeremy blankenship very pretty stroke, other aspects of the game still need some work but the kid can flat shoot...and mark moore could get in some minutes this year on varsity too, and patrick cotton will be a huge help to leslie with his size like strickland was last year it will make it very difficult to double leslie all the time...so after playing with them yesterday i still think they have the ability to win the s.o.c i just hope they have the mindset!

from what ive been told Chaise Hall had some lights out games during the summer and has improved tremedously as a shooter. Eric may not kill you offensively but he will hurt you if you leave him open and he is a great defender. Kreig Crabtree can shoot and can run the court well. Pillsbury Blankenship was the best player on the JV coming down the stretch last year, i think he may have a better touch than Kreig. Ethan Tolle is agressive in the games he will get in any ones face and wont back down probably more offensively talented the Kenny Crabtree. Kenny is hustle, hustle, hustle, hopefully his offense has improved enough so he can give us 4-6 points. Hank will be the best player in the SOC II his work ethic and desire to be better is unrivaled, look for him to have around 20 ppg this year.
also heard that Cotton will be lucky to play on any team this year JV or Varsity
