But if ask those players if it matters I think the opinion would be different. If it isn't there is your problem. I remember playing. Every game mattered. There seems to be a lack of enthusiasm at the games. How many dunks have we had this year and no one even stands up. Just clap their hands or play on their cell phones.
I think our previous success has almost been a detriment to the spirit of the fans especially the student cheer block.
The season does matter. But the most important time of the season is tournament time. They don't give you a trophy for going 20-0. They do for each round of the state tournament. If you are 20-0 and loss the first game of the tourney what does the undefeated season do for you? I would rather go 0-20 and win the state title than go 20-0 and lose in the first game of the tournament.
The other way to look at it is the season preparing you for a long tournament run. You could go 0-20 but if you play tough competition that prepares you for the tournament than you could use that experience to propel you to a deep run in the tourney.
And playing like the season doesn't matter doesn't prepare you for the tournament either. You have to play with the goal of getting better every game and making a deep run when it counts. When the tournament starts, every one is 0-0. The season W/L record is meaningless.
So you have totally misunderstood my point.
