Green Bobcats
Re: Green Bobcats
You misunderstood me I said Hopper helped kill the program.
I have watched Green games since the mid 70's when I was in school
and went years with out missing a game. watched all of Coach
Hughes years watch Rase's two years and watched most of Lewis
years only missed then because of work. I went to school with Kevin Lewis.
I feel that Blankenship isn't the answer for Green's program.

Flash, I apologize for the misunderstanding. I read as if you were accusing coach blankenship of having apart of killing the program. I know coach blankenship and his cousin jason very well. I was just taking up for him. Your probably right he isn't the answer for the program. I'm just saying that I feel like he was deserving of an opportunity to prove himself.

Re: Green Bobcats
Due to all the circumstances there are concerning Green right now with their basketball program, schools and facitities I think that Joe Fraley is the best answer for the basketball program right now.He doesn't need a job, he lives within walking distance of the school. He is young, eager, energetic knows the game and will work at getting himself more knowledgable and making the basketball team better. He will play the ones that should play and will have discipline.Until there are jobs to offer coaches and the facilities improve and the coaches are left alone to do their job there will be no one apply that will do a better job. Its up to the board to do what is best and hire who is the best and let him coach and bring his team along.JMHO,If I am wrong you can also give your opinion of who should be hired and why.

Re: Green Bobcats
I would like to see Lewis back. This group has talent but no concept of team and lack of discipline. I think most coaches would struggle with this group of parents and kids. The few games I have watched and what I have read and heard Greens problems are much deeper than a coach. How did Hopper kill the program? Put a coach in there, support him, tell parents unless the coach has physically hurt your kid don't come around complaining. Go to a game a listen to certain parents and certain board members and you will hear what is killing the program.

Bobby Blanton was hired. Vote was 3-2, Lewis, Carver, Collett yes, Salyers and Sparks no.
Only other applicant I heard was Fraley. I personally think he should have got the job, I think the players played hard for him.

UNBELIEVABLE CHOICE,BUT NOT AT ALL SHOCKING.I BELIEVE FRALEY REALLY CAME OUT ON TOP OF THIS SITUATION WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE AT GREEN RIGHT NOW
Re: Green Bobcats
I heard that the former jv coach applied and didn't even get an interview. Anyone heard anything about this?

Re: Green Bobcats
kinda off topic but whats a typical pay for coaching boys varsity in the SOC ?
How about girls sports --how much would a girls coach get for BB or softball ? MD

Re: Green Bobcats
10-15% of the base pay usually. So if the base pay is $25,000 then supplemental could range from $2,500 to $3,000.

Re: Green Bobcats
It will be someone from his family, if my guess is right. his hiring was brought by that. And by a board menber who wants to control the coach. The board hired a guy who has coach 1-game(and loss it) and turn down a coach with over 450 wins! REAL SMART!
Re: Green Bobcats
thanks to the three board members for
just finished killing the Basketball program at
Green and people wonder why kids leaves Green
for others schools because some people don't
care about the program as long as it helps their kid or family that is
all they care about.

I agree Flash. Bobby was a below average Jr High coach, now he's handed the keys to the program. Its sad to think this was done to increase one players playing time but I think it was.

For the first time in my life I have to agree with I.I.A. The 3 Stooges have completely killed the program that was on life support to begin with. It won't get any better until the board members son graduates. I like Bobby but his next step should have been as a JV coach, not Varsity. Fraley was our best choice after Hughes was ignored. The Cat's will now be everyones Homecoming game.

Re: Green Bobcats
Its been 5 days and I still can't believe this! Maybe coach will have an Iphone on the bench so he can get text messages from someones Daddy up in the stands, making sure the right moves are made. Or maybe just look up and use hand signals.

Re: Green Bobcats
Its hard to believe that anything like that would happen at Green. In the same year one coach quit due to trying to make positive changes in the program which meant stepping on toes of the basketball gods of Green and now the other coach is not hired because he would have played the best kids that deserved to play and then the board member turns around and hires his yes man with no experience. It all makes good sence to me.How could that happen at Green.
