WOW.............WHO LET THE DOGS OUT
Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
why would they run the score up so bad in a benefit game?
Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
Oaks pressed until the final gun. It will take a pretty good team to beat OH this winter. They have lots of depth.
Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
I hear the OHSAA might upset the Oaks. People are starting to wonder about all these transfers.
Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
Keep in mind this was a glorified scrimmage. Norm and Oz are good friends, so I am sure there was no ill will involved. Both teams were probably working on a lot of different things so I don't think it is a big deal.
Good Luck to both teams this season!

gahs4ever wrote:It was a scrimmage played under game conditions and there were two distinctly different philosphies used. GAHS sunstituted often and freely and never one time had their starting five on the floor at the same time. It was a scrimmage to look at combinations and give everyone who dressed (13 for GAHS) an opportunity to play.
Oak Hill on the other hand seemed to treat it more as a regular season game as witnessed by their top four scorers accounting for 61 of the team's 83 points. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just the difference in the way two programs approached the same scrimmage. Who cares about "running up the score" in an exhibition game. I doubt any of our kids will be traumatized or emotionally scarred for life because of a beatdown. If anything it painted a very graphic picture of how much farther we have to go to get ready for the season and what we have to work on to get better.
Oak Hill will indeed be a load this winter. The two big boys in the blocks (Cannon and JD Hale) are very physical and go to the basket strong. Nice touch around the hoop and they knew what they wanted to do with the ball when it came inside. Running the floor and their pressure defense reminded me very much of Norm's good Chesapeake teams. In fact, I noted to friends after the game that the only difference I saw was this Norm team wasnt wearing purple. His fingerprints are all over this team and I mean that as a compliment.
This was an 11 point game at halftime, but the second half was a blur with the Oaks outscoring GAHS 48-10. Quite a contrast to say the least. Up 55-33 after three quarters, OH closed out the game 28-1 in the fourth quarter.
Nice post gahs4ever! I know Norm has nothing but respect for Oz and the Blue Devils.
Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
Looks like maybe Oak Hill's Basketball program would show a little more class than their football program. Come on Norm, I would expect more class from you than I would Phillips.
Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
27 turnovers are not going to win ANY games. After all it was just a practice game.
Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
It was a glorified scrimmage! The game did not count for either team record wise. Who cares what the score was!
It was basically PRACTICE! We ain't talkin bout a game, We talkin bout practice man!

Re: Oak Hill drops Gallipolis 83-34 in benefit contest
For the first time in several years, Coach Osborne made a final cut following last night's pre-season scrimmage.
Two seniors and two juniors were cut, reducing the varsity roster to 10. Some of the juniors who were sent down to the reserves last week will return to the varsity prior to the season opener.
Coach Oz said it was impossible to work with 28 or 29 boys, including the reserves and varsity.
Oddly enough, the Blue Devils had to move up a couple of freshmen last winter because of a shortage of players out for both the reserves and varsity.
The reserves still have an outstanding crop of kids, and should win their share of games this winter.
With some talented juniors back on the varsity, the Blue and White will hopefully improve last years 8-14 overall mark.
Keep up the hard work, Devils.
