Kretzer 43 (21 first half, 22 second half)
3/4 length shot at first half buzzer was amazing
White 13
Kelly 10
Corcoran 8
Ward 7
Davis 6
Hart 2

Zach Farmer 21
Brabson 14
Watkins 9
Moore 6
Jeremy Farmer 6
Williams 4
Jordan 2
Brewster 2

Kretzer broke the gym record with 43. It was formerly 42.

Game 1...impressed with Lykins tonight. He did a nice job inside for the eagles again. For Western, the Lightle kid has improved and the freshman shanks is impressive for his age.

Game 2...Kretzer was amazing. For Piketon, Brabson was tough again and the point position for Piketon is again in good hands.

Good luck to all the Pike county teams the rest of the year. Hope to see you all at the Convo!

Big win for Waverly, glad to see Kretzer get the record, well deserved.

Waverly doesn't win this game without the play of Zach Corcoran off the bench, hats off to him!

I'll echo the sentiments of others. The play of Zach Corcoran was huge for Waverly. He's becoming more comfortable and confident on the court. Transition from football is complete.

Kelley did a nice job handling Piketon's pressure. He hit some key shots in the third quarter. JP continues to shoot the ball with confidence. Usual good game from Ward.

Boy can Piketon hit their foul shots. They are smooth. Very impressive performance from Bradson both in his skill and good sportsmanship. I saw several acts of good sportsmanship from both Bradson and Kretzer throughout the contest. Good Kids!

Would be neat to see both Waverly and Piketon win their league. Good Luck!

Totally agree about all the above. A big difference in Corcoran the past two games and last night was huge. Ward may not score 10 points every night but he is always very valuable in everything he does. White and Kelly both doing their jobs well, hitting key shots at different times - playing solid hard nose defense. Let's not forget Davis off the bench doing a nice job as well. Hart went down early in the 1st with what turned out to be a hip pointer, praying for a speedy recovery. Heibel came in for a short stint in the first half but was noticably limping after the game - hoping there's nothing serious there. He's a young man (soph) who will improve as the year progresses and be very valuable to the Tigers the next 2 years.

As toast stated, great sportsmanship from all involved throughout the game. You'll have the normal "trash talking" when two rival county schools are playing each other but when it was all said and done sportsmanship prevailed.

Kretzer is just amazing. 25 points in 2 1/2 periods of play Thursday night and then to go off for 43 last night in such a balanced manner. 9 points 1st period (one 3 ball, two 2's, 2-3 FT's), 12 points 2nd period (two 3 balls, two 2's, 2-2 FT's), 12 points 3rd period (one 3 ball, four 2's, 1-2 FT's), 10 points 4th period (four 2's, 2-4 FT's). Most would think with 43 points he must have hit 7 or 8 threes but it was only 4, most of his points were in the paint. The threes he did hit were from way behind the arc. The thing even more amazing is he does it by envolving everybody else - it's not like he is the only guy shooting the ball. I have no clue what his shooting % from the field was but it had to be high. And if you don't know Jake, he is a fine young man.

Brabson and Zach Farmer came up big for the Steaks last night. Brabson with 16 in the 1st half to finish with 18 and Farmer 12 & 8 to end the night with 20. Farmer was 9-10 from the line, 7-8 in the 2nd period. Prayers for a speedy recovery for Wyatt Brewster, hoping nothing serious.

After Kretzers amazing 3/4 length shot at the buzzer to end the 1st half and a 21-17 Tiger 3rd period, Waverly ran away with it in the 4th. Not sure if Waverly's overall speed and constant pressure wore down the Streaks or not but they couldn't make a run in the final frame.

Another great championship game with the Rotary Cup Trophy landing back in Tigerland.

great game by Waverly Jake showed why he is one of the if not the best high school basketball players in southern ohio. Zach and Brock davis made big buckets throughout the game, taylor played great defense and Jp hit several shots.
Piketons defense was terrible until the 2nd quarter (no ball pressure) when they pressed and got themselves back in the game causing turnovers easy buckets and lots of trips to the free throw line. Kretzers 3/4 shot at the buzzer was a huge lift for Waverly because piketon had swung the momentum during that quarter. 3rd quarter Piketon didnt get any pressure on the ball again and waverly stretched the lead out which continued into the 4th.. this was kinda the same scenario of piketons game against eastern when they clamped down the pressure they were at their best and can play with anyone they just need to come out with that defensive intensity and do it for a whole game. Scoring is not a problem for Piketon they shoot the ball well hit their free throws and have 3 players who are going to put up double digits almost every night.
Both of these teams will continue to improve and have legitimate shots of winning their respective conferances. Good luck to both teams

Is 43 a new gym record? I thought Walls had 44 his senior year to break Eric Bodager's old record of 42.

I thought JB Edwards of Huntington had 44 in a sectional game there as well.

Anyways, unbelievable game from Kretzer, but if the rest of the Tigers don't step up, it's going to be a tight game. Jake seemed to live for the games against Piketon at the Classic. Congrats to the Tigers.

Very good game with great players as well. Kretzer could not be stopped, that's the way he should play the rest of the year. Williams is a very good defense of player, but couldn't handle Kretz. Brabson and Watkins played the best Defense to me. Kretz i think scored 4 points in about 5 minutes of Brabson guarding him and probably 10 in about 7 min of Watkins gaurding him. i was very pleased how we handled Piketon's entinsity, those kids were on every loose ball and trying to take every possible charge. John Paul played excellent hitting big shots and devin handling the ball very nice. Zack came in with fire that sparked us as well. Hats off to the sportsmanship of Piketon though, the didn't run there mouth hardly at all and about every dead ball, Brabson took charge and got the crew together, he has really grew over the past years. Piketon needed Moore on his game, and he just couldn't bring it with john paul all over him. Great game to watch, congrats Tigers and Kretzer with the amazing performance!

The game with JB you are talking about was actually more than that I think. I think it was 55 points. It came a day or two after he was not named POY in the league in the first-round of the sectional tournament. Huntington lost in the final to Peebles later that week.

As for last night, Jake was really special. He scored inside. He scored outside. He has great range, and he was good without the ball as well. I also think he is an improved defensive player. In covering the SVC the way that I do, I don't get to see Jake play as much as I would like, but I always thought a lot of Jake in our little league program as well as the classroom growing up, and I am really happy for him.

Marlene Stallings ever play in that gym? She only played in Jackson's old gym 1 time but she had 57 and broke that record.

I also think that the kid from Noth Adams a few years ago against Portsmouth scored 46pts.
Regardless great effort by the Waverly Tigers last night. Team win.

Game over Move on Waverly must now get back to SOC and Piketon needs to concentrate on Winning the SVC.

Nice win for Waverly. Piketon played in spurts and it killed them. Friday in Frenchtown the league resumes. Lets Go Streaks~!
