hat off to valley. their defensive pressure kept burg from running any set offense. tight man-to-man showed how weak and short handed burg is for ball handlers. burgs front court and bench were bad. only one back court player showed up for the burg as he does each night. youth and inexperience really showed up in the burgs play. nice win for the indians. worth the price of admission. good atmosphere for high school basketball.

The SOC is much more competitive than I thought it would be this year.........Oak Hill, Minford, Wheelersburg, Waverly, and Valley are all good teams.........it should be some interesting basketball down the stretch to see who wins the SOC II title...........

Looks like I was right, Shut down the one man show and you can beat the burg. Stegman only had 14 points so it looks like Valley knew what to do.

Yeah he only scored 14 points...that leaves 29 other points that the others scored...and yet since you shut him down valley won by a single point....give the one man show thing a rest

I would like to congratulate Coach Villanger and his Indians on the win last night against the Pirates. Valley made the plays when they had the chance to make them and Burg did not.

Valley did a very nice job by forcing someone other than Shank to handle the ball. We need to have someone step up in that situation. I, like many others do not understand the urgency Burg players were playing with with an 8 point lead. I KNOW the coaching staff was constantly reminding the players of tempo and working for a good shot. Why force quick, unecessary shots? Inexperience. Why continue to make bad passes? Defensive pressure and inexperience. I think Valley's experience, down the stretch was the difference in the game. Once again, congrats to Valley on winning the game.

Either you're being coy or naive or just plain can't read well for a teacher (or 3rd grader). There are NUMEROUS indications on here that Valley won including the outright score of the game.

Here is one example that you apparently couldn't decipher:

So Wheelersburg lost??

Fabergrad62 replied:
Yes, 44-43 on a shot at the buzzer

My suspicion is however, that you just felt the need to say AGAIN (in large, bold type) that Wheelersburg lost just in case somebody missed it the 1st 36 times.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste...and I don't know if envy is a good thing or a bad thing. :?

Obviously, you can't read because my post beneath that tells the "rest of the story"...

TrojanBuff wrote:Sounds like good coaching by the Valley staff. Down 8 in the fourth quarter and still win. That's what you call adjustments.

Yes, and I said:

I do believe that to be the case.

I told coop during the final minute that I bet Barrick felt like Apollo Creed's corner in Rocky 2 when they went out for the final round. They kept yelling at him to stay away from Rocky because he already had the fight won on points, but he wanted the knock-out. I'm sure coach Barrick wanted his kids to be much more patient and "stay away" from them down the stretch.

I think the biggest compliment to both teams is the way that both teams were able to battle playing each other's game. Burg dictated the overall tempo of the game, but Valley was also able to assert its style at different segments of the game...each time they did, the Burg kids responded. To me, that is the sign of two very solid basketball teams who are going to be a tough out for anybody in the tournament.

Memorable quotes for
Rocky II :

[to Apollo, about a rematch with Rocky]
Duke: He's all wrong for us, baby. I saw you beat that man like I never saw no man get beat before, and the man kept coming after you. Now we don't need no man like that in our lives.

[Paulie and Adrian screams in happiness; Mickey yells]
Bill Baldwin: He made it at the last second! Rocky Balboa has shocked the world! He is the new heavyweight champion of the world!
