This Waverly team has underachieved all year. They have too much talent to have the record that they do at the end of the season. I know several people from Tiger country that are not at all happy with the present situation.

If we only had a point guard I think our season turns out differently. Oh well it is what it is, I am sure Coach Robertson will get the kids in the gym this off season and work ball handling.

Good luck to all SOC teams in the tournament.

72Xcurl...are you suggesting that if---for example---Williamson (last year's PG) had been a senior this year, the Tigers might have been 14-6 instead of 6-14?

Love to hear your thoughts...

I love it! That has been the excuse all season, even to the point of changing the starting line-up after about 5 games. Big difference it made. The guys who are playing this season are the same ones who came in off the bench last season and did a wonderful job. FIND ANOTHER EXCUSE!

Great win for the Oaks! Any road win in the SOC this year is great. Hopefully, the Oaks can put together another big tournament run. Waverly and Oak Hill are allot alike this season. I don't think either team has played anywhere near their potential. YET!

GO OAKS!

P.S. - Up a little late are'nt ya Blue Devils? :-D

The facts are what they are. Ask anyone who saw Waverly play, our lack of a legitimate ball handler was the main reason we struggled game in and game out. I am in no way bashing any of the kids on this years team. I bleed orange and black.

sirwalterscott-
Yes I personally believe that if we had the williamson kid this year we would have contended for the SOC title no question about it. IMO we turned the ball over way to many times. What are your thoughts?

72x...

No doubt the team turned the ball over way too much---stats will confirm that.

But, I would also argue that we changed our offensive and defensive philosophy quite a bit from last year. (which with a new HC is to be expected) but...as you stated:
"the facts are what they are"

Last year we went something like 16-5 and tied Burg for SOC II...and all the while...we were "famous" for running the offense through Walls in low post, playing in-your-face aggressive man2man defense, and rebounding.
And...last year we DIDN'T TRY to out-shoot anyone!
People on this forum last year kept crying---they have no outside shooting!?! And we laughed all the way to a league title playing "our game"

My thoughts you ask?
Too much soft zone defense and too little patience on offense...IMO may have cost us 3-4 games in league play.

sirwalterscott with wise words. We had no outside shooting last year and turned it over many times but still managed to win the league.

People can blame the point guard, whoever he is, all they want - that is NOT the problem. Most of the turnovers are not coming from the point. Williamson's sub came in games last year and did a wonderful job with good quality minutes, contributing to the success of the team. You have to ask what changed from last year to this.

Yes we lost a very good point guard in Williamson but we also lost DO IT ALL 1,000 point scorer, Justin Hilton and Roy Conley. Hilton was the leader of the Tigers last season and is missed more than anyone.

Hilton was the key to winning the league last year. Taking advantage of a rather banged-up Wheelersburg squad last year, the rest of the team played well enough to keep them in the game but it was Hilton's play in the last 2-3 minutes that was the real difference maker. Waverly lost a ton when they lost him. A really good team needs that person who can step up in clutch with the confidence to make that difference in the close games.

Waverly is also trying to get used to a new system but I may be in the minority but I really did not expect Waverly to contend for the title this year without someone stepping once more. Could they have done better-yes-but I don't know about 'should' have done better. There were times that they showed promise but it so far has not come to fruitition. Maybe it will in the tournament.

Good luck to both the Tigers and the Oaks in the coming weeks!

Tremedously high expectations this year because of last season. But like has been said, too much lost and a huge change in the system.
Even at that if we hit 50% of our FT's we win most of those 2 and 3 point games. If we had won those buzzer beaters and OT games would we be having this discussion?

Tournament trail begins Wednesday for the Tigers. Most of the seniors were highly upset after this loss to Oak Hill. If this team does not pull together it will be a short tournament. If they can someone pull it together the orange & black Tigers could make some noise. It's up to the coaches to pull em together.

If Waverly plays like they are capable of in the tourney, then they can make a run. It just depends which team shows up.

no excuses

tigers total perimeter people have not played well, not just the point guard. they all have made bad passes and taken bad shots and made poor decisions. some games they would play great, some they would not, too much inconsistency period. none of the perimeter people handle the ball very well, especially the left hand. as far as changing the system from last year to this yr. coach SED. used coach robertsons plays so the plays are not any different. they have had 1 or 2 guys consistent all season and you cant win in this league with all the inconsistencies. i hope they put it all together for a great tourney run but i dont see it happening, too inconsistent, period. GO TIGERS !!!
