Hey Hawkeye. Remember Slab Hale's saying " No Freebies". He sure did practice what he preached. He made you miss just by intimanation. When you drove to the basket, a huge paw shaped hand usually found it's way around or on top of your head. Very fond memories of playing on the out door blacktop behind the old high school football field. You are right about the Number 1 outdoor coach of all time in Barry "Gizz" Gilliland. He was a very close friend and team mate of mine during high school. Rest in peace Gizz............
Pss No offence hawkeye, but I for one would rather see you play than being a cheerleader in those very short dressess. The thought of you doing the splits is not something I want imprinted on my brain for the rest of my life.....All in fun Hawkeye...1974 Viking
Cosmo and Run Bubba Run, your lists look good. Some others who would deserve consideration are Jerrod Albright and Ryan Stewart. Eric Henry contributed big to the 20-0 season, also.

Yes, it is all fun. Slab Hale taught me, it is not the quantity of fouls rather it is the quality of the fouls. You are right, he was good player and always fun to play with, I miss those days. I always enjoyed Gizz too, good shooter and great passer, but he could never keep a good score.
FrankieG wrote:Another good question might be, "who is going to play against this team??"
This is about 1500 pounds of Clydesdales on a basketball court!
How about;
PG-J.J. Hale SG-M. Hale SF-T. Hale PF-T. Hale C-C. Hale
You might have the poundage be would have the age and wisdom. And our coach would be the great Barry "Gizz" Gilliland. But in order to play we must play on the old outdoor court behind the old football field.
Sorry to rain on your parade, hawkeye, but Travis Hale actually graduated from Southeastern. Who's the other T. Hale?
IMO Ill say Dustin, Stewie, Drew, Henry, Grillo,Albright, and Allen.... They played togeather for a while, 3 of them since7th or 8th grade, they work well togeather, plus they went farther than any other team in VC history. Dut could be double teamed, under the basket, and still get his shot. No one has more 3pt. buckets than Stewie. Drew had the most amazing fake layup, only to pass off to Dut or Stewie, and when he was hot, he was one of the 2 highest scorers of the game. Allen must be part gazelle the way he can jump and he aint afraid to go up against bigger boys. Grillo understands his current role and I can honestly say that there isint a coach in SE Ohio that wouldnt be happY to have that kid as a PG.
hawkeyepierce wrote:You really need to brush up on your Vinton County history Jake. Soon to be Hall of Famer Tim Hale, graduated 1981.
So, I take it your team is JJ, Marvin, Tim, Travis and Charlie. The fact remains that one of these players is a Panther. You'll need a replacement Hale. I was surprised you didn't have yourself on there, thought for sure I'd see a P. Hale.
FrankieG wrote:This is a good thought, as a matter of fact, there are wheels turning even as we speak about having an alumni tournement sometime in the future. Still have a lot of cobwebs to work out, but i think this will take place.
My team:
SG- D. Guthrie SF- D. Guthrie PG- R. Caudill PF- J. Caudill C- H. Caudill
But I am a little biased!!
FrankieG, keep us informed about having a possible alumni tourny. This would make for some great fun and possibly a great fund raiser. I would be willing to help out.

Hey Frankie you forgot A. Booth on your list. im pretty sure he still holds the record for assists and games started @ VC
just to even be held in the same breath as these guys is a huge compliment...so i thank the 2 people that braught my name up hahha lol....but id pick last years team against any allstar team from vc u can make up.....we def didnt have the best players ever except for dut. but i dnt think anyone had better team chemestry then us...or were as smart as we were...but hey maybe im biased....

I dont blame you for being biased- its a solid fact of the chemistry that you guys had. There are other names I didnt add that IMO are some very solid players. Ben Batey was a great all-around player himself. After this past season, I also have more respect for Dyl and Brandon. And you cant totally say you didnt have the best players. You, Dut, Drew, and Ben played togeather since.... what.... 5th or 6th grade? You guys werent worried about who was going to be the all-star. No egos to be fed. Thats the one problem you wouldnt have. Im just curious if they are going to have an alumni tournament? Keep us updated on that Hawkeye.
I would put Belpres team of the last 10 years up against that team...
PG- Taylor Nestor G- Jordan Thornhill G- Kyle Holbert F- Pat Klein C- Nick Morey
off the bench is Brandon Burnfield and I would have to say Pfalzgraf just because of his height...no one on that team would be able to stop Nick Morey.

Up against the 07-08 VC squad? Id take that bet. And yes, Morey would be stopped.
I guarantee Morey would not be stopped. He is the best player that I've seen play in the TVC. If he was on a team that didn't have Klien, he could've scored 25-30 ppg. But I guess we will never know that though. He did not play to his full ability because he didn't have to. He toyed around with the TVC players. A man amongst boys. Did Bethel or Guthrie ever record a Quadruple Double? Much less, Two Quadruple Doubles. Ask Ironton and Alexander folks about that. I'm not taking anything away from Bethel or Guthrie, they were two very, very good players. It's just when you talk about good players in the TVC, there is Nick Morey and TheN everyone else.
Nick just got done playing for St. Mary's Univ. in San Antonio, TX. He led his team in pts and rebs, along with other various statistics. First team all league, 1st team all region in a tough D2 conference. He is going either play overseas or trying out for the NBDL. I guess he has some connections with someone affiliated with the NBDL.

Fair enough, but he can be slowed down enough. Keep one thing in mind, I will win more often than not with 7 to 9 players that know each other well and complement each other on the court than a team with a couple of superstars. I highly doubt he made a habit of toying with other players and teams. That is a receipe for a loss.
So you're telling me that you could take the LA Lakers and win against a team with Dwyane Wade, Lebron James, and Dwight Howard on it....i dont think so.
And i dont know if you were trying to spell receipt or recipe...either way its wrong
No one in the TVC could stop Nick Morey but himself, he is the most dominant player to ever come through the TVC. He will be playing pro ball somewhere, anyone else know anyone from the TVC that played pro ball?
