Who is the best shooter ever played for your High School?
Re: Who is the best shooter ever played for your High School?
I forgot to add Eric Lynch for Belpre. Graduated in 2008. Very streaky, but could really knock'em down. I think he had around 7 or 8 three pt FGs in a game. Also, if I'm not mistaken, he had around 50 or 60 three pt FG in a season. I'm sure he is still dialing them up at Muskingum College during intramurals.

Maybe the tape has been remastered and is now on DVD

Kaltenbach hit 10 threes in one game and only took 13 shots. B. Roberts numbers would have been crazy if he would have had the three point line for fours instead of one.

Yep, I'll have to agree with Mark Swain from "old" Hannan Trace. I believe he graduated in 1975 if I'm not mistaken, well before the 3 point line but he could shoot. Also, Kent Wolfe (1982) from Southern could nail shots from anywhere and is still listed in the State basketball program for points and free throws in the State tournament. For my high school (Wahama) I would have to say Rick Barnitz (1980) was the best pure shooter they've had that I'm aware of.

I agree with you Mark Swain, Kent Wolfe and Rick Barnitz, but talking about some svac players you can't leave Greg James from North Gallia out.

Has anybody heard of Steve Holbrook from Ches. Was he a good shooter?
Re: Who is the best shooter ever played for your High School?
Although I didn't go to Eastern Brown I always thought that the Beuchler (sp?) boy from a few years ago was one of the best pure shooters I had ever seen at the high school level.
Re: Who is the best shooter ever played for your High School?
Both RJ and Brett were great shooters for Eastern Brown.

If you're going to include Greg James (He was more or less a power forward in high school and did most of his damage underneath) you have to include 2 big guys from the SVAC who had some huge battles between themselves, Arthur Clark (North Gallia) and Dennis Eichinger (Eastern). Howie Caldwell was one of the guards for Eastern at that time. It didn't matter who's gym they played in, those games for a couple of years were classics and very well attended with raucous fans whether it be a league game or tournament game.

Chris Petro(Hannan Trace), Jeff Caldwell and Keith Burdette(North Gallia) could also play the game. They all went on to play for Marietta college!!
Re: Who is the best shooter ever played for your High School?
At Huntington (WV) Vinson, where I graduated in 1966, it was Bill Thomas('66), the best HS clutch shooter I ever saw. in the championship against Mullens, he was very ill with the flu, but managed to summon enough energy to score the tying, go-ahead, & winning points.
But he'd done that all year, not just in the tourney. And Gary Norris, the recently-retired South Point hoops coach, was a significant contributor in this game also, although he also was ill and sore from the hammerings he'd taken in recent games.
As I remember, peake was a force in those days also. Anyone have any stuff about '60s Peake hoopsters?

Flash mentined Scarberry, hands down the best shooter from Green. Where are the boys from the Burg? They had some of the best shooters I've ever seen.
Joe Rase
Brian Bays
Todd Staker
Brad Walke
Jonathon Eaton
Drew Spradlin
Andrew Burleson
I'm not a Burgite but I saw these guys light it up at the convo, except Rase, I think they where still playing with peach baskets back then.

denny thompson, phil miller and john shoemaker from the waverly tigers. 1970 - 1971 - 1974.
Re: Who is the best shooter ever played for your High School?
In the late 70's or early 80's Chuck McKnight from Coal Grove scored a high point game and it was before the 3 point line was around. If anyone know the total points he scored please post the information.

A couple more for Wheelersburg that haven't been mentioned were Craig Brown and Scott Gray. Both could shoot the eyes out when they were hot, which was most every night.
I'd say though that in my almost 40 years of watching Burg basketball the best pure shooters I ever saw were Joe Rase, Todd Staker, Brad Walke, and Seth Cowgill.
