Ironton 62 VS BROOKHAVEN 65 - FINAL

Post by caglewis »

The 7:00 game was late getting started because Largo was late arriving due to travel conditions. That game has just now started the 4th qtr, so obviously, it will be awhile before the Ironton-Brookhaven game gets started. Largo is up by 10 or so over Campbell Memorial. Roads are really icy - fortunately the temp is rising - still hovering just about freezing at present. It's a nasty night to be travelling.

Does anyone know where Largo was staying? Obviously, they didn't go back to MD last night.

In Ironton? I was just wondering because Largo was late arriving. I know it's getting icy, but if they were staying in Ironton, I don't see why they'd still be late.

I have no idea, but apparently far enough that the freezing rain/icy roads were a problem for them. Campbell Memorial has closed on Largo in the 4th qtr - Largo's lead now down to single digits - 64-56 Largo with under a minute to go.
To quote WIROJason on another thread
Just a reminder...if you can't make it to the games, WIRO will carry all 7 games live on AM 1230 and online at http://www.800wvhu.com.

You can also access the web stream at http://www.irontonclassic.com.

Ironton - Brookhaven game coming up in just a short while now.
tk421 - bruiser's answer was tongue-in-cheek - there's no place to stay in Ironton. The closest places would be Ashland, Wheelersburg or South Point.
FINAL - Largo 69 - Campbell Memorial 58 at 9:35 - Jason just said approx 30 minutes til the start of the Ironton-Brookhaven game.

Obviously you aren't from Lawrence County. There is no hotel in Ironton that they could stay. Except some crappy smalls ones that I wouldn't take my dog to.My guess is they were staying in Ashland or Huntington and both those bridges were closed due to conditions. At least by the time the last games are over the temp should have risen and the ice melted off the roads.

I do live in Ironton. I didn't know about the Lyle Motel that someone else posted, so apparently there is at least one place. I had to look it up on google.

Jason just said the Largo team was staying in Ashland, and the bridge was closed for a while. Everyone is bragging on the attendance and the great basketball on display during this inaugural tournament event.
Tip-off coming up in about 5 minutes - IT = Ironton ....... BH = Columbus Brookhaven.

Brookhaven drills the Tigers tonight. They play this caliber of ball every night. I know the Tigers are good this year but not Brookhaven good. Watch out for the Sealey boy he is BH leading scorer. Watkins is their SR. leader. BH record is 1-3, they are 0-2 in the city league.

Nice comeback by the Tigers but fell just a little short. Hope that Lamb isn't too seriously hurt.

Post-game - Michael Lamb's akle is not broken, but badly sprained - a lot of swelling.
I just can't type fast enough to really keep up with the game or get all the stats down. I'll post the Tribune report tomorrow.
I can say that the turnovers absolutely reversed due to great IT defensive pressure in the 2nd half.
I'll wager a guess that the Ironton Tigers will have gained enormously from this game [even though they lost] both in pride, and in skills and strategy, and in picking up/adjusting for the injury loss of Mike Lamb. SUPER GAME FROM BOTH TEAMS! What a great tournament this was! Thanks to all those who worked so hard to make it happen and to all the teams who traveled so far to participate.
GREAT JOB ALL THE WAY AROUND!

This Tournament happened because Coach Lafon scribbled some ideas on paper, and ideas became reality (with A LOT of peoples help). Thanks to ALL the helpers, Teams, Sponors and Fans !!! Some GREAT Teams, GREAT players and GREAT Basketball games! This Tournament will be a fantastic event in years to come . The Tournament started with a great game and ended with a great game. Very well played game by Ironton and showing their depth from the bench. Hope Mr. Lamb will recover soon. Thanks Coach Lafon for bringing such a great tournament to the city of Ironton !!

AMEN TO ALL OF THE ABOVE!
What a great first-time tournament start - a great mix of school sizes, geographical area, and previous rep/history in the way of team participants - something for everyone!
Hosting this kind of tournament took a huge amount of planning and needed a whole lot of help from volunteers to make it run smoothly. Thanks to all of them. That dedication you provide/exemplify is what still makes this town GO!
