I learned last year to never count the Trojans out!

I can't believe Portsmouth isn't getting more votes. It may be that Ironton loss holding you back. Since you play again this week, that sitution can be rectified.

All I know is that the regional final two years ago was Ironton-Peake, last year was Portsmouth-Peake, and I wouldn't be shocked to see two of those three teams in it again this year.

Thanks...and I agree....all three are formidable opponents. and It can be any of those 3 to represent the Southeast district in the Final Four. Tough to say who the favorite is, as to all 3, I feel.....could win on a neutral court. No doubt Ironton is a solid team and so is Chesapeake......and both are well coached! as well as my Trojans! But right now it looks as if your panthers have the inside track for the number 1 seed while my Trojans can make some noise towards being considered a legitimate contender if we take care of business the remainder of our schedule. Only time will tell though!

Records of Trojan teams under varsity level:

JV: 12-2
Freshmen: 5-5 (Sky Oliver and Alex Dickerson have played JV all year)
8th Grade: 7-4
7th Grade: 11-0

Total record is 35-11........the future looks like the current winning ways at PHS should continue for quite a while, even with losing 12 seniors after this season.

Make the overall record 37-11 after the 7th and 8th grade teams swept West last night. The 7th grade team is now 12-0, while the 8th grade is 8-4.

I agree TrojanDave; the future look's bright. The Trojans look to be a little young in 2012-2013 but very talented. The Trojans may take it on the chin a few times because of inexperience, but having said that;the Trojans will win their share of ball- games. In a year or two, i think; we will hear quite a lot of freshman point-guard S,Oliver; man he's going to be a nice player. After next season Portsmouth look's to be very good for several years. A-lot of nice talent still at the middle- school level too;which will be following behind already very talented freshman and sophomore players. Look's very, very promising for the future. Abra-cadabra;i see a another state championship in the future, if not this very year, 2012. Just playing around with the abra-cadabra thing, but very exciting times ahead for Trojan fans.

What a draw for the Portsmouth Trojans...

Potentially against Wheelersburg in the sectional. Portsmouth has far more talent, but you dont want to face a team coached by Barrick in the tournament.

Piketon in the District Semifinals. Portsmouth won the regular season matchup by 22 at home, but they have to go against Lisath who knows the ins and outs on all of the Trojan players.

Valley in the District Finals. 15-2 Valley who can shoot the lights out.

Chesapeake in the Regional Semifinals. Matchup of last year's finals.

Then if they make it that far, whoever is left standing for a Regional Final battle. Goodness. The 2 seed certainly "rewarded" Portsmouth.

8th Grade: 11-4
7th Grade: 13-2

GO TROJANS!!!

As far as the AP poll....its trash. Valley and Portsmouth should have BOTH at least recieved a vote or two.

Valley hasnt lost a game since Dec. 6th, 2011 (14 straight W's) a 53-50 loss to #8 Ironton, and they beat up #11 Huntington

Portsmouths record and schedule speaks for itself...

I can gaurantee you, coach Collins and his staff knows just as much about piketons kids as Lisath does the Trojans, these teams played each other several times over the summer..

Coach Collins' record vs. other prominent SE District coaches:

Tom Barrick/Wheelersburg 4-0
Ryan Davis/Chesapeake 2-0
Mark Lafon/Ironton 3-2
Gary Kellough/Chillicothe 3-3
Blaine Maddox/Warren 3-3
Jeff Lisath/Piketon 1-0

16-8 vs. those outstanding coaches.........4 of those 6 listed have led their teams to state appearances(Barrick, Davis, Kellough, Lisath)..........Coach Collins has a state appearance himself(2011)...........I think he can more than hold his own against any of those other coaches.

The Trojans have 6 consecutive wins by 16+ points since beating Warren by 3 on January 27th. That's very impressive!

Just found out today that Wayne Evans needs just 6 points for 1,000, and Dion McKinley needs only 30 to reach that milestone.......it was previously reported that Wayne had passed the 1,000 mark, but that was not correct.

That will be a great honor for these two young men. Hopefully the Trojans keep rolling so Dion gets there Shows not only ability but also sustainability. You have to score night in and night out. Scouting reports have these young men at the top each night. Most importantly, they are doing ut in the framework of TEAM, and a very successful TEAM at that. We were honored in 2008 to watch Anthony Hitchens become Ross County's All time leading Boy's Scorer and Ray Chambers surpass 1,000 points during the State run. Chambers actually got his 1,000 during the State final game.

Trojandave, How many former Trojans have surpassed the 1,000 point mark?

Makes you wonder as a Valley fan what might happen if the Trojans are in a tight game for the first time in a while.

Was that your thought, too?
With most teams I'd be inclined to say yes, but with as many seniors as the Trojans have, I think they'll be able to execute in a tight game down the stretch. But, as a Valley fan I certainly wouldn't mind it a bit if they didn't 8)

Hitchbone64: I don't know the exact number of Trojans who have scored 1,000 or more points, but I do know that Craig Tubbs is the all-time leading scorer in Trojan history with 1,485 points........Jeff Lisath has over 1,200. I am virtually sure that Larry Hisle from 1963-1965 accomplished at least 1,000 points, because he averaged 25.5 in just his senior year of 1965. Mike Lovenguth from 1970-1972 was most likely over 1,000 points. Patrick Tubbs from 1986-1988 led the Trojans 3 straight years in scoring, and based on the number of games he played during that time (77), he scored over 1,000 or was very close to that figure. Kyle Taylor from 1982-1984 was probably very close also. Mike Haley from 1959-1961 was a top scorer for PHS, but before 1961 I am not sure about his scoring history.
