It is obvious that you do not understand the purpose of the Preview for Wheelersburg. The Preview is not about winning some "glorified scrimmage' that does not count. If history held true, Burg, never got out of its base man or zone offense. I would also venture to say that various combinations were playing together.

No transfer from NW is playing!

burgtown2008 wrote:There doesn't seem to be as good of following for BB as there is for football on this site from the BURG. i have seen several people ask about the Burg scrimmages and have yet see anyone respond. Maybe no one goes to the scrimmages or don't care to discuss there views. That's ok there are plenty of people on here to talk about there kids. BB is second rate at the Burg.

IMO, the reason you do not see as many people posting about BB so early is because many have not seen Burg play yet. Burg has a good following but most fans do not come out early in the season for many teams simply because of the time of year it is right now. Most people do not comment on scrimmage because they are just that, a scrimmage. Coaches are working on combinations and specific areas they feel they need to see their team improve on early in the season. With the success the Burg cagers have had over the years in regular season and tournament runs, I wouldnt call it second rate. The expectations for ALL sports is set high by the coaches, players and community.

Defense, rebounding and free throw shooting will determine the winner of this game. Look for Peake to try to push the tempo of the game and the Pirates to try to control the tempo of the game. Peake will hope to move the ball around for open perimeter shots and Burg will try to establish the inside out game. The team that establishes what it wants to do on offense will win this game. I am glad basketball season is finally here.

Bendolph will be ready to go on Saturday..he played in the scrimmages..just not in previews..makes complete sense. Schank on the other hand I believe is waiting to hear from doctors on the extent of his schoulder injury..the word on friday was he was out for the season b/c he is going to have surgery, then the second rumor going around was he is getting a second opinion from another doctor..who knows? I would say he is out for awhile even if he didn't have surgery.....but luckily Bendolph will pick up the slack in the guard position..seems a lot of people on this discussion ar under-estimating the burg. They have looked really tight in the scrimmages and very well pre-pared and the chemistry is looking good..but chesapeake will be a good contest..they did win last year! We will see..but we have a much more mature stegman and the guard position is much more stable and more importantly..the shooting from outside seems more consistent...we will see.

alabamamike: I agree people haven't seen burg yet.....but Burg2008 obviously hasn't been to a game in awhile! They fill the stands at the Burg..and the opening song with the cheerblock yelling and the crowd into it is ELECTRIFYING! Have no idea what that guy was talking about???

It should be a close race in the SOC this year with Burg, Oak Hill, and Valley all poised to make a run for the title. Burg should be a VERY slight favorite if they get their gaurds back. :aaaaa27

The Peake will be too strong for the Burg this season.

Being this early, I look for this to test each teams attitude. It's hard to put together 4 quarters of good BB, when your still settling into a system, and finding your leaders and what not. You can play in 20 scrimmages up to this point, and still come out to that first tip off unsure in your playmakers. Both of these teams have talent, and tons of potential. But it will come down to execution, and attitude. (If something goes wrong, how are the teams going to re-act). If Burg lays back, and allows Copley to get hot... it'll be lights out in a hurry. But on the other hand, if Chesapeake's D can't slow down Stegman.. Things will get interesting. I haven't seen the Kennedy kid play(transfer from Rose Hill) but I hear good things. This should be a good battle down low.
ok- enough rambling! my prediction: I believe Chesapeake takes round 1, Burg playing without a couple essential players, hurts. I wanna see these two teams playing at full throttle later on in the year. Do they meet again?

alabama mike: Don't know the whole roster, but the starting 5 should be:

Colin Kennedy 6-7
Austin McMasters 6-4
Trent Saunders 6-1
Nathan Copley 6-1
Peter Hintz 5-8

The Panthers should have an outstanding season......they now have some good size which will give them good balance offensively.......they won't have to live off perimeter shots like they did last year.

Thanks Dave! I was just wanting names and numbers so I can put them in the scorebook. I like having things ready to go so I dont have to be rushed between games and make a mistake.

I am so pumped for this game. I believe both these teams are very similar in stature...Burg has been plagued by injuries lately as we all know, but they play with heart and desire..they will play you until the end. I am looking foward to seeing the hype about peake come true..I feel this season is packed with great talent all over southern ohio..I think people are forgetting that Burg did look past chesapeake last year and got it handed to them at the Burg...Barrick won't let that happen again! Again, this game should be wonderful to watch with a lot of energy coming from both teams!

I will take Chesapeake by 20 points unless the coach decides to back off some. This team is full throttle all the time. I doubt Wheelersburg will be in the game after two quarters. Just my opinion.

When Chesapeake played symmes valley the starters were:

Copley
Lindsey
Hintz
Saunders
McMasters

Kennedy came off the bench, It seems he needs some time to adjust to the intensity that coach davis expects

What skill does the kennedy boy have, and how does he measure up with stegman? This is really a question for those who have seen both play!

Just read where Ches. had Symmes Valley by 50 points in their foundation game. That doesn't look good for the Burg who struggled against SV in the previews.

The Peake will not beat the BURG by 50. Should beat them but it will be much closer!

No way this game is a blowout. I have seen bot big men, different games IMO. The Kennedy kid is more of a face up to the basket player. He likes to shot 15 footers and 3's. I did not see a lot of him in the post and he isn't a force on the boards. He is very athletic though and can run.

Wheelersburg will have success if Chesapeake tries to press them. The press coach Davis runs is my biggest problem with him. I am used to 40 minutes of hell in your face man-to-man press of Persin. The press he runs gets broken a lot and has lost us games. Chesapeake is not a great defensive team in my opinion. There are not a lot of really good athletes on this team. Copely is a very good basketball player but not a great athlete. Hintz will get in your face and is quick on defense, but very small and will loose his man. If Wheelersburg can put pressure on Hintz he will turn it over. He is not a great ball handler and will force things. Saunders is pretty good on the boards and plays hard, but not a great offensive player. McMasters will be the key IMO. He is very athletic and is a match up nightmare. He is still a little weak so he can be pushed around, but he is a good athlete.

This will be an interesting game.

I don't think it will be a 50 point game, I just stated that if Ches. was up on SV by 50 the must be pretty good. Previews don't show coaching skills but the do show that matched up player for player SV and Burg were about even. Burg didn't play Bendolph. It should be a close game.
