SHL in action this week!

Post by BALLER1 »

I believe Whiteoak-Lynchburg play tonight, Ripley plays tomorrow night?! Who is everyone taking in these two?

Friday night games:
Fairfield at Ripley
Fayetteville at West Union
North Adams at Lynchburg
Whiteoak at Peebles

Saturday games:
Eastern vs Waterford @ OU
Peebles vs Alexander @ OU
North Adams vs Chesapeake @ OU
Manchester at Ironton

What are your thoughts on the weekend games?

North Adams plays at Eastern Brown tonight. This always seems to be a very intense game.

Fairfield/Ripley- This one is evenly matched with Ripley at home. Fairfield beat Paint Valley and Ripley got torched by CNE...so Ripley by five.

Fayetteville/West Union- West union 0-2 and Fayetteville 1-0 after huge win over Blanchester. West Union by 15, too much size for Rockets to handle.

North Adams/Lynchburg- To much pressure, too much length on D, too deep, and Unger=North Adams by 23.

Whiteoak/Peebles- Indians at home after drilling Southeastern, Whiteoak on the road after losing to NA. Justice, Arnold, and Seaman too much..Peebles by 12.

Eastern/Waterford- Can Eastern handle the big guy? Word on the street is that Eastern had some players, including the big guy, quit. Cunningham could be too much but Eastern has one of the best coaches around........Waterford by 2.

Peebles/Alexander- This may be the best game of the day. Alexander is deep and experienced and Peebles is talented. Alexander may have a player out but after losing to a strong Bloom Carrol team they will bounce back. Alexander by 3.

NA/Peake- North Adams is deep and experienced and Unger is one of if not the best player in the area. Davis is no slouch in the coaching department but I like North Adams by 10.

Manchester/Ironton- If it was at Manchester I might give them more of a chance as it is Ironton is deep and Lafon knows how to use his kids. Quinlan will give them more trouble than they think but Lamb and the rest are too strong. Tigers by 14.

Is Eastern not playing 2 against NA? I thought this was supposed to be a rivalry, I would be interested to know which team has backed out of the second matchup.

According to the schedule there will be two varsity games later in the season, 1-16-09 at Eastern and 2-10-09 at NA. I apologize for any confusion my post may have caused. North Adams and Eastern did this last year where the reserve and freshman actually played each other 3 times. I think this might be due to the varsity games NA and Eastern play this weekend at the Convo. Since the reserve and freshman won't be playing they have room for an additional game.

Whiteoak beat Lynchburg lastnight 58-39. I thought this one might have been a little closer. From the way C103 talked, there were a lot of coaches there scouting them, being the only two teams playing.

Friday night predictions:

Fairfield @ Ripley- I am going to take Ripley in a close one, it seems like they always do well at home! great matchup in Cox/Jolly. It will be interesting to see how the guards will matchup.

Fayetteville @ West Union- I am going to take West Union by 10. This will be a hard faught game, both teams will push the ball and play extremely hard. I am willing to go out on a limb and say Brewer will be the best dressed in the gym!

North Adams @ Lynchburg- NA by as many as Dave wants. Their press and size will destroy Lynchburg. Only thing that may help is NA plays on saturday so he may sit his starters more to get them rested for the next night, or he could just run it up and send a message. Only one knows what he will do is Mr. Young himself.

Whiteoak @ Peebles- I will go with Peebles by a few. They will matchup well with only a few bigs and mainly guards. I look for Arnold to have a big game in that WO will look to stop Seaman and Justice. I am unsure if WO has seen Peebles and I am guessing Peebles was there to watch WO lastnight!

Saturday games:
Eastern vs Waterford- I would love to see Eastern win this one but I think Cunningham will be tough for them to handle. I hope that Rob hasnt lost any players, I was looking for them to have a solid year. Waterford wins by around 10.

Peebles vs Alexander- I want Peebles to win but I dont know that much on Alexander. Justice will look to have a big game hoping some college scouts are there!

North Adams vs Chesapeake- This will be a great game. The coaches know each other from the days where Davis was at Peebles. Both are great coachs but I look for this to be another great year behind Unger and NA rolls by 8 in this one.

Manchester @ Ironton- Manchester is coming off a lose to Court House who I believe beat Greenfield lastnight. Ironton is coming off a win against Fairland. I look for Lamb to have a bigger game since he isnt playing his old school. Could be a great matchup between Lamb and Quinlan. Its at Ironton so Ironton by 5.

GO SHL and lets hope for some great games!

Rayve Williams and Demarco Washington started and were their top two scorers. There was another listed on the roster that didn't play.

My picks for tonights games:

FF/Ripley: I'll go with Fairfield on this one. Look for Cox to have a big game.

Fayetteville/WU: May be the best game of the night. Will go with WU, think they will be hungry for a win and out to prove something early.

NA/Lynch: Lynchburg has lost quite a bit. NA will dominate.

Peeb/W OAK: Another good game likely. Think Peebles speed and shooting will be a factor and they should win.

Little off topic guys, but there's a feature length documentary about Peebles basketball premiering at PHS on Friday, December 19th at 7pm, called We are the Indians. So if you're an Indian fan, you might want to check it out.

If you're not an Indian fan, you can still come and relive the pain we put you through....

Peebles over Whiteoak tonight 77-58. The score was 43-21 at half-time and the Indians coasted from there. Great overall team effort tonight of getting the ball out and up the court. Rebounding has been very solid in the first two games.

Blake Justice, Andrew Seaman, and Tyler Arnold all had around 20 points each. The Indians exhibited great ball movement and the defense was pretty solid. Peebles probably had 9 or 10 three-pointers during the game.

Good way to start off the SHL and it's off to the Convo on Saturday for a match-up with a good Albany Alexander team.
