Chesapeake will likely dominate the OVC this season. I saw them over the summer and they have a good mix of size, quickness, and shooters. Very solid ball club.

mcavena will be the only returner with experience to speak of.

rv will have little size but should have some decent quickness to put on the floor this year.

How did the Raiders do last year?

So. . . I haven't paid attention to OVC basketball for years, but could it look something like this?

1. Chesapeake

2. Fairland

3. South Point

4. Coal Grove

5. Rock Hill

6. River Valley

Copley was listed at 6'3 by somebody earlier. It's more like 6'1. I dont think Saunders is 6'3 either. Probably 6'1 or 6'2 stretching it. Thats still impressive to have possibly 4 players on the floor at once over 6 feet that have the talent they do. (I was including the transfer and McMaster) I also heard a rumor that McMaster dunked one with two hands this weekend in a fall league game. If thats true, thats pretty impressive also for a kid just coming into his sophomore year. Put some more muscle and weight on him and they should be solid this year and next!

ovc fan: I listed Copley at 6'3" as I thought that he was! If it is an error then I wasn't off by more than an inch. He has a great vertical jump ability. Saunders has been listed as 6'2" and 6'3" (by others) prior to my posting. Goodness, if this is all that you seem to take from my posting then you are missing the big picture.

Not at all Manxious. Just some of the listings exaggerate a little. But you are right. Copley can jump thats for sure. My guess is you will have 3 kids that can dunk the ball by the time season gets here. Thats unheard of at the Peake. They have had a few in the past but I dont think ever 3. I may be wrong about that too.

ovc fan, on the dunking thing in the early 2000's the peake teams had possibly 5 guys on each team that could dunk!

Zeb Best(2000-2001)
Abe Huff(2000-2001
Josh Waugh(2000-2001)
Anthony Delempo(1999-2001)
Aaron Gosset(2001-2003)
Matt Ruckers(2001-2003)
Brad Fulton(2001-2003)
Adam Webb(2000-2001)
Adam Skeens(2002-2003)
T.R. Hannan(2003)
Brennan Hall (2004-2005)
Brent Ransbottom(2005-2006)
Justin Porter(2005-2006)
Tyler Shoemaker(2005-2007)

So its not that weird that peake players will be dunking in will just be the first time in the Coach Davis era beaides Shoemaker!!

This may be a little off but most these guys could throw down pretty good!!!

don't sell the Raiders short on Round Ball
They will be small fast and play defense,Last year few gave them a chance to finish above last place. In the last couple weeks of the season they were contending for the title. Coach Stout will find a way to get these guys ready and they will play fast paced.
They prob won't be great but will win a few games and will most prob upset a few teams.

I've always heard that it's very hard to win in that old RV gym.
I'm assuming they'll be playing in the new gym this year, right?

Yea, I hope River Valley takes their heating system with them! Wow, the heat in the gym gave River Valley an eight point advantage from the "get go" !

I see the OVC race going this way.....

1 Chesapeake: Great coaching, size, speed, maturity, unselfish play, and great defense. wow!
2 South Point: A new coach and his big hurdle will be to run a disciplined program.
3 Fairland: They lost waaaay too much talent!
4 Coal Grove: (Coaching could take CG to third)
5 Rock Hill: (If you take the big kid out of the picture I'd have RV at 5th). What a shame, RH has one of the largest school system's in Lawrence County and they can't compete any better than this. Hope the new coach turns the program around.
6 River Valley: Bless their hearts. They are a small school and will continue to struggle this year. My advice is..... turn the heat up in the gym!

Pointers will be competitive but will be without 4 who would have have been starters in the beginning of the season. Two are ineligible and and two were injured in football. That will hurt. Got a new coach who brought his son along so we will just have to see what the future holds for the Pointers. Peake should be gthe favorite though.

I dont remember the heat at River Valley. I remember how dark it is in there though. I dont know how they could see to shoot. Kept the threes down though I guess since you couldnt see the rim well from outside 10 feet. Haha. They should be a quick team this year though. And I recall the upset(s) of Fairland they had last year. Great for those kids!

Well it is time for all the OVC teams to get out the basketballs with the exception of the Grove.
The Grove will be at least a week behind. But with basketball they are behind anyway! (since they are a football school  ) Peake will not lose an OVC game Pointers will be in the middle in front of the Hill, Grove and River Valley.
