Big Poppa: You make good points about South Webster.......they started out the decade not too good, and didn't finish well......but in the middle of the 2000's they were outstanding........and could warrant a top 10 ranking........all the teams from #8 on down had comparable resumes, all having some significant accomplishments.

trojandave, it has been awhile since I have been on this site but I just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed reading your information about all of the schools especially Chillicothe. We've met in the past and we always enjoy making a trip down to Portsmouth. ( Best gym around ) I really liked your point system on here and best team of this decade.

You post your opinions by backing it up with facts. Take care and continue to write..

Go Cavs!

baller3: Thanks for the kind words.......Your Cavaliers deserve to be the top team of the decade.........they beat a number of D1 schools that year, including the D1 state champion Newark. Chillicothe has a solid history of winning teams, players, and coaches from Alexinas to Cuppett to Kellough.......of course they went through a drought from the mid 80's to the mid 2000's, but overall CHS has a proud history.

NCH D2 next two seasons? D2 is once again going to be a very tough tournament to get through! Chillicothe beat NCH the last two seasons maybe they can make it a third if they hook up somehow.

Defending D2 state champion Akron St.Vincent St.Mary is probably the team to beat this coming year.......despite losing their best player to graduation, the Irish are loaded again......I had some people at the state tournament who are not biased tell me that ASVM would be just as good the next 2 years.......some tremendous talent coming up. The 5 state titles for the Irish are tied for second all-time with Columbus East......Middletown is the leader with 7 state championships.

Of course nothing is guaranteed.........a lot of people were handing New Knoxville another D4 state title after the Rangers returned 4 starters from their 2008 state title team.......but they didn't even make it out of the district.

I would say Columbus Northland is the strongest bet to repeat as state champion in D1........Sullinger, Weatherspoon, Potts, and Burke back means that the Vikings are absolutely loaded again.

South Webster has had a consistent team with nearly a 500 season up until the past few years with their state title run. Recently they have struggled but we might see a different team this year. Still not much talent. Maybe they should recruit or change locations of key tournment games.

Oak hill has been terrible for a while I mean to the point u go the the games and the visiting teams filled their gym more than oaks fans. They have had a great run these past couple years and looks like they will have a good run this year not going to repeat last season but a good season.

The burg is going to be tough these nxt couple years. But burg is more than likely the best soc school putting out NCAA d1 players and really never having a bad season.

trojandave wrote:Although I don't have all the stats in front of me, just for fun sake I would rate these teams from 9-12:

9. Gallia Academy.......won only 2 district titles since 1970.......1973, 2003......but the Blue Devils under Jim Osborne have put together a lot of winning seasons and SEOAL titles.......and they had a strong history before Osborne took over.
10. Marietta........multiple state appearances (I believe their last was before 1945), 11 district titles, but the Tigers haven't done much at all in the last 30 years.
11. Waverly.........under Coach Hawhee, the Tigers were a consistent power, going to the state in 1970.......but since their regional final in 1980 they haven't had a long run of success.
12. Belpre........for the reasons mentioned above.......I couldn't put them any higher than this because 1 outstanding decade is not enough to merit a top 10 ranking.

The lists I have made will stir some debate I am sure, but it gets more difficult to rate teams the farther down the list you go.

if you put belpre then you have to put warren above them.
warren is always a good basketball program and never
dissapoints.

Warren has never won a district title......therefore I cannot put them above Belpre......the Golden Eagles have 3 state tournament appearances. In addition Belpre has had some good teams outside of the decade of the 90's.

The Warriors may have won more consistently than Belpre over a long period, but it's not a huge difference. Warren is a good program, but the top 12 teams I have listed have won multiple district titles and all have had at least a decade or more of sustained success.

warrior2012: My all-time rankings have Belpre rated higher than Warren. In my rankings of the 2000's, I have neither in the top 10........but I would rate Warren higher than Belpre for this decade. They have won more consistently in the 2000's than Belpre.
