last year many experts felt that taft was one of the top schools in the state regardless of size. that was a major upset last year and hopefully it happens again this year. i am not real crazy about teams loading up with aau talent and competing against true high school teams.

Just curious...can anyone tell me how many assistants Ironton has? I watched on t.v. and counted 8 or 9 but looked like there could've been more.

Those aren't "assistants" - they're the volunteer coaches at all other grade/age levels in Ironton schools. Here's a clue - developing a quality and consistently good sports program starts in grade school! And any smart coach in any sport is going to "cultivate feeder coaches" at younger grade levels to develop young players and spot promising talent. And then invite them to sit on the bench during a varsity game to recognize their contributions and efforts in providing the foundation!

I know Taft was the superior team to Ironton last night, but it seems as though Ironton let Taft dictate the flow of the game which was bad for Ironton.Defense which LaFon PRIDES himself in was nonexistent last night and got beat at a race horse game which they were out maned and gave up 80 plus..I do believe tho that playing those type teams will make you better come tournament time. What else does Ironton have to play for other than the tournament since they are an independent so they may as well play those kind of teams and get tougher.

Taft is D3 and is the preseason favorite to win the state title.
