This year's Manchester team may be the most "talented" the school has ever had. For a community such as Manchester that quite frankly is known more for welfare and bars to put the team on the floor that they have this year is great for the community as it provides hope in a lot of ways for a lot of people.

As for what that talent does on the floor remains to be scene but they should win the sectional championship and district semi-final game. After that anything can happen and this team has the potential to give the community a winner that they'll remember for a long time.

Does anyone on here from Manchester remember a Shelton boy from back in the early 60s? I think he was MVP of the league they were in at that time.

Might have to go back and look in the books.
At the time I think he was living back off 8th street.
If anyone knows anything let me know.

Well I know that Manchester won the Sectional Championship in 2001 and 2003. They made it to the District Finals both years and in 2001 they lost by 3 points and 2003 they lost by 6. So Manchester has put some talent out there, but everyone just seems to think that Manchester is nothing but welfare people and bars. Some of that is true, but everyone in this community supports this school it doesn't matter if there on welfare or live in bars they love the kids here....

Well hook em horns that is a pretty pathetic statement I believe! I am sorry but a comment like that is more then just basketball to me! I don't know where you are from and frankly I don't care! Manchester is no different then any other community in Adams county or the surrounding counties! And yes you are right, there are bar's in Manchester that people from all over the county come to visit! And for welfare; you don't think that people from other town's other then Manchester have community members that are on welfare!! And when I think of Manchester I think of someone raised in Manchester named Jack Roush founder, CEO, and owner of Roush Fenway Racing or I think of Wayne Frye a Purple Heart recipient, Naval Academy Officer, American competition rower and Olympic champion who won a gold medal in rowing at the 1952 Summer Olympics, as a member of the American team. Or I think of the many men and women whom I know that have proudly graduated from Manchester High School that have served our Country and fought for are freedom whether it be in WWII, Vietnam, Desert Storm or Operation Iraqi Freedom, just so we can have the pleasures that we have today! Or maybe I think of Manchester as the first settlement of the Virginia Military District in 1791 and the many businesses or even Holbrook State University that used to exist in the once prosperous economy! I could continue to go on! So maybe the next time you think of Manchester you will have some other thoughts in your mind other then welfare and bar's!

May not be basketball related but here is another tidbit about Manchester. Donald Hoobler who was portrayed in the HBO series Band of Brothers was from Manchester along with 2 other Easy Company members Robert Rader and William Howell. Rader and Howell were not portrayed in the series however both were part of this elite company of the 101st airborn and both were from Manchester. Hoobler was killed in January 1945 and his remains were returned after the war and buried in the Manchester cemetary. Rader survived the war and later moved to a community in California where they thought enough of him to name a bridge after him. Not sure what became of Howell.
All 3 jumped into Normandy on D Day. Roush may get the notoriety but these 3 gave a lot more not ony for their community but their country.

Didn't know Manchester had a lot of bars. The last time I was there they just had one and it was down by the funeral home. And most of the time the area was voted dry.

I have several relation in Manchester and most of the men work on the river or are retired from there. Some even go up or down the river and work at the damms.

Manchester is a great little town-lots of nice people.

Im not sure if they are/were Manchester's best team but I believe back in 1991 they went undefeated 11-0 in league and had a record of something like 18-3. Team is probably discredited because they lost 1st game in tourny I think. I personally would put this team ahead of the 2001 and 2003 teams.

What year was it that the team had a very good record but several boys were caught playing in a church league in addition to playing varsity basketball at Manchester and they had to forfeit something like 14 wins? I know Jeff Stricklett was the coach there when that happened but he was not at fault as he had warned all his players about not playing outside of the school team during the season. However, some of them failed to listen. They were pretty good that year, too.

Stricklett had some tough luck in 1999 at Eastern Pike and then at Manchester the next year.

Hounds.....what was Manchester's record in 2003 when they went to the district finals.....losing to regional final bound Whiteoak I believe. I thought they were like 8-14 going into the district final....plaing well, but bowing out to their league rival.

Are Adams and Pike County Cousins???? Last i heard only think in manchester is the river and the power plant!
