then how do you think that the "best player" should be chosen? if its not based on stats or who wins the league, then how?

The best player is the best player, period. Stats certainly don't say who is the best player, but all of the candidates will naturally have some good stats. Some teams don't share the ball, and, in my opinion, that builds stats, but doesn't make the player a player of the year. Sure, the best player will have good stats, but part of being good is making everybody else on the floor good, too, and that happens in many, many more ways than throwing an assist now and then. Coaches who pick these players know and they can see who the best players are. Also, part of it is half the game, defense, and handling the ball through a press, which often doesn't have stats. Is there a stat for help side D? A stat for cutting your guy off and not letting anyone around you? For deflecting passes out of bounds? Seeing what is about to happen and getting there before everyone else to prevent it? Nope. If you just go by points and rebounds and steals, its misleading. Part of it, but not all of it. But, the POY will have enough of those anyway. So, the best player doesn't have to come from the team that wins or be the player with the best stats. Usually, it does happen b/c there is a reason a team wins, and it's b/c they have best player-types on it. As I said, coaches know.
Well...and generally be from Scioto County. The SOC I has been strong this year. Many, many good strong teams...and not one person on this string (other than me and I'll admit I'm from SV) has mentioned an SV player, even though their players, as a team, won more games and beat these other boys at least once. Us folks down on the southern end of our conference are used to getting shut out by Scioto County coaches. But when we see how hard these boys have played and how they have gotten the results at the end of the day, it seems obvious that they're doing something right...yet, once again they aren't even part of the conversation. Forget winning anything, we are realists down here and understand that...but to at least be part of the conversation would be nice.

western is the same way, by being in pike county. we were in the running right until the last few games, but hardly anything ever gets said about our kids.

Maybe it's up to you guys/gals to do the "saying" about your kids. Schools/people generally tend to brag up their own, so maybe it is up to you...

in my opinion stats dont tell the whole story
if a player scores 30 or 40 points against a team thats terrible it adds to their ppg avg does that mean they are better than another player that sits most of the time against a bad team because the coach doesnt play him since the game is out of hand
every team has a mvp for that team but that doesnt mean they are poy quality
another factor i would consider is how the rest of the team responds to him a true poy not only plays the part but also makes everyone on his team better as well

Jacob Johnson from Symmes Valley in SOC I. I've seen all the teams play and there isn't another player who plays as hard as Jacob Johnson. He gave everything he had in every game all season, he never gave up. He also plays the game on the floor. He doesn't say a word to the officials, to other players. He is not a whiner or a dirty player. He just works hard and gets it done. I have enjoyed watching him play all season. He stands out above all the rest.

i feel that i DO "brag up my own" with that said, i cant make other people from WHS get on here and help me out. but like i said in my post, the indians were in the top 3 until their last game and hardly ANYONE said anything about them. you know as well as i do that SV, Eastern, and Western get A LOT less press on here than the scioto county teams. its like there fans are in a little clique and they dont want anyone who is better than they are talked about.

There is a lot more to the game to be considered (ballhandling, assists, defending, Basketball IQ, shooting inside and outside, making your teammates better when you are one the court, leading, rebounding and posting up). Those are player of the year things.
Sounds like Drew Spradlin to me.

WOW!!!!!
I see you lasting long on here.
Evidently he must of schooled you in the game you played against him, so therefore you feel the need to come on an internet blog site to put him down, rather than face to face.
