Game wasn't even that close!!! Evidently it's not legal to press in the SOC!!! SV looked and played like they had never seen a press before!!! I thought SG would win...just not in a blowout!!!! Maybe a little payback from football!!!???? Good luck to both teams tho!!!

This is a very good sign for the TVC-Hocking in terms of sectional tournament seeding. Not as much for South Gallia, Southern and I guess Eastern (with the way the Eagles are playing right now) - but for the other teams in the D-4 sectional at Athens ... You would have to look at a team like MILLER (who only lost by 9 to SG) and actually put them ahead of Symmes Valley (at this point of course, still lots of hoops to be played) ... But to even think that a (1-19) Miller team in 2010/2010 could actually be as high as the No. 4 seed this year is kind of crazy.

South Gallia 77
Symmes Valley 50 final

... too much of EVERYTHING for the Rebels vs Symmes Valley on Christmas Eve "Eve" ... started out with a South Gallia 16-5 run in the first 4 minutes and 31 seconds < Matney squared> started the scoring with a trey apiece to start the scoring in the 1st quarter and it didn't end until the Rebels had put this one to bed 29-5 at the end of one ... game, set, and match South Gallia 77 Symmes Valley 50 a final ...

... Pfloyd's Official/UNofficial Napkin Stats - Symmes Valley...

Scoring : Rowe 19/Miller & Baldwin 6 each/Wheeler & Corn 5 each/Herrell 4/Wilson 3

3 Pointers : 2/12 ... Wilson 1, Wheeler 1

FT's : 8/12

TOs : 26 on the game - ouch!!! ... SG pressured full and half court the entire game ... was tough on the SV youngsters out front...

... Pfloyd's Official/UNofficial Napkin Stats - South Gallia...

Scoring : Cory Haner 22, Danny Matney 15, Dalton Matney 14, Levi Ellis 14, John Johnson 10, David Michael 2

3 Pointers : 8/28 ... Danny Matney 5, Dalton Matney 1, Cory Haner 2

FT's : 11/18

TO's : 9

... the story of this one was South Gallia varsity EXPERIENCE (5 senior starters) vs the Symmes Valley INEXPERIENCE (only one returner from last years varsity - a sophomore at that) ... if you want to look at the numbers SG (8/28 treys) vs SV (26 TO's) ...

The small division of SOC is really weak. Last year SG and Whiteoak were .500 teams and beat SOC Co-Champions SV and Green respectively in the sectionals. As for Miller, they have some nice young talent and I predict they are going to get a couple upsets at their place this year. Glad SG has that trip behind them.

Wow ... I am shocked that Floyd made the trip to Crown City to take in a D IV game down on the river! lol ... I may have to quit picking on him for 'leaving out' the little guy.

I'm shocked and dissapointed that (a) He didn't tell me, I may have made the trip as well if I knew he was going and (b) that he had to 'one-up' me in terms of visiting the 'small school TVC gymnasiums.' ... I go to Corning - he drives all the way down to Crown City ... Thanks Floyd - show me up why don't ya!

RebelCat wrote:SG. Team still has not come together as I had hoped. Too many times the ball is rushed up court and one pass (if that) is made before forcing up a shot. I love the heart and intensity this team displays but wish they would realize they will be remembered more for what the team accomplishes not what an individual accomplishes. I still believe this TEAM has a shot at being SG's first TVC champion but only if they play as a TEAM.

Good luck tonight Rebels!

Being on the losing side of the bleachers at that game I was impressed with SG intensity. I saw nothing wrong with rushing the ball down the court, one pass and put it up. Most of the time it went in. Reminded me of the 70's and the run and gun style where scores were normally in the 80's and 90's at game end. Carl York (Fairland) coached this style of ball and was very successiful at it. I have nothing but praise for the style of play I seen at SG. You have a very talented team with a balanced scoring attack, a very effective full court press and what I saw was a very unselfish team play. Keep it up boys, your making Donnie look good in his old age! Just kidding. You should have seen him play! Very talented player!

Good Luck.
