12/30 Warren @ Maysville

Post by WHSwarrior »

Warren takes a trip up Rt 60 to visit the Panthers in a nonconference game.

The Warriors started to play Warren ball on Saturday at Meigs, and I don't know anything about Maysville.

What's happening with this matchup?

I see that Maysville beat Crooksville and Morgan, but lost to Alexander by 2 points.

The last 2 years Maysville has been young and very good. The coach for Maysville is young, and runs a really tight ship. I like to watch them play. I would say they will be an excellent test for the Warriors.

Warren will definitely be tested in this game and will have to play well to get the W. maysville is very good and returns everyone from a team that made a deep run in the tournament last season. I think they return something like 7 seniors, 2 juniors and a sophomore and the Lewellen kid is very solid.

Go blue!

The Warriors really haven't shown anything to show me that they're going anywhere this season, maybe a step up in competition from Maysville will do something to change that.

Warren needs to continue to dish the ball around, and build on the Meigs game, where four starters finished with double-digit points.

Warren did play well against Zanesville on the road, however, Zanesville's not loaded like last season. Maysville is. Warren drops, hopefully by less than 8.

i hope to see warren pull this one out but they will have to play a lot better than they did saturday night...its always good to have four starters in double figures and hopefully they will be able to do they same tuesday night...i would like to see a little more inside presence from the warriors but if they are hitting the longball watch out they can put up numbers in a hurry...it will be interesting to see how they will do against a very good team....

The Warriors would do well to start hitting the longball, only had 2 made treys last time at Meigs. Where'd Anderson's magic touch go?

Lost to Alexander this year by 11 or so. But warren should match up very well against them.

Who are you that the Warriors have to prove anything. Leave the kids and the coaches alone. I think you your name says alot about you. It takes a small person to constantly tear down others, a bigger man to encourage and lift others up. Don,t call kids out by their name or in reference to a style of play! People that do this really expose their heart for what it is. The coaches really don't need your help to what the team should do offensively or on defense. I think they know the strength and weaknesses of all their players well enough. I hope this is the last time I am on this web site. Any questions you see my screen name.

I agree with the above rebuttal, in all ways but one: Warren would do well to build on their solid performance at Meigs...I think this team is equally positioned as last year's, just lacking a little experience. They're beginning to find their legs, and once they're up on two feet, I think this Warren team can blow through a lot of people.

Playing well against Zville on the road and beating Meigs at Meigs shows that road trips arent going to be an issue for Warren, I look for them to be step in step with a very talented Maysville team.

"Coach for Maysville is young, runs a really tight ship"...sounds a lot like a guy in Vincent, doesn't it?

You say this after only 3 games played and a week layoff between those games. Let's see how they do after they start playing games and can get into a rhythm.

Warren's varsity won in a fantastic game, 50-48. Both teams played like crazy. Maysville is as good as I remembered.

Warren's sophomores were truly fantastic, with Cunningham hitting for 20 and Venham hitting for 14. All the starters played well. Fivecoait played great D and handled the pressure well. When Seth Harris hit for a layup after a major scramble for the ball with 4.6 seconds left on the clock it was the first time that Warren had led the game; but it was the only lead that counted.

This Warrior team still has a bunch of untapped potential, as they still forced things too many times, and took some terrible shots. Regardless, they pulled off the big, big win. Good luck to the Panthers the rest of the way.

The Maysville JV defeated the Warriors by about 10 (Jottings, I'm trying to find out the exact score!).

A huge win for the Warriors tonight. Besides avenging a discouraging loss from last season, this game will be very important and favorable when it comes to tournament seedings. Maysville is a very good team and is well coached. Could be the beginning of a nice rivalry between these two schools. Lots of physical play tonight.
wwf is right. Warrens sophomores are excellent. If either would have had a better game against Zanesville, Warren would be 4-0. Oh well, this team is improving and tonights win proves it.

Fort Frye will be another big test on Saturday. Back to facing man to man defense. Fort only gave up 27 points tonight....

Then Warren will have to hold the Fort to 26!

Way2Go, Blue, great win.

A. They only have three seniors, compared to seven (I think?) from last year.
B. These seniors haven't played a ton at the varsity level, and they're getting their legs, too.
C. Hebb is already providing senior leadership, as is Anderson. Don't know enough about Hoon. The entire team looks to Hebb in the locker room, on the bench, and out on the court.

Can you really expect sophomores to be lights-out amazing in their first away game in one of the tougher places in SEO to play (Zanesville)? A five-point loss in a gutsy game against a very good team...Sounds like a good game to me. And the loss hasn't affected the team aversely...Warren is rolling now! And the sophomores are a big part of it, playing just as well as Fivecoait and the seniors.

So, upcoming, trips to the Fort, Belpre, Marietta, and Gallia with a home game against Logan smashed in the middle...Warren is 2-1 on their 7 of 8 away stretch so far...and they're improving every game.

Go Blue!

comments from the Mayville coach in the Zanesville Times Recorder
"They trapped us and we just couldn't find open guys," Maysville coach Jesse Rupe said. "They played hard and were scrappy and were getting away with everything, and that kind of game was in their favor."

I believe he has nothing to complain about after watching those officials. He had seven seniors (something like that) and they didn't handle pressure well at all.
