Congrats to the Falcons on the win. Great crowd, very big effort from both teams.

I think there were more people at last year's Minford @ SW game than there were at tonight's game
Where were the seats? I had to stand by the stairs

Just the second deck. I'm not saying it wasn't a great crowd at all. Pretty filled. But there were single seats here and there throughout the second deck. I had one to both sides of myself and the person who came with me.

Again, not saying it wasn't a packed house because it was, but I assume it wasn't burg/SW 2006.

Couldn’t agree more. Maybe even more than that. There will never be another SE Ohio team better than the 06 SW team.
The 06 team had elite players and coaches and might be the single best team to ever come from SEO.
I agree with all of those statements being from Oak Hill myself. Honestly, that 2009 Oak Hill team wasn’t even Persin’s best team, as he had quite a few Chesapeake teams that just couldn’t get over the hump.

2006 might have been one of the best if not the best seasons for SOC Basketball in general.

For DIV, SW (SOC2) won the State Championship and Eastern Pike (SOC1) was in the Sweet 16.

For DIII, Wheelersburg (SOC2) made the Final Four and lost to Cleveland VSJ and Minford (SOC2) made it to the round of 32.

Then, you look at those lineups and jeez, Burg and SW were loaded to the gills:

Burg:
Jenkins
Cowgill
Spradlin
Miller
Salyers

SW:
Waginger
Lower
McClintick
Aldridge
DeCamp

I’d arguably put either of those teams up against any team in SE Ohio history and give them the nod that they’d win.

Waginger and Jenkins (SW and Burg) might be the 2 best defensive guards in SE Ohio history.

2006 was a special year in the entire southeast area basketball wise. I doubt we will ever see that again just based on the mix of next level players and supporting casts to go with them. Both went 7-8 deep like most teams but they all did certain things very well. Had some pretty good coaching staffs as well.

Burg: (Barrick)
-S Cowgill -N Carrington -C Miller -D Spradlin
-D Cook -M Jenkins -G Salyers

SW: (Kreischer)
-J Lower -R Fenton -N Aldridge -R McClintic
-J Campbell -N Bowman -E DeCamp -B Waginger

——-

As for the topic at hand. Both Minford and SW will make deep tourny runs. These two teams are VERY good and have very good coaching staffs as well. Minford has the strong 1-2 punch at the top with Kayser/Montgomery and SW has multiple guys capable of stepping up if Roberts has an off night in the scoring column.

I feel like SW could be more consistent and less likely for a down game in the tournament because of this. They’ve shown they can still win games when anyone in their rotation is out or in foul trouble. Shupert stepping up last night was much needed and SW will need him to turn it on at the right time just like he did a year ago. As for Minford, if their top two stay out of foul trouble they can make some history. It was good to see Shoemaker knock some shots down and some of the other guys make some critical buckets last night.

Two good, very fun teams to watch. Hopefully they can both make some history this year. Anyone who has watched the kids on both sides since they were younger knew this kind of success was possible. A lot of talent in the Kentucky Trail pipeline!

Don’t forget Coach Fenton and Josh Campbell. They led the jeeps back to regionals the next season and lost to Africentric in the barn I believe. Campbell would’ve been a thousand point scorer if he was on any other team all those years.

SW06’s full court press and tenacity was the best there’s ever been and hasn’t been seen since. The year before they were robbed by an illegal Africentric team in the regionals, of course the year before that, Holgate took the air out of the ball at the Schott and eventually went on to win the state championship.

SW has some phenomenal talent coming up in 8th grade and some great players in JV right now. The run isn’t over after this year.

Waginger is the best defensive player I’ve ever seen play in high school

That picture of Brig swiping OJ Mayos pockets is iconic for the SouthEast.

it’s kinda nice to log on and see mainly positive stuff after 2 good teams played. Minford a good club if they can’t get a district title this year idk what to say. SW should get district in d7

both teams look like they have real shot at winning the region in their division

And yeh 06 was a generational year. In a 30 mile radius you had this many d1 players

Aldridge - Western Carolina / Cincinnati
Waginger - Western Carolina
Miller - Western Carolina / Marshall
Spradlin - Elon
Gagai - WV / NKU
Thoroughman - WVU

and tbh Cowgill was near d1 talent but think he had grade issues that dude could ball

absolutely insane amt of talent

Nick played his best ball at Appalachia.

Also many of those players went to Rio and Cedarville

Hope to see the Jeeps have some really good next few years with all the talent coming up.

Great high school game and atmosphere last night! Thought both teams played well, but Minford just a hair better this year than the Jeeps.

Kayser is so lengthy and quick off the floor that even when he misses, he's right back grabbing his own rebound and scoring before you even realize what happened. Montgomery was his usual self and hit clutch shots when needed. Shupert dropping 21 makes me feel a lot better about the Jeeps' chances deep in the tourney. Still fully expect both of these teams to be representing SEOhio at the State Final 4 in both their divisions.

As for the 2006 SW team discussion, even though in D4, that team's dominance was just on another level. Remember they put up like 72 pts at halftime against Leesburg Fairfield in the Sectional Final. Then beat a solid Whiteoak team by around 40pts in the District Final. There have been some other great teams in this area who didn't win State, but that SW team was special. Likewise, that 2005 Ironton team was special as well...they just had the misfortune of running into North College Hill with OJ Mayo and Bill Walker. Same thing for the 2007 Burg team, and it was North College Hill again.*

This. And the kids looked confused down the stretch on offense. SW had 3 timeouts and never called them to get the team straight in critical times. Oddly ER was out of the game for a minute or two when it was tight. I'd like to see more of McClintic. He is very athletic. SW needs to find some shooters for when teams double ER and go zone.

74-35 loss to Minford. OK, the first half was competitive -- changed dramatically three minutes into the third quarter. And by the way, I think North Adams is a good team.

You know your friends in Orange and Black have beaten those groups every year right? I know that's tough for Webster to stomach but it is facts. But I'm not one to be obsessed with the Pirates. The Jeeps will be successful in D7 or probably D6 if they get moved up but I don't see them winning the league. No shame in that just reality
