Didn't see any at the Green/Eastern game last night. The crew looked dazed and confused all night which in turn confused the kids playing. I'm not saying that either team had an advantage or it affected the outcome. It didn't.
This is the first time in my life that I saw an official Tee up a coach then take it back. That confused the other team and a long conversation ensued. Then one of Greens assistants got Tee'd up (Ironically, he himself is an official) then the refs couldn't decide if the head coach had to sit the rest of the game or not. Another time a foul was called and the official ran to half court, turned to the crowd and started to signal who the foul was on, stopped for a second then turned around trying to find the scorers table. Inconsistent calls on both teams all night.

Officiating is not easy.......I've done it myself quite a bit........and working the North End Reunion in Portsmouth during the summer is a very interesting officiating experience......overall, I think officials do a good job.......sure, I complain about calls from time to time, but games are still won or lost for the most part by the players on the court.

I happen to know Hootie Wend very well and he is a fine official. I can honestly say that he loves what he does. Weather it be Football, Basketball, or Baseball.

Hootie doesn't get near enough credit or praise for what he does for our community and our school district.

If any of you know Hootie make sure you pat him on the back and buy him a Mountan Dew the next time you see him!!!!

This is an interesting subject. Iwas just talking to a gentleman who used to officate himself and so have I. We were talking about how inconsistant the officials are from, sometimes quarter to quarter. That truly makes it hard for the kids to play. Yes it is atough job . Did it for 25 years and got to referee at the the state. Funny part about that was I was in the Se District but never worked a tournament game in the SE District. Really upset some people at the time. Had all kinds of votes from coaches. Tells you a little bit about the system. Also used to coach a team in the northern part of the district. We were fortunate enough to go the state one year, But I always was of the believe we had to be at least 20 points better than our opp. in order to get out of the district unless we had 3or 4 of the more respected officals of that time period. After all these years things really haven't changed. Now I go to watch games just to watch and am still amazed at what goes on.

this is a tough but rewarding thing to do. yes there are good officals out there and there are also ones who get by on the good ol boy system jus like any other click. they sure take care of one another. football is even crazier! you tell me how a guy can go from no playoff games to 4 to the state semis!!!!!!

You know I not only officiated, but coached at the varsity level too. People used to ask if I loved abuse, with a chuckle. No I just enjoyed working around the young people. I knew going in all the stuff that would be thrown at me. I get tired of hearing the complaints from guys get your license and ref. If you join the army you know what your getting into. Same goes here. If you can't take it don't do it. With that being said sometimes I can't believe how ignorant the fans are and at times how inept some of the officials are. I watched three do a nice job lastnight at Logan in the VC/Shs game. Was there just to watch not a fan of either team.

Dugan( I believe is his last name) and Seth Michael are pretty good

The best ref that we have had, we have had him up at Pickerington shootout a couple of times and he also was at Oak Hill once. Don't know his name but he is a short older gentleman. I am guessing he does a lot of central and east district games.

O&B best post on this thread. I have heard people say how great a certain crew is before games, then rip them after their team loses that game. "These guys are usually good but they blew it tonight." Common theme with some fans.

Idk the officals names that officated the East vs New Boston game at East, but it was just pitiful. Fouls wasnt getting called for either side. It looked like a football game out there. There was 2 ejections made in less then 5 minutes, One From the NB crowd and One fron the East Crowd. They favord East way to much if i was a NB fan i would have been ejected also lol But things like this need to be looked at by the OHSAA!

That crew that apparently did 20 plus games at Trimble in girls and boys combined must be pretty good for them to keep hiring them. As for umpires, Eastern usually has the same ones in softball, so they must be pretty good too. The people at Southern would probably attest to the quality of their home basketball officials with the number of foul shots the home team takes compared to the visitors.
