Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
Wheelersburg is currently ranked 3rd in Southeastern/Southern Ohio. Waverly comes in at number 7. Should be a good game.
Seems many times over the last several years when Burg comes to Waverly this game has been played on a Tuesday night. I'm not sure why this has happened but it sure is nice to see this game on a Friday night.
Last year Stegman owned Waverly. I think he had 10 or 12 blocked shots in one of the games. On the offensive end he looked nearly unstoppable. Waverly has their work cut out for them and will need to play their best game so far this season.
Good Luck Tigers : )

Waverly needs to hound stegman just like they did utley and copley. Need to keep the "O" rolling like it is. I'll take Waverly in a close one. Waverly 52 - Wheelersburg 48

Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
As much as it pains me to say this, after seeing the results of the Burgs first 4 games I think Waverly wins this game with ease. The Pirates have no one other than Bendolph that can handle the ball, have no solid shooters, and if Stegman gets in foul trouble they are done since they have no one on the bench that can replace him. No offense against Diduit, but he is in no way shape or form as good a ballplayer as Stegman and they really lose a lot when he replaces Andy.

Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
I think it is bad news for Waverly that Wheelersburg lost to Portsmouth last night. I would rather play them when they are not coming off a loss. However, I hope the young Tigers consider themselves the underdog just like they have been for two of the three games this year (Possibly all three games) and come out and play hard.
Sweeping the games (Valley and Chesapeak) last weekend was huge for Waverly- but those wins don't make a season just as the loss to Logan Elm didn't either. Waverly needs to remember if they want to continue to get better you have to defend your home court. No matter how poorly people say Burg is playing- they will bring thier "A" game to Waverly Friday night and coach Robertson and company know this so it will take an "A" game from the Tigers and an "A+" game from the fans to get a big win for the home team.
I hope the student body continues to show up and get rowdy at the games and lets hope the gym is packed with Tiger fans!
Good luck Tigers!!!!!!

[quote="falconater"]Waverly has the best point guard in the league
I think Ondera and Bendolph would have something to say about that.

You know Burg will come ready to play, but I think Waverly will win by 10, Burg just has not started clicking as a team yet, but they better soon..
Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
I have been hearing a lot of talk about Waverly's point guard. A couple of questions about him.
What grade is he in?
Did he play JV last year, I have never heard of him?

He is an exchange student from Australia I believe. He is pretty good, and the longer he plays the better Waverly will get as the gel together.
Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
I have seen Chesapeake play both Wheelersburg and Waverly. I will take waverly by 12!

Waverly guard, Sammy Johnston, is indeed an exchange student from Austraila. Seems to be a good kid, he gets along with the other players well. And I agree the more they play together the better the "gel" will hold.

Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
I have only seen Waverly in the game against Logan Elm but the most important thing i see from Sammy that Waverly was lacking last season is a leader on the floor. He corrects his teammates in a positive way when they screw up and directs traffic on the court. He is a natural leader and his ability to lead this team has been a tremendous help to the tigers. I saw that someone else had posted that Sammy was the best point guard in the SOC and some dispute that. He may not score the most points or dish out the most assists but i have to believe he is the most valuable to his team. Waverly has scorers but he brings it all together with the intangibles (leadership, court awareness, the intensity he brings to the defensive end). He plays quick and plays smart and that rolls over to the rest of the team.
Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
I have to agree with Bucki on this one. Waverly is clearly the underdog and Wheelersburg does indeed bring their "A" game to Waverly. You don't have to go back in farther than last year. I think everyone thought it would be a competitive game. Burg comes out and shots 70 or 80 percent in the first half and we struggled to get "into" our offense. The game was never close.
Waverly will need to play exceptional ball to be there come the 4th quarter.

Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
Looking foward to this game. Should be close with a lot strength on the court from both sides. I am wondering if Burg can bounce back after a dissapointing loss on tuesday night. Seems they are having some "chemistry" problems and trouble putting the ball in the bucket from the outside. Also, I am looking foward to watching the "little guys" from waverly. Are they ball boys or what..because they are cute as heck and actually know what is going on. I saw one of them with his dad at the Burg vs. Ptwon game scouting!

Why don't you look at the Northwest scoring this year..... 75, 50(with the 4'th quarter collapse), and 82 with Leslie gettin 20-25 each of these games, So how exactly is that Leslie being the team?....maybe you should look up some facts before you make these judgements.
I'll take Burg in a low scoring game 49-45

Re: Waverly vs. Wheelersburg
The "little guys" from Waverly consist of two sons of the head coach and one son of an assistant coach and another son of another assistant coach. They do have a great grasp on the game for being so young and they are cute and they put on a good show at the half.
