I think Larry would come back and coach any varsity team in the general area of his home. He loves coaching kids, and has done a pretty good job of it over the years.

IMO, he's not a long term coach regardless of where he might land. In his mind, he's gonna do things his way, not the district's way, and I don't see him being a coach that would coddle to a group of kids, much less the a district's politics.

lastrow, I don't doubt the coach from Kings Mills is a good coach, but we have a good young coach in place right now. I don't see the need for this fella at this time.

OU-C hired former Hilltopper player and Unioto prep standout Jason Smith, btw. I believe he was an assistant at Adena for a few years before taking the job -- which has as many coaches recently than the NY Yankees in the 80s and 90s.

to be successful in basketball at a "supposed football school" you have to use it to your advantage instead of fighting it. i have a friend of mine who had a lot of success at a football school (lost in finals one year, and the final four once, and the regional finals once) in football. the same time period the basketball team went to the regionals twice and the district finals once. the coach obviously got a late start with practice and was limited in the summer. he had two really good athletes who did most of the scoring and he had a couple of big linemen who were great role players rebounding, setting picks, and knocking people on their butts on defense. his last year he had a lot of talent but the egoes did not mesh and his most talented team didn't get out of the sectionals. team chemistry is vital no matter how much talent you have.

I believe our football and basketball coaches could definately work together to assist each other's teams.

sparky....at the school I teach, we have had a trip to the final 4 and then the elite 8 the very next year.....neither squad had a single football player and those same two years the football team was undefeated....not bad for a small d4 school

Out of Bounds, I was not implying that Jackson needs another coach, I was trying to find out if anyone in Jackson County remembered this guy. He said that he graduated in the 1970's from Jackson and coached there in the mid- 80's. Actually he approached me at the Miami shootout (I was there to watch Piketon play) and introduced himself and we started talking about southeastern, ohio sports, etc., and he indicated that when retires from coaching and teaching in Cincinnati, that he wanted to move back to Jackson and one day be the head coach there. I was just wondering if anyone on this board knew of him.....

I know him. I think he graduated in 1979 and helped coach during Glen Gillespie years of the mid 80's. His brother Pat is the AD at Greenfield and was one of Jackson's best baketball players. Mike brought his team here 2 years ago and his son (Matt) was quite the shooter...about as good as his unle Pat.
