Warren played a better game. Belpre could of been better prepared. PREPARATION IS COACHING!!!

I support the kids, i want nothing more than to see these kids succeed. They are all competitors and they all hate to lose. Warren played a better game, so give them credit.

Coaching had nothing to do with the one hand look-away passes that resulted in turnovers when the game was within reach late. Quit talking about the coach because I don't think you will see a drill in practice where they dribble down the floor and throw a one hand pass into the wall.

Belpre played hard (one sign of a good coach) and tried to mix up defenses (another sign). They need to cut down on there turnovers and make some free throws (not good there yet).

Warren looked like it was their first game. Young and nervous but played well enough to get the win.

Well then the coaches should rip a player out of the game if they throw a one hand no look pass into the wall, and tell them thats not a good pass, i bet the coaches didnt do that. And Belpre plays hard because there is not one person on the team who wants to lose. They are all competitors, especially when it comes to Warren, and i am sure Warren kids are the same. No one likes to lose, thats why we play hard, we want to win, we want to have that sense of pride when we do win.

Stats:

Warren 71, Belpre 62

Belpre 10 14 16 22 - 62

Warren 17 13 24 17 - 71

BELPRE (0-2)

Erik Waderker 3-4 0-0 7, Scott Loyland 2-4 0-0 4, Markie Tate 5-12 3-9 14, Jared Azar 6-8 1-4 13, Tyler Watkins 3-6 6-8 12, Channing Parsons 3-8 4-5 12, Pat Slattery 0-2 0-0 0, Kelvin Eaton 0-0 0-0 0, TOTALS: 22-44 14-26 62.

Three-point goals: Belpre 4-12 (Parsons 2-6, Tate 1-3, Waderker 1-1, Loyland 0-1, Azar 0-1).

WARREN (1-0)

Clay Ellenwood 6-10 0-2 12, Jonathan Hebb 8-20 2-2 18, Brandon Fivecoait 5-5 0-2 10, Grant Venham 6-14 2-4 16, Austin Cunningham 2-7 3-4 8, Seth Harris 0-0 0-0 0, Andrew Lang 0-0 0-0 0, Devan Anderson 2-9 2-2 8, Eric Hoon 0-2 1-2 1, TOTALS: 29 10-18 71.

Three-point goals: Warren 3-12 (Anderson 2-7, Cunningham 1-2, Ellenwood 0-1, Hebb 0-2).

Rebounds: Belpre 27 (Watkins 6, Loyland 5), Warren 44 (Venham 14, Hebb 6, Ellenwood 6). Assists: Belpre 7 (Tate 4), Warren 15 (Ellenwood 6). Steals: Belpre 8 (Tate 3), Warren 6 (Fivecoait 2). Turnovers: Belpre 22, Warren 20. Blocked shots: Belpre 6 (Loyland 6), Warren 1 (Fivecoait 1). Fouls: Belpre 19, Warren 23. Fouled out: Loyland, Venham.

Junior varsity: Warren 48, Belpre 36

Belpre scoring leaders: Rashawn Miller 12, Tyler Leasure 8, Clay Ullman 5.

Warren scoring leaders: Jace Knost 15, Jeremy Hastie 8, Austin Henthorn 7, Justin Hilverding 7).

It was Warren's first game, and a rivalry game at that, so we can hope that this accounted to some degree for Warren's erratic play, but they bet get better fast. Maddox is trying to get them to play team ball, and when they did last night they developed 10+ point leads. Then, when we should have been stretching the lead, the 1 pass (or no pass) three point shooting starts or the 1 pass drive into traffic and flip it towards the basket while you're falling away begins. Holy cats is this team undisciplined!

Azar getting into foul trouble hurt Belpre, and Fivecoait getting in foul trouble hurt Warren. Without Azar Belpre really doesn't have anyone who is super effective in the post. Without Fivecoait Warren struggles under pressure and starts to get erratic offensively. Fivecoait is a great defender too.

Alas, Hebb needs to relax and quit putting so much pressure on himself. Hoon will come around as will the rest of Warren's bench. They just need to run the dad gum offense.

Kudos to the Warren JV (starting 5 Freshmen) who knocked off the Eagles. Not too keen on all the histrionics from the Belpre JV players. Yuck.

Had to look that one up WWFan. 100% agreed though, not a good way to represent a community.

Histrionics? What is that a school subject. Never heard that word but whatever it means I'll disagree.

Nope, histrionics (with an i).

I like this definition better . . .

(used with a sing. or pl. verb) Exaggerated emotional behavior calculated for effect.

No big deal, but I don't dig that stuff on the basketball court. Too much yapping at the refs and "in your face" kind of behavior. Just play ball.

Don't know where I stumbled across that one, but it fits a lot of behavior in this world quite nicely. Yuck.

:-D

Do you mean when Leasure for Belpre got elbowed in the face causing a deep enough cut to have 6 stitches to close it up? I would be disappointed in a Belpre-Warren game without some emotion. These kids have all grown up together playing with each other on different teams, going to church together, and hanging out together. Considering all the factors of the game both JV and Varsity games were filled with angst and emotion. But what I liked after the game was seeing some players greeting each other and extending well wishes. 20 years from now these kids will be working together and will be community leaders and look back at this rivalry with fond memories.

Belpre has to cut down on turnovers and make free throws. Warren had the first game legs but look to be solid. Good luck to both schools.

GO EAGLES!!!!!

Both teams will do nothing but improve. I look for this game to be an even better contest next time around, best of luck to both teams.

How many of the Belpre JV players are Juniors? I doubt that many if any of the Warrior Freshman have ever played against them.

You mean that juniors are allowed to play on a JV team? Isn't there some kind of national statue on that? No...so all these years Warren could continue to develop players by letting them get JV and varsity time as juniors?

Oh well, dead horse. It's not really a problem this year.

Cunningham and Fivecoait butted heads. hard. really hard.
