The difference in the game was the # of threats Chilli can throw at you versus the 1 man attack that is Cunningham. Warren is a decent team without him but a very good team with him. However, even with him they didn't have enough weapons to go bucket for bucket with Chilli.

Chilli relied on their defensive pressure for the second game in a row. as soon as Austin went out of the game it was like blood in the waters and the full court pressure was ratcheted up and turnovers started piling up. Cunningham came back in the second half and played like a man possessed but it just wasn't enough.

Jalin was cold shooting again for the second game in a row (minus the 4th quarter against Portsmouth) and Malik was saddled with foul trouble picking up 3 in the first half and his 4th midway through the 3rd quarter. Enter Zach Johnson. He was the man tonight taking the ball to the basket and getting the finish or dropping it off to someone for an easy bucket. I also thought Beverly hit some big shots. Manion made some great plays to create for guys via the dribble drive and leading the cavs on the break. He had a couple outstanding outlet passes for easy buckets in transition.

Malik has got to stop playing hot potato with the basketball when he receives it in the post. Chilli is getting him the ball in decent post position, but he's either passing it off as soon as he touches it or using several pivots before putting multiple dribbles on the floor and letting the defender force him farther away from the basket. When he gets the ball on the entry pass it needs to be a simple power dribble to one side or the other, elevate, and use the glass when available. And it needs to happen quickly before the defense can reset, the help can come over, or he can think about it too much.

These Cavs are far from a finished product but the defensive intensity keeps getting better and the ability to turn it into offense does as well. I'm really encouraged by the way Manion and Johnson are stepping up into viable scoring options because Jalin got 19 on a cold night tonight, but it was these guys efforts that enabled Chilli to outscore a good Warren team.

so safe to say they lost alot from last years team? That is disappointing as this has been touted as such a tough test for the Cavs

D3, I looked up their record and they show 2-7. However, as a Prep Independent, they have played a tough schedule (including Huntington Prep tonight). They are a young team, but have talent. Won't be easy to overlook them.

For the one that said this is a small time team, this is an Academy, so their enrollment is supposed to be small. However, these kids can ball. They are still ranked in Indiana despite their record, which tells me they have faced some tough competion.

GO CAVS!!!

Thanks.

Warren won the JV game that was a dandy by the score 45 to 38. Warren was up 13 and Chilli made a nice run at the end. The Chilli press was hurting Warren in the 4th quarter but the Warriors got it together to win. One of the best JV game you would want to see. Both team really played hard and left it on the floor. It is after 1, we just got home, the roads were bad all the way. I will give my take on the varsity game later, I am tired.

Well sounds like the warriors failed the pre-test? According to my source it sounds like the Warriors failed several tests? CONGRATS TO CHILI...YOU HAVE A GOOD TEAM AND WELL-COACHED GROUP!
The only test the Cavs failed was not having proper training material or tools to stitch-up Mr.Cunningham?
How could a team start out on a 5-0 run to start the game and not score the rest of the qtr?
AGAIN....wrong non productive players in lineup and therefore getting yourself in a hole you cant get out of against a GOOD TEAM...Pretest 1- GRADE D
Not being prepared to handle this press..Pretest 2 - GRADE C-
Having 2 freshmen in this game with a non productive player at the same time? These freshmen are nowhere near ready for this level of play!!! Team strength with that lineup in 2nd qtr...Pretest 3 - F
Enough said about being outplayed and even if Cunningham would have not been missing for a while, sounds like this type of Warrior ball and rotation of subs will be lucky to get them to the Convo? Team chemistry - Pretest 4 - D
Sounds like if you need to build a team for the future and need to get them ready, you do that against the weaker 80 percent of the league, Not in these games....Sounds embarrasing
and Im glad I didnt make that journey to watch. Stick to JV at maximum.
Warrior C C player of the game goes to the weatherman for predicting the snow...only it didnt get here early enough for the Warriors to cancel the game.
So Warrior Team take this as a lesson and know how much harder you need to work to compete to be a GREAT TEAM.....you have a loooooong way to go and with the subs being played like they were in that game and the minutes that the non productive players received then sounds like you might have a tough season ahead? Im sure you will beat the lower 80 percent teams but Goodluck competing against the Big Dogs! So its only your first loss , and hope by the miserable scores on your pre-tests that you only get better and you pass your post-tests? The athletes and right players are there, its putting it all together...THATS THE MOST IMPORTANT! Could be another season where the group Alabama's song
(WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN) seems to be playing. I know when I attended school and played that you PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!
THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS FOR YOU YOUNG WARRIORS..The sun comes out tmrw! :|

The warren rotation was suspect imo. I noticed from the upper deck warren had a guard "trying" to bring the ball up the court. I counted "6" turnovers from this youngster before he was pulled from the game. Then he came back in and turned it over again and again. Maybe he was a freshman i don't know but he looked out of place and i started feeling sorry for the kid. He didn't even look like a guard, physically or skill wise. I will tell you this that the cunningham kid is the real deal. He sat out a lot of the game but so did Malik london of chillicothe due to foul trouble. nice crowd.

number 4 was a nice player too and was shooting long 3's. Overall if you stop cunningham and venham you have a great chance at beating this nice warren ballclub.

That was the largest crowd since the Logan Elm game 2 years ago....finally the Cavs faithful are rallying around this team...i will say though their cheerleaders need help..lol! Yeah that pg that 13 was talking about had NO chance at all to guard anybody on that court...Cunningham is a beast!

CC..first of all you failed your first easy test as well...little texas sang "what might have been" not alabama...CC TEST 1= F....i would love to know who you really think should be on the floor?...there was quite a few different combinations tried last night and none of them really worked without Cunningham our best ball handler bringing the ball up the floor...whats the easiest way to get a 6'9 player that takes up the whole paint out of the game so you can have some impact inside?...get him in foul trouble right?...he had 3 fouls in the first half because we took it at him and got him in trouble and ended up getting quite a few points in the paint when he was out...so in the 4th quarter when he now has 4 fouls and we just got the game back to 6 or 8 points with 3 minutes to go by attacking him and getting layups because he doesnt want to foul out we decide to start bombing contested 3s instead of working back inside and either getting easy layups or getting him his 5th foul and then we can get easy layups...i think we shot ourselves out of the game starting at about 3:33 mark in the 4th...i understand we have some boys that can really light it up but when none of them were really hitting consistently why not try to get 3 points the old fashioned way (like you know how to play CC)....i thought everyone that played lastnight contributed what they are supposed to contribute to the team..henthorn and hilvy played great "D" when they were in, windland stepped up and had some good buckets, hastie hit a couple shots, ward kinda had an off night but shot enough to make 3, Cunningham played with the most heart and passion i have seen him ever play with and venham played hard on both ends of the floor epsecially on the defensive side with the challenge of stopping imo by far their best player in ragland...all in all i thought it was a great effort considering we didnt have someone to break the press most of the time with cunningham out...just think we "bombed" ourselve out of this game..but as CC says the sun will come out tomorrow and now we play a great team sunday...keep working hard blue

Bankshot the bombs away was quite early it sounded like?
Heres my honest opinion.....Why not put your 2 best passers on the floor from the start...(Cunningham and Ward).....
Why not put your 4 best scorers on the floor from the start...(Venham.Cunningham.Hastie.Ward)....add the 5th according to size of team and skill level...
Why not stick with the bulk of these 4 throughout the game and mix in subs as when boys need a break?....
All 4 of these boys can play defense well!
Why not put Mr. Cunningham on the post to help Venham because in my opinion...this kid is prob one of the areas best post players...yes I said POST>.....He can give Venham help and also pass when in trouble...this keeps Ward and Hastie outside for what they do best and also gives Ward the chance to kick it back inside like he does extremely well!
Add the 5th player like Henthorn for physical strength to play defense....Windland for post help when Cunningham is on the point? Leffingwell to give Venham rest breaks....Hilvi to give any of the 3 GUARDS a break?
Its that simple but yet you refuse to see these 4 on the floor much at the sametime especially from the start?
If its senior appreciation to start then let Hilvi start for 2 minutes and get these 4 involved so theres some kind of chemistry....Until you see the 4 I mentioned on the floor together for quality minutes.....I dont see Warren doing anything special!
The 5th starter can be mixed with whatever is needed? But as per lastnight....the 5 starters
that were on the floor is def not capable of providing enough offense against the top 2 teams and anyone in the tournament...
It comes back down to chemistry....its time to get a good solid group as per above and try to play well together.....trying to mix these freshmen into the game is totally messing with the kids mind im sure and makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!
Mr French and Mr Patton are going to be great but there is plenty of playing time to give to Winland and Leffingwell without these 2 clogging things up! So much of a difference between JV and Varsity that its showed they are not ready...atleast when you play Chili..Portsmouth...etc.....So Bankshot...Ive waited along time to tell you what io think and Im sticking to this for the rest of the year!
Even if the Knost boy returns the 4 mentioned with a 5th mixed in would be the best result from a basketball winning standpoint! If Warren doesnt ever try this and they still keep trying to mix all this other hogwash in...then they need to join a YMCA league somewhere in OHIO....
This would make Venham the Beast he is capable of and also give Cunningham his points!
This is from a basketball GURU who is just saying what is obvious! Not trying to dictate who is the starting 5 but just saying from what Ive seen the past 2 years that its what makes the most since from the stands!
And one more movie quote from Jack Nicholson to the people of Vincent from the movie A FEW GOOD MEN..."YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH! "The sun comes out tmrw! :|

CC i regret to say it (haha) but i think i am going to have to agree with you...but however i am going to disagree about bringing a freshman in...although i think French could be a threat when he is on i think it needs to be Patton coming in a getting some good quality minutes...eventhough he is a freshman he has shown that he can really play...i think he should have the role that ellenwood played last year in that you know a big man is going to guard him so when they don't respect the 15 foot jumpshot he can hit it all night long...then when they do come out and guard him that leaves the middle wide open for venham and cunningham (i agree with him playing in the post)...leffingwell is also capable of filling this role but seems a little skidish because when he does shoot he gets pulled shortly after...i think Patton has the skill set and the mind set(confidence) to play at the varsity level...so until we can get someone that will shoot the 15 footers with confidence the defense is going to relax in the paint and make us bomb 3s all night long...hopefully we are on

So Bankshot....If you agree...and the average fan like my barbershop buddies agree with that? Wonder why the staff doesnt?
VENHAM AND CUNNINGHAM PLAYING A HI-LO POST WITH WARD AND HASTIE LURKING OUTSIDE WITH THEIR WEAPONS...NOW THATS SCARY!
IT WOULDNT MATTER WHO THE 5TH MAN WAS BECAUSE THAT WOULD ONLY MAKE IT STRONGER!

I WOULD DEF LIKE THE WARRIORS CHANCES AND THAT WOULD BE QUITE A CHEMISTRY IF YOU GET USED TO IT. THEN THE ROLE PLAYERS WOULD MAKE ALOT MORE SENSE?
HENTHORN FOR DEFENSE....LEFF OR WINDLAND FOR VENHAM IF HE NEEDS REST OR JUST ANOTHER BIGMAN TO CONTEND WITH. HILVI TO RELEIVE THE GUARDS FOR REST AND DEFENSE IF NEEDED FOR A BOOST?
WOW THAT SEEMS SO LOGICAL? EVEN THE OLDTIMER WOULD ENJOY SEEING HOW TEAMS WOULD STOP THAT?
But I dont get paid to Coach or make decisions...just like seeing a program succeed, however I do recognize a SOLID FOUNDATION FOR A DREAM SEASON and this is it....not sure why the Warriors wouldnt want to go where nobody else has gone? But I do know that if some changes arent made..its a quick EXIT! If leffingwell has to start and the senior rule has to be applied....then next year should be interesting with whos coming back as seniors and the French and Patton boy are in the mix....The senior rule might be interesting to hold up?Stay tuned!
THE SUN COMES OUT TMRW! ;-)

We need Cunningham to take the ball up the court and use his shooting threats and not play him as a post player.

BIGBLUEWARRIORFAN......just because you put Cunningham in the post..doesnt mean he cant bring the ball up the floor....Once past half court he swings it to a guard and moves to the post....with a halfcourt offense he could play post and then on some offensive sets, he could also still get an outside shot. Also I think he could be deadly driving from the freethrow line and dishing when the defense collapses on him....So I will stick to that in saying he should play the post...hes unstoppable there...very dangerous! the sun comes out tmrw! :122246
