Let the coach do his job and pick the individuals that he feels benefits the program the most. That's what he's paid to do. If he chooses poorly then his record suffers and he's fired.
Let's don't let the parents pick the team and hold the coaches responsible.

Whatever happened to the competitive spirit. I mean the kid obvisiously didn't have want it takes to play basketball at the high school level. He need to know that LIFES IS NOT FAIR. just because you got cut from the basketball team doesn't mean the world is going to end. If my kid came home whining about not making a team. I would tell him to grow a pair and get over it. The coac h probably made the right decision hopefully. But the only way we will find out is how the season turns out for Green. And if you think the coach did any wrong-doing the players would speak out but haven't heard anything. Now for his medical condition the kid has to know that with a medical condition hes already at a disadvantage. The kid could've worked a little harder. I believe having heart can overcome everything and obviously the kid didn't have it. End of story Coach was right.

I don't know but the season starts here in about a week or so....you know this is going to have an effect on the players on the team getting ready to play, whether people on here want to admit to it or not. Also with all this going on, and with what happened last year...I would be suprised to see a proven coach want to go to Green to coach after all of this, it was not long ago when Green was the go to job because of how good they were.

not sure this would hurt anyone wanting to coach at green, actualy I think it is a positive, and is good to know the board stands behind the man they put in charge.

Feel the heat of the Furnace! IF there is another board meeting, I'm going to drive up to Green High School to witness the festivities. Concessions would be a great idea and maybe even some commemorative t-shirts should be made up as well!
As others have already, no decent coach (other than a Green graduate) would touch this job with a ten-foot pole were it to come open again. These people don't realize it, but they are destroying their own basketball program under the guise of "looking out for the kids." Look at Valley after the parents ran Lowe out of town, their program is just now starting to recover.*

I still believe that, and I think most of the locals believed the cuts should not have been made. Saying that, everyone knows its time to move on and support the team.
As for T/T, this story has played out, the school board was pretty clear they are done with it and WSAZ doesn't have the story they broadcast last night on the front page of the website.
Go Cats!
The problem you run into with "keeping everyone" is that if there are kids that don't need to be there then they will take practice time away from kids that love the game and want to learn. In coaching if you are going over instructions and you have a kid over in the corner mocking you and the other kids are watching him, how long is it going to take you to get your point across? The bottom line is you keep the kids YOU feel will help the team and are WILLING to learn. Coach Kitchen has been around awhile and I am sure he kept the kids that gave him the best chance of winning games!

One thing I do see; someone should have gone to English Class a little more and BOE meetings a little less.

That is one way to look at it. I am interested to see how it plays out after season. I will be bet my bottom dollar coach told the board if they didnt stand behind him, he would walk. Least thats what I would do. So the board may have been held to the fire. Now, if they fire him after the season, then I would say Green is going to have a hard time finding an experienced Bench Captain.

Re: Green Special Bd. Meeting Monday
Move on TT. It's over. If WSAZ actually came to the school, then someone, thank God, had enough sense to realize that Green Basketball has had enough publicity. Let the kids concentrate on their school work and after school activities and not worry about some idiot parent messing with their school day!
Re: Green Special Bd. Meeting Monday
Hey bushmaster, don't you dare judge all the parents for something a few parents are doing. As a Green grad myself that really hits a nerve. I guess if we were so stupid and small minded I wouldnt have graduated with an attorney, a principal, an MD, a pharmacist, need I continue? I think that shows how small minded you are. I mean, there hasn't been ANY controversy in , gee, Ironton, East, Coal Grove, Valley, Rock Hill, just to name a few. NOt to offend anyone, but that has been the place of some very recent controversies. I have close friends in all of these areas and can tell you they are not aholes, as you so politely stated. As for WSAZ, why would they be allowed in the school? Unless they want to interview the coach or the parents involved, and get the truth, what is the staff of the school supposed to tell them? All they have to tell is hearsay as well.
Hopefully the situation will rectify itself so the team can have a successful year.

Re: Green Special Bd. Meeting Monday
Who was WSAZ there to interview during school hours anyway????The principal???The student body??? The janitors??? This was an issue between the Coach and the Board of Education{ who do not reside at the school most or all of the day}.Maybe the PDT and WSAZ can team up to cover many interesting stories like the Ohio Grassman and the Tooth Fairy.
Re: Green Special Bd. Meeting Monday
HOOT,,I hear there is another hearing coming up on ":the rock" that Portsmouth, stole fro South Shore,, so that should keep PDT, occupied for a while, and wont be back to the furnace
