But seriously Wayne will be a sophomore, I wouldn't be surprised if he cracked the varsity lineup next year...with that being said guard play at the burg will be sick. I hate it cause I was hoping he'd return home to Portsmouth. He'd start for Portsmouth in my opinion. With Bendolph and Horne gone. So to get a varsity quality player in the program and he may not even sniff the floor tells you the kind of season Wheelersburg may be looking at. But honestly I really like this kid. I think he's special. Let's just wait and see.
WOW.....I hate to hear that he left Ironton, he's one heck of a basketball player. He was part of a great Freshmen class followed by one of the best 8th grade classes Ironton has seen in a long long time. All I can say is good luck at Wheelersburg.
Can we get Stegman in a trade or something
when did he transfer to burg?

Are you 100% sure that every kid that played varsity or JV at Piketon had been at the school from kidnergarten on? It would be very hard to find any school in the state that can make that claim. Without transfers there would be no state titles at South Webster and Oak Hill. I don't think anyone can deny that.

I agree. This is actually the rule, however enforcment is another story.
Open enrollment is not as easy as it was, at least by the rules. If open enroll into another district after the about the first week of your home school year start when you are a freshman, you have established your eligibilty. To then transfer after this date and participate on an athletic squad in the new district you must sit out a year (365 days). There is no superintendant sign off anymore to allow immediate
eligibility. The sure way of being able to play though is to move into the district
and not risk losing eligibility.

A couple of kids moved in back in elementry school second and third grade. I think you can honestly call them Piketon kids.lol Not too many parents moving their kids because someones 4th grade team is going to be loaded.

Burg will be met with plenty of resistance within the S O C 2 those three years mentioned.

Oak Hill(building a program under Norm)
Northwest(This year, I feel they are going to challenge burg with that senior class and young players coming back with experience, Leslie, Crabtree, Frantz, etc)
Minford(Shoemaker and company are going to turn the corner, with those strong junior high classes coming through as well as a solid jv squad)
Waverly(Always Athletic)
As for next year, with the exception of Bendolph, guard play between NW and Burg is pretty competitive and I believe the Leslie and Stegeman matchup is an equal.

I think most teams lost quite a bit and Wheelersburg has gained quite a bit. Everybody is talking about Bendolph but the player for Wheelersburg is going to be Lang this year. I don't see any team really matching up well with Wheelersburg. Their shooting is going to improve because it couldn't get any worse than it did last year and the only one I see matching up with Stegman is Leslie. Hopefully with Lang coming back and others players improving their shot teams won't be able to pack a zone in and defend the paint. I think its going to come down to Wheelersburg, Valley, and Oak Hill this year.

Re: Wheelersburg Basketball 2009-2010
I think that when you try to matchup with Burg this season, they will see a lot of different Zone looks. You may have to pick your poison, you have to try to make up for the size that Stegeman provides. I think Northwest may be the only team in the league that can matchup man to man with their experienced team and guard play. The only hope is if you play zone, rebound the ball, and try to get out there and contest the pirate shooters as much as you can. Barrick will probably have his guards penetrating the gaps and trying to dump it down inside to their bigs whether it been Stegeman, Ward, or Andy Sloan.
Re: Wheelersburg Basketball 2009-2010
I have taken in some summer league games and the team that has amazed me most is Valley. People dont realize it yet but they are tall . They will surprise some teams next season.

Re: Wheelersburg Basketball 2009-2010
I dont think anybody in tha SOC will be able to play Wheelersburg man to man. They have a lot of speed and can attack the basket very well. If you look at last year the best team in the SOC and the best team in Division 4 oak hill couldn't play man to man. Along with the guard speed Stegman is very difficult to guard man to man.
