The Burg will be better next year whether you want to admit it or not. They don't lose a player off of a team that has undoubtably overachieved this season. With Lang out and the varsity experience returning I didn't expect more than 12 or 13 wins, and they may still only get that many, but they have a chance to go 15-5 and I think that is pretty darn good for being as young as they are and playing in a very well balanced SOC II this season.

Seconfly, I think your problem is that you are just pissed that the Pirates beat Minford twice in football and twice in basketball this year. Get used to it. It will probably happen again next season as well.

LOL! and your pissed because burg didn't win the SOC in football or basketball this year and probably won't again next year. There is talent coming up all around the SOC, Minford included, you don't dominate the SOC like in the past and everyone is catching up in talent. Get use to it. I'm saying the basketball won't win more next year than this year based on what I have seen, it's called an opinion, everyone has one.

I agree your entitiled to your own opinion. Here's the thing Wheelersburg has everybody coming back in basketball including Tyler Lang who started last year and was a good shooter. Oak Hill is losing there best player Hale who's is probably averaging 20 to 25 points a game which is going to be hard to replace next year. Minford correct me if Im wrong is losing Price and I believe Smith. Valley is losing the Arbaugh kid and maybe a couple more. Wheelersburg beat Valley once and Minford twice with this young line up. Wheelersburg is probably going to finish second in the SOC with everybody coming back. Now looking at that Iwould say they have to be a favorite to win the SOC next year right behind Oak Hill just because your still the champ until your knocked off the hill.

Why would I be pissed that they didn't win the SOC in football or basketball when it was obvious that they would be young and inexperienced in both? I knew going into to this year in both sports that the Pirates would struggle and the football team way overachieved for their youth and losing their captain. I don't get pissed when the Pirates don't win the SOC. We have won enough in the past 35 years that giving one up to another school every 10 years or so doesn't bother me.

By the way, if you look at the years below you will see the Pirates have won the SOC 4 times in football in this decade and 6 times in basketball in this decade, so it seems to me they are still the dominant team in the league. How many has Minford won?

SOC Championships for the Pirates in the three major boys sports.

Baseball 53, 54, 57, 65, 66, 67, 69, 72, 74, 83, 92, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01, 08

Football 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 78, 79, 80, 81, 83, 86, 87, 88, 89, 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 03, 04, 05, 07

Boys' Basketball 49, 55, 72, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 87, 88, 90, 94, 96, 97, 99, 00, 01, 02, 04, 07, 08

Saying the burg gives up the SOC every 10 years to another school is fine with you is a slap in the face to the rest of the SOC schools. This is a false claim and just show the cocky, arrogant disrespectful mind set some of you have for the other schools. At least SW knows how to WIN a state title when it gets to the championship game.

In all fairness to Burg, I believe Coach Persin doesn't want individual acclaim. He wants TEAM all the way. Congrats to JD on a great accomplishment and I am sure the win over Burg was just as satisfying as the 1000 points.

Isn't that true. All those years at Chesapeake that they won the district and they never cut down the nets. Always said that they were waiting to cut down the nets after the regional final, which never happened.

and dominated the SOC and the county championship in basketball in the 40's and 50's. Winning the County Championship 5 times in a row. But I guess that doesn't matter.

^ In football, didn't Minford win their leauge in 2000 and in 2003? I saw W'burg has an 03 league championship but I thought Minford beat them 10-0, in 2003.

One of those who is a captain and returning starter I beleive has not played 1 minute this yr. The burg starts 3 soph's and one of their first players off the bench is a freshman. Throw in the fact that Stegman is a soph and is arguably if not the best, certainly one of the best players in the area will return for 2 more yrs. I am guesing he is going to get a little bigger, stronger and overall just a little better which is kind of scary. I am guessing most people that see how young this burg team is and how well they have played and with the experience their gaining and with barrick at the helm I am guessing most people will disagree with you and recognize that the burg shoul be a force the next few yrs.

Also throw in the fact the 7th and 8th grade boys teams are both having great seasons as well (both beat Oak Hill earlier this week by 20+ with the starters sitting most of the 4th) and the future is still looking good. I believe the 8th grade is 12-0 and the 7th is 11-1.

Most often, it boils down to coach preference on cutting down the nets. Hopefully, this will be the year Coach Persin and the Oaks can cut down the regional and state nets. Great win last night. Looks like Coach Persin has them ready for the tourney.

Minford did beat Wheelersburg in 03', but then lost to West and Wheelersburg beat West, so there were tri-champs in 03 between Wheelersburg, West, and Minford.

I would not say Hale is Oak Hill's best player,a inside force yes,but I think Ondera is there best player and a big key to this team, and he will be back next season.

Oak Hill will have Ondera, Slone, W. Hale and Brown back next year. They will be in the thick of it for the SOC again.

How well Wheelersburg may be over the next few years may depend on the number of sports each kid plays. As these kids move from freshman to senior kids drop out of sports to concentrate on one or two areas. Let's face it sports are all season long today. Some of Wheelersburg's young players will spend their off season in footbal camps or baseball leagues. Although these kids will become better athletes they may not be better basketball players. Barrick's recent final four teams had a core of kids that only played basketball (Miller, Cowgill, Salyers, Carrington) year round. Although Spradlin played football his summer was spent on one of the best AAU teams in the country.

This years's team is made up of a lot of good athletes who also excel in football and baseball. Let's hope they don't have to choose a single sport but coaches and communities only care about results which often means one sport year round.

Ondera might be the best all around player for Oak Hill but with out Hale Oak Hill doesn't win the SOC and I think people will see how big a difference it will be next year. They will be in the SOC race next year but I think it will come down to Wheelersburg and Valley when it's all said and done.

Actually IMO oak hills cheer clock was terrible... first off they had all girls, second noone in burgs cheer block could hear them befcause they sounded like a bunch of monotones. they chanted we got norm... come one, everyone knows that Barrick is one of if not the best coach for a long ways.

and that kid from burg didnt throw his hat... everyone got mad because the refs didnt see a call ( which happened all night (they were terrible)) and in the mix of things, someone knocked his hat off.

What times have caught up with the Burg? Burg comes into the season with one player (not counting Tyler because of the injury) with any varsity experince at all and with four games left in the season were playing for sole possesion of the SOC DIV II, yet everyone seems to be thinking they had a down year. Sure, a SOC championship is one of the first accomplishmnets they strive for in the season.

For them to win the amount of game they did is a huge confidence bulider to them for the upcoming season and trust me, Burg has a strong 8th grade class that will mix in well with the varsity now. Burg looks to be strong for the 4-6 years.

yes the 8th grade class is good, with massie's son Clay leading the way. also the burg has a transfer moving in (it's rumored that Andrew Bendolph is moving to the Burg) this will we a good addition to this team, his defense is outstanding

Yes i agree Crazee the pumpfake ondera gave when the student section was going to jump up was PRICELESS! Norm had a few words with him but oh well! GO OAKS!

From what I've been told, that should of been a violation, because you are not allowed to simulate the motion to shoot because it could cause lane violations. Didn't matter in the outcome of course, just thought that was interesting

it might be a violation, but i know that former arkansas razorback Larry Johnson ( not the football player lol) who lead the razor backs far into the NCAA tourney, he had a "pump-fake" type shot at the stripe. he would fake the shot then pull it back towards his head, then shoot. im just saying that i dont think it is at the college level, but im not sure about in highschool

IMO BURG will DOMINATE the SOC II in football next year... Burg only lost a few player and they have people who can step in for them. i know schank , white and hopper are big losses but they have other running back and LB's also if Bendolph moves in, he is one of the best CB's in the area...

minford you better start praying early...
