Re: Convo?
BTW ... The D-II final will be held March 11th at 7:00 P.M.
It use to be the D-II final was the first game of the day on 'Championship Saturday' - followed by 2 D-IV games and 2 D-III games ... But somewhere down the line, not sure exactly when, but the Southeast District started producing three D-III district title winners ... which in turn forced the D-II game to be played a day earlier.
(When talking about clearing out the Convo - that does take place sometimes during the REGIONAL TOURNAMENT - but not very often do they clear it out for District games)
March 12th is a pretty fun day - 5 HUGE games - all for District titles ...
BUT, March 6th isn't to bad either ... You get to watch what is usually 4 pretty good games.
March 6th
2:00 - D-III District semi-final
3:45 - " "
5:30 - " "
7:15 - " "
* Actually, the action begins Saturday night (March 5th) starting at 7:30 P.M. with the first D-III district semi-final, followed by another District semi-final game at 9:15 ... So basically your looking at a 6-game stretch in less that 24 hours.

Your thread has been posted somewhere every year since they started having tourney games at the Convo.
Get over it, it ain't gonna happen in your lifetime...

You may be right, but it would be great for the fans of the 2 teams playing to be able to sit at floor level.rickoshay wrote:Ironman92 wrote:The Convo is great and all but they really need to pull out the bleachers to bring an even better atmosphere.

Re: Convo?
Thx Chesapeake ... you are correct - I just didn't realize they would be playing on Sunday.
About the bleachers: Arrggghhhh ... I'm so tired of talking/debating that issue ... lol ... I think they do it to (a) Cause less confusion - its complicated enough switching out some fan bases form the corners between games ... (b) Have less distactions close to the floor - its team vs team and only the hardwood to settle the outcome (well, the refs too - but they have a lot less distrcations when Joe Blow isn't screaming in their ear 5-feet away.)

Re: Convo?
The Convo is GREAT but the concessions aren't.......but a trip uptown to Jimmy John's solves that........one other place that I really like is UD Arena in Dayton.........good atmosphere, you can sit closer than at the Convo, and you also get to see 4-5 D1 district finals for 1 price, and great concessions also........only 2 dollars to park.
I like the State Fairgrounds also, and their pizza is the best at any arena........I watched the Flyin to the Hoop at Trent Arena in Kettering, and I really like that place.
The Schottenstein Center's atmosphere doesn't even come close to St.John Arena, but the state tournament makes it a must trip.
I've been to a lot of good places, but the Convo is the best to me.

Re: Convo?
... the Convo is the ONLY facility which boast "Basketball Thirty" ... Alexander HS/OU's Lou "the legend" Horvath has singlehandedly created a destination where ALL teams in Southern/Southeastern Ohio strive to get to EVERY YEAR !!! ... to hear "the legendary voice" of Southern/Southeastern Ohio basketball is the goal for every player - to have THEIR name announced at the Convo by Lou Horvath ... it just doesn't get any better than that imo ... Lou mentioned the name of "pfloyd" as he intro'd the first game of district play last season - I TOO felt honored to have Lou Horvath mention the "purple hippo one" at the Convo ... great atmosphere, great TEAMS, players, coaches, fans - ALL wanting to be at the Convo JUST ONE MORE TIME ... NO BETTER time of the year in my book - "You don't need a clock tell you what time it is here at the Convo, we'll tell you what time it is! - IT'S !!! BASKETBALL !!! THIRTY !!! ...

What did Lou say Floyd?
"If anyone has seen a ridculus, purple dancing hippo - would you please return it to the scorers table?"

Re: Convo?
Nothing like the Convo.
I like going to games at the Fairgrounds but there is no comparison.
St Johns much more enjoyable than the Schott.
I thought there had been some years when Convo was cleared between District final games for different divisions... for example maybe a DII final at 12 and then clear for DIII at 3, 5 and 7. I could be wrong though.

I guess I'll take the high road.
rickoshay.....please go to my first post on this thread and then read the post above it and then mine and then the post below it.
I have never, ever posted any type of thread about pulling the bleachers at the Convo or any basketball arena....yes, someone normally does each year at this time....but it is not me.
That's about as good as I can take it.

Re: Convo?
The old high school is tore down, has been since 2003. They didn't leave the old gym either, which was a crime. It's now a parking lot. The old old gym that is in Beaver is still there, that Ironman92 is talking about.Pol Pot wrote:I think they should move the games to the old Eastern Pike gym, really pack them in and create an awesome environment.
Re: Convo?
I did my student teaching there.....and in 8th grade basketball, while playing for Jackson we got homered there. But I promise Raiderball stayed calm.
