I figure it will be Piketon and Waverly for the title, with the Streaks coming out on top. Pressure, pressure, and more pressure will be the deciding factor for the Streaks. GO STREAKS!!
Failed logic MikePike...Apples to Oranges comparison. Eastern also beat Minford who also beat Valley. Basketball is a game of matchups. If Valley is hitting their shots they can roll anyone the way they play....including Waverly by a large margin. Eastern had lost to Valley by 2 a couple weeks prior. So, which game do you use to compare...2 pt loss or 30? that is why the games are played on the court.

With that being said, Waverly is the favorite against Eastern IMHO. It is a D2 school playing a D4??? Even though they are winless this season (hard to believe), with Kretzer and Martin in the lineup the Tigers have the potential to beat anyone. I will be pulling for the Eagles to pull off a shocker! Either way...Piketon will be too much for the Tigers or Eagles in the championship.

Hoggy,
Hopefully Waverly picks up their first win at Burg tonight, well before the Classic begins. Either you don't know about the game tonight, think it will be postponed again, or are very confident the Tigers fall to the Pirates.

Jimmy,

My bad, you're right. The Streaks did win it back to back. Hoggy, I agree with your assessment. I called for a 6-12 point win b/c I see the Tigers at the free-throw line at the end of the game stretching a very close game out a bit. If they don't hit their freebies (which we've been known to do), I think the Eagles could easily hand us a loss. But, I also agree that no matter who makes it to the championship game (no disrespect to the Indians, as they, like most teams the Streaks will face, will be outgunned) will have their hands full with a very explosive Piketon team that will be looking to get that trophy back across the river. Hopefully, the Tigers can go to the Burg tonight and get a much needed W.

Didn't know about the game smurray, but going into the Burg and coming away with a victory will not be an easy task for the Tigers. No disrespect was intended to the Tigers.

Failed logic? If you say so. I was merely pointing out a fact.

I don't know who will be favored, or who will win. If I was able to be in attendance, I would pull for Waverly (can't believe I said that!) simply because I have a couple of the players in my Sunday school class.

Piketon is the favorite IMO. Waverly has some talented athletes, but will have to get through Eastern to play Piketon (which will not be an easy task for the Tigers, but they would have to be the favorite in that match-up). Western will play hard, but may not have enough fire power to find the win column.

Tonight's game will go a long way in determining what kind of Tiger team hits the floor in the Holiday tourney. This team desparately needs a win...as much as any I've seen. If we don't get one tonight, we could come in pressing the issue vs. the Eagles, and that could be very bad. If they get hot from the outside, that game could turn into a coin flip, and the Tigers haven't fared well in nail-biters. If, however, we can go into Burg and come out of there with a win, it would do wonders for our confidence. Then, after 4 dogfights on the road, we would finally hit the friendly confines of Hawhee's Palace...I think the Tigers could relax, and play the kind of ball we know in which they're capable.

Pulling for Waverly against Eastern, not to win the tourney. Streaks all the way! (sorry SS kids.)

Now that this game is out of the way, how do you think it will effect the Tigers going into the tourney? What a rough way to start the season, especially since Waverly has two of the best athletes in the entire conference. Will they come out more fired up or will this OT defeat to the Burg take a little out of the team motivation and confidence? When a team is desperate for a victory they can try to do too much and cause them to lose some team chemistry as one player may try to do a little more on his own, or they could start to have a breakdown in morale and team cohesion.

If someone would have told me at the beginning of the season, that Waverly would be win less going in to the Pike County Tourney....I would have laughed at them. They better not go in to the game against Eastern with their heads down or the Eagles will sink their Talons deep into the hearts of the mighty Tigers.

I would have to believe that the point spread for the Waverly game would have to fall in the range of Waverly by 2-5 points after what has happened recently.

Hoggy, well said, and the answer is I don't know how they'll respond. I do know that I saw a bunch of kids get after it last night and leave it all on the floor. That's really the first time I can honestly say that after a game. Our press-breaker was much better, and I thought Kelly and White did a much better job handling the ball in the half court vs. some intense ball pressure by McBee, Massie, and Shankweiller (excuse the spelling). We moved the ball MUCH better, and seemed to understand spacing within our base offense. Kretzer did an excellent job of penetrating and then dishing to Martin (outstanding game from Harrison), and he also made some big shots. Him fouling out obviously really hurt the Tigers in O.T. We all know Kretz can put the ball in the hole, but he's hitting the boards much better this year, and we missed that in the extra frame. Kudos also to Taylor Ward...double digits in points taking really good shots, and he also did an outstanding job vs. the 6'5" Stegman. If the Tigers play with that kind of focused effort, they can beat anybody. There's not many teams who could have survived that 3-point assault that the Burg put on...as good as I've seen in recent memory.
