vikes let me start by saying i do not disagree with you. but, look what you are saying. did it hurt vc's subs playing a determined team in a no-lose game? i would think maybe the coach would see that as a way for those kids to get better. they played well. they held their own. who got hurt? no one who was at the game had any thoughts vc won or could have won by lots. if the situation was reversed i hope meigs would pull their big guns and let the future stars play just like vinton. i for 1 have nothing but respect for vinton. i hope i have made that clear. they played like champs and their fans should respect that. at the same time meigs should gain your respect for not laying down.those boys had every reason to quit in the 1st quarter down 20. yet even when everyone knew vc was going to win, as you say, with 4 minutes to play, they where still battling. alot of high school teams would have quit. meigs did not. you have to respect that kind of heart. it is alot more than i gave them credit for earlier this year. whether they had it all along or the coach has brought it out, does not matter. it has always been said that sports reflects a community, well if i was in a tough spot i would want someone who never quits beside me. IF THAT IS WHAT EWING IS TEACHING THEM, THEN HE IS DOING 1 HECK OF A JOB. that is being a man.

NO ONE IS BLAMING THE KIDS!!!!! The problem is the coaching staff and their "bush league" approach. If you want to "coach" (and I use the term VERY loosley) press the entire game. Fromwhat I saw it went like this...
1st-3rd Q
Meigs coach "play hard do your best" (NO press)
4th Q Meigs coach " yessssss the starters are out!!! Starting 5 get back in there and press the heck out of them. We can get this one within 15 and make me look good against a team I have no reason to be within 25 points of. Im a coaching genius"
So in short the kids played their hearts out were just up against better players and coaching staff. Too bad their coach has no ethics.

did the starting 5 play the 4th quarter? where you at the game? my son played almost the whole 4th quarter. believe me he is not a starter. neither is cory or gabe or austin. so put that gripe away. meigs plays everybody every game. what do you want them to do, find uni's for the jv's and throw them out there? you won, can't you be happy with that? your team is spoiling you. live here and go through 2-3 1-2 win seasons then complain when you only win by 12 and the jv's play most of the game!
I have never heard of the "rule" that a team that is getting beat to pull their starters?? If I was a coach, I wouldn't press VC's varsity with Meigs' varsity!! I would like to think that anyone with any knowledge of basketball wouldn't do that. If you are winning a game, and decide to put in your JV team, you should expect to lose some of the lead, but why get upset because a coach tried to win or make the game close? If it was the other way around, you would want your coach to do the same!!

It is completely unnecessary for attention seekers from other counties to come on this thread and continue their negativity about an unrelated game. The Vinton County/Meigs game I attended last week was easily won by the better team. However, the fourth quarter of that game that I witnessed in its entirety had a mix of subs and starters played by both teams. At the end of the game Meigs had played its whole bench as did Vinton. To imply that Meigs had its starting team in at the end is simply untrue.
Meigs is starting two sophmores and one junior who played football and will continue to improve their shooting and dribbling as the season progresses. They will continue to benefit from as much play time as possible.
It is ridiculous to see some self-righteous attitudes attacking a Meigs program that this been down. Where is the sportsmanship in berating the losing coach for not assisting in a blow out? Most of us were taught to display a little humility if we won.
I applaud Coach Ewing for trying to instill a "play hard" and "never quit" with his team. I encourage and challenge all Meigs fans to support their team by cheering, attending, and supporting our student athletes (some of whom read your comments). This Meigs team can be competitive with Federal Hocking if they control the ball better and continue to play hard. Good luck Marauders!
