Die,
Please go ask any Varsity coach if he cares if the JV team
wins............ANy that I know will tell you how important it
is to win a JV game...............
I dont care what level it is........Keep the mindset that to the
kids that are playing...AT ANY LEVEL.... it is the most important
game of the night to them....

Larry, i agree with you but i really dont see the varsity coaches caring much about jvs anymore like you say. i guess if i seen that competiveness at the jv level i would be more interested but i dont see it anymore and i have been attending games for years. But you are right about the mindset but i belive this is one of the biggest problems nowadays is that coaches are more worried about wins annd losses at the varsity level and forget about teaching or coaching the upcoming kids. I guess this is the reason i really dont care anymore, nice chatting wirh you and good luck in the future.

Isn't that a contradiction? Of course schools care about the performance of their JV teams - those players will be on the Varsity team next year [or even already are now]! The experience they get playing, the skills and habits they develop NOW, just their knowledge of the game gained on the JV team are very important to their successful transition to the Varsity team.
In most cases, I think, long-term winning Varsity programs at any school, in any sport, absolutely start with the foundation laid down and developed at the Jr High, Freshman, and JV level. Believe me, JV players, coaches, and schools in general DO TRY AND DO CARE VERY MUCH about winning JV games. Those JV players represent the future for your Varsity team!

I always try to make the JV game because.......I want to see who can help us for next year, and as a fan I feel I should support them also......
But for a JV coach it can be a difficult challenge, because a few players starting out JV are promoted to varsity during the course of the season, and some of the better freshmen are brought up to the JV. So it's rare that an entire JV season is made up of original JV players. The chemistry of a JV team can change drastically in just a few games.
At Portsmouth, freshman Andrew Bendolph and sophomore Forrest Johnson have been starting on the varsity. The 2 best players of their respective classes have not played on the JV at all.
JV and freshmen basketball are very important, for without good development at that level the varsity program is sure to suffer, unless you have a situation like Portsmouth's where the bulk of your varsity roster will be back for next season, while Bendolph and Johnson will be back beyond that.

JV is just as important as Varsity!! By no means is it less important or boring. The players may not be as aggressive or experienced, but they are the Varsity's future. As JV season goes on we hope that the players become experienced, aggressive, and fundamentally better. This is where they learn. I think coach Aaron Smith has done a wonderful job with our JV team here at PHS. I wouldn't say that Portsmouth does not care about their JV team.

Congratulations to the Warriors on a convincing win over the Trojans. They simply did everything better than Portsmouth......and the game was not really as close as the final score.
Portsmouth has been plagued by inconsistent play all season......the Trojans played their best game of the year Tuesday at Ironton, then tonight looked like a completely different team.
Nate Cadogen missed the game for the Trojans......he was attending a football awards banquet in Columbus. His absence hurt Portsmouth, but still Warren would have won even if we had him.
Still, I am encouraged by what I saw from this team in 20 games......we are much improved from last season, and I saw a higher skill level. Yes, we have things to work on, but these Trojans have given us hope for next season.
But this season is not over yet.......get ready for Tuesday, Trojans, and please show your good side. In the postseason, it takes consistently good basketball to advance. We are capable, no doubt.......we need 1 win to post our best win total in 6 years.
Warren has a good basketball team and should do well in the tournament.

if we play defense tuesday like we did "or did not" tonight we wil be one and done.
we had 9 total team fouls in the entire game...NO DEFENSE!
I agree we are much much improved from last year.

Congrats to Warren on the win.
Sure did not look like the Trojan team that was in Ironton on Tuesday night.
Hopefully just like the Tigers, you got that one bad game out of the way before the tourney starts.
Good to see Biggdowgg, Tobias and Trojandave. Also thanks Tobias for the bracelets for your AD.
Good luck to the Trojans on Tuesday in the tourney.

Wow! Our Trojans did not look like the team that played at Ironton on Tuesday! We got beat on the boards, hustle, everything. The Trojans just weren't into the game at all. You could just tell by looking at them. No excitment, no one wanted to step up and get the team pumped up. Definitly a very different atmosphere than Tuesday.
Well guess you can't dwell on a loss, it's TOURNAMENT time and the records are back to 0-0. Let's see what we can do in Tournaments.
