Too many people are counting out Waterford and their big men, very impressive play in 2009-2010 from them and they have matured another year.

Don't know anything about South Gallia but one thing they better be prepared for is aggressive play in the TVC Hocking.

My favorite, FH, has alot of young talent, starting one Senior I believe. They are lay it on the line kind of kids, a different personality than the 2009-10 team. They are capable of playing hard nosed basketball every night out and have a never give up attitude that should serve them well.

Just ask the JV boys from Alexander last year what happened in Stewart last February against these guys. A whooping they would soon want to forget.

Go Lancers! Play hard! Don't let anyone get inside your head because you are a young team!

Yes do not count Waterford out, they will be a good team this year. Do not count out the road trip to South Gallia that is long travel for some teams to sit on a bus.

TVC-Hocking
1. Trimble-Has the potential TVC POY in MR. Gutrie.
2. Eastern- Has the best coach in Southeast Ohio. Never count them out of thee running.
3. Waterford-I look for them to build on last year and contend for the championship.
4. Southern- Not a ton of talent down in Racine but great coaching to put them to .500 or better in the TVC.
5. Federal Hocking- Giant in the midddle. Sean Parsons doesnt miss if hes left open. Might get to .500 in the TVC.
6. Belpre- Always has something to work with.
7. Wahama- Don't know a lot about this team. First year in the TVC will more than likely be a tough one for the Falcons.
8. South Gallia- Once again don't know a lot about them. I have heard that they have been struggeling.
9. Miller- Not much to look forward to over in Hemlock this year.

Its should be very interesting to see how this season plays out.

this is my only arguement, why is howie caldwell considered to be this great coach ? he one a tvc title after numerous years of being in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. he runs the same drills at every practice, and the same offense's and defense's, he makes no adjustments and yet everyone considers him to be the best ... granted his kids try hard and play hard but in my opinion southern, waterford, and trimble's coaches are the best hands down

I disagree. Waterford's coach has done nothing. They won TVC with a D-1 player in D.J. Cunningham, and a loaded team all around him.
Howie has never really had the most talent in the TVC and always gets the max out of each of his players. He has had some great tournement runs also. Howie is a great coach.

Just for the sake of argument here, I'm going to disagree with Poncho. Coach Simms did do something. He kept that head case on the court for three years. Anyone whoever saw that kid play knew that he was high maintenance, and was always one temper tantrum from getting tossed out of a game.

Your comment about Howie not having the most talent in the TVC. I don't buy that one either. He had Dill, Cozart, Simpson, and Cross, on one team, and couldn't win the league. I will agree with the statement that the vast majority of the time, he get's the maximum out of his players, however, with that group, he didn't get the maximum out of them in the regular season. Seems like they turned it on and had some nice post-season success with those trips to "the barn" at the fairgrounds in Columbus.

Steely I agree one hundred percent to what you are saying, anybody who knows Tom Simms knows he runs a program on respect and integrity. He went so far last year and reached out to Coach Close after the "Southern-Waterford girls debacle" and was a voice of reason. I respect Coach Simms a great deal as a Coach, as for Howie .... everybody has their mind warped that this guy is the greatest of the greatest, and anybody who is everybody knows he gets the max out of his players. Curt Moore only saw him once but I liked what I saw as for Jeff Caldwell you want to talk about winning with less talent ? Nobody has done it better than this guy he deserves all the credit in SE Ohio for what he has done!

I have a great deal of respect for Coach Simms, I know what he started with and where he's taken that program. I do know one thing, his first priority is the kids, and it shows in how he runs his program. Tom is a super nice man, and I wish him the best of luck every year.

And your comment about Jeff Caldwell, I agree. Another man who took over a program that was very down, and you can see what he's done in what, three years? That is impressive.

Best of luck to all the kids and coaches this year, TVC Hocking basketball ought to be interesting, to say the least... :122245

I think the Hocking will be wide open. I wouldn't be surprised who won it, I think there are more teams that have a shot then any year I can remember. With sixteen league games it makes it even tougher to win the league, if any of the teams let down a little their going to get beat.

Hardwook I totally agree with your opinion about the TVC Hocking being wide open. This will make the league exciting for everyone....players, coaches and fans. The program that works the hardest, stays the most focused, executes every time they step on the floor and want it the most.........will stand at the top come February. Mindset is going to be key down the stretch............Who will have that mental toughness to hang in there through a long season?

Route for your home town team! Fed Hock gets my nod and I believe they have the mental toughness to progress through a nice season.

Well if it comes down to mindset and mental toughness count Trimble out. They lost that somewhere in the late 90's. I look for my Lancers, Belpre, Eastern, and Southern, to fight it out. Wahama will be a contender as well, but I think they will learn quickly that as bad as league it is in football, basketball is quite another story.

I disagree that Trimble lacks mental toughness and mindset. Many of those boys beat Fed and Belpre pretty handily their freshman year. I think Eastern will be one of the tomcats hardest games.

Easterns problem is going to be in the post. Baum plays pretty tough down there but he doesn't have the height to battle night in and night out.

King of Kings- I am as big of a lancer fan as anyone, but to say that Trimble doesn't have mental toughness is just crazy. Glouster is definetly one of the toughest places to play (for more than one reason ;-) ) in the hocking division, and after seeing this team play a lot over the years I would definitley say that they are one of the gritiest teams in the TVC. Trimble and Eastern are similar in the fact that if you don't match their intensity, which is quite high, you will probably have a hard time winning. This could be said for many teams, but in my experiences I find that year in year out Trimble and Eastern both lay it on the line.

After tonights preview, what are your opinions on how good the conference will be this year?

Wow...interesting evening. Meigs looked decent but Trimble is still gelling with new varsity players...Nelsonville looked rough against Miller - surprising. Warren looked decent over Eastern. Belpre could be a sleeper team, but had a short bench. Didn't see the rest of the games. Previews are previews...it is early.

Anyone see the Southern/Athens game? I know they're previews, but just wondering.

My opinion of early frontrunners for the TVC Hocking, Eastern and Southern.

Sleepers, Trimble and Belpre.

If the basketball players on the Wahama football team can make a quick transition to basketball, they may make more noise than some folks think.
