Congratulations to the Pirates on the victory. Minford's 2 week hiatus clearly showed tonight with the horrible shooting. Smith just did not find it tonight although I think Price was the leading scorer. Im not quite sure. I also liked how the refs let them play tonight, it was one of the quickest games ive seen in awhile. Good luck and good health to both teams the rest of the season.
Evan Price was the leading scorer with 15 points. He was the only one in double figures for Minford. Contrary to the Times, Sean Smith had 7 points.
The Times also had it wrong about when Cole Miller scored a three in the second quarter. "When Cole Mliller drained a three mid-way through the second quarter, Minford was up 13-11." Cole Miller hit his three as the last basket of the second quarter making it 21-15. When Minford was up 13-11, Zaide Whitley hit a jumper and was fouled and put in the bonus free throw for the old-fashioned 3-point play and the Pirate lead. It was a key turning point of the game.
I saw the game. I felt the minford kids played hard. When you shoot 29% your not going to win a lot of games. I did not feel that the minford players had bad shot selection. They opened the game by missing 4 point blank lay ups. That is as good of a shot as you can get. As for the substitution pattern can some one explain to me what the correct pattern should be? I saw 9 out of the 11 players on the floor for the falcons all contributing positive min. I would be courious to see if other schools in the conference use as many players as the falcons have.
what are you talking about the refs let them play .WB d was in minfords face all night. minford played slow did not fight through picks . and the sub situation i just dont understand it. and the burgs student section was great.. if minfords students were to do that at home games the AD and PRINC . and dont forget the ASSit. PRINC. would escort them out of the gym . good luck to both teams..
How players practice may have to do with the subsitution pattern, but based on the many games that I have seen
1. other than price, oesch and mcknight are the two quickest and most atheletic players but they never play at the same time 2. wb is very quick and very atheletic. but we had a couple of players clearly not capable of staying with them in the game for long periods.
As to shot selection, Burg also missed several bunny shots early on as both teams looked tight and jacked up. What I refer two is players taking open three pointers who from what I have seen are shooting less than 10 per cent from the arc. a good shot for one player is not a good shot for all players. Also, Minford seems to try a lot of degree of difficulty drives down the lane. Contrast that to Burg and I think you will find that good three point shooters shoot threes not everyone and degree of difficulty attempts are highly discourage
It is unquestioned that minford plays hard. I think they are well coached but from the cheap seats the above appears obvious to those who have eyes to see.
thats what i see somtimes you have got to put atheletic kids on the floor . as far as subs looks like to me if you are a 1 thats all you play is the 1 . i am sure some could play 1,2 or the 3,4.. the burg took advantage of this to many miss matches.. your right the burg just blew right by some players.

I heard some talk in the gym last night that the boy that dressed up as a chicken/falcon is going to be suspended for 3 days and the ones that brought the bell into the gym will be suspended as well. I personally think this is ridiculous if it is indeed true. Just exactly who or what did they hurt by dressing up as a chicken or by bringing the bell into the gym after all the shennagins that went on with the bell over football season? I think the administration is going a little overboard as these were just harmless pranks to me.
I noticed the cheer block was very quiet in the Gallia game on Saturday even though there was a packed section there at that end of the gym. Maybe because they were afraid they would get suspended if they cheered the wrong way.

falconater I agree some of the players shot selection needs cleaned up. But throughout the course of the game I don't think many of minfords players were shooting very well. I think the falcons need more production out of their 5. Against bigger post players he doesn't seem to do well. Brisker seemed to have a number of looks under the basket and couldn't convert. I agree how the players practice is how they should be placed in the game and that is something the players and staff would know. I feel if we could combine a couple of the players talent we would have some really good bench play. All in all I feel Minford has won the games they were supposed to and a couple they were not. As seen on previous posts not many people thought they would win over 10 games. I to feel the coaching staff does a good job but they need to finish the season on a positive note for the seniors. I hear this is the coaching staffs last year together due to family commitments and I would love to see them finish on a positive note. Go Falcons!
I think it would be a very sad situation if any of the kids are punished for supporting their schools. I think it is great to see the things they can come up with to add to the fun of the games. We should be thankful these kids are using their time and energy on being part of the games and not out drinking or doing drugs. It is all good clean fun and I for one think they are all a bunch of smart kids to come up with the things they do. Let'm alone.
I heard the bell scratched the gym floor when they moved it out. I don't feel it was a good place to have it right under the basket in case players fell into it and got hurt.
Minford players looked dead and unmotivated. They moved slow and didn't seem to have any will power to win. I have been hearing also this is the last year for the staff the last two years. I hope it is. Minford needs someone that has a passion to build a program by looking at the bottom up. Building up the future players and showing an interest for wanting to stick around for years to come and develop players in the lower grades. I hope they all go. I don't see any improvements the last 4 years.
2. The Bell needed moved. You shouldn't punish students for school spirit.
3. The staff has improved the high school in the l;ast 4 years.
4. Any new coach has to be interested in a program and building from the ground up. It is always encvouraging to see a coach make at least a cameo at a pee wee game or junior high game.
That was my first game of the season to watch and I thought it was a pretty good game. Good Luck to both teams the rest of the season.
None of the boys, including the young man in the chicken suit got suspended, they just got talked to. The floor had a little mark on it, but was make when the bell was exiting, not by any students. The bell had to be moved due to it being a hazard right under the basket, which is very understandable. The cheer block rocked, and they were having a blast, what HS is all about!
You call- 10-10, 10-10, 10-10, no SOC championships the last 4 years improvement? They have a very good possibility of going 10-10 again this year. They are 10-6 and they got Oaks, NW, Valley and Rock Hill left. First game in the Tournament is PHS. Enlighten me on these inprovements?
