55-47 Waverly

Harrison and Jake played like men those last 16 minutes. Jake hit some big shots and Harrison simply couldn't be stopped. Jean Paul White stepped up and knocked down 4 huge FT's late to seal the victory.

Sad display by some fans getting thrown out near the end.

Great high school basketball game!

Keep it up Waverly!

tale of 2 halves Waverly didnt play well in the first half 13 points. 2nd half the ball goes to the paint and we score 42 points got in the double bonus early and was able to control the boards.. Ward again shuts down the top scorer believe he held the kid to 6 for the game. Waverly clawed their way back in it, and Hillsboro lost their composure getting a double technical called midway in the 4th. Myself i thought it was pretty quick whistle from jenkins, usually he does that to us. A question on that if anyone knows the answer, harrison was fouled which put us in the bonus and then 2 technicals, but harrison didnt get to shoot his 1-1 why?

crazymidgets,
The common foul on Martin was the 5th team foul, The T on theplayer was the 6th and T on the coach was the 7th and Jenkins checked that with the official scorer. So to answer your question: the reason that Martin didn't shot 1-and-1 was that foul was only the 5th team foul.

The foul on Harrison was the 5th foul then the two T's put them at 7. That's why he didn't shoot the 1-1.

Waverly gets the big win, however, they didnt have thier best game until the second half. The technical fouls really gave the tigers a big boost. It sure is nice to be on that side of the call for once!

Jake Kretzer really stepped up for Waverly, scored 25 again. Harrison Martin hit some big shots and only played a little over a half.

Devin Kelly handled the press with no turnovers and had several assists along the way. Taylor Ward played great defense and scored well again. John Paul hit big free throws down the stretch. The Tigers did go two deep in the bench as Martin and Kelly both got in foul trouble.

Coaches did a good job of keeping thier composure when things looked pretty bad. It is so neat to see this team get to the convo for the second straight year, and maybe since they didnt exactly play so great they will get hot over in Athens! If any team deserves to get some breaks and win a few when they didnt have an A game it is this group, and BTW what an incredible crowd for Waverly and great pep group! Good luck Tigers- its great to see good things happen for good kids who work hard!

Kretzer with 27 (scoring 1,000 for his career), Martin 11, Ward 10 and White with 7 (5 for 6 from the line down the stretch). Kretzer hit 3 of 4 of the T's to tie it up and hit an and one to help seal it late as well.

Kelly may not have scored but he did his job handling the ball and the pressure with no turnovers as was already said. Ward shows up and plays consistent night in and night out and usually is assigned the best offensive player. Once again he did an outstanding job on defense and also chipped in 10 important points. White is playing good smart ball and what can you say about Martin and Kretzer.

The Tigers were making a run to cut it the 3 and yes the double technical energized the Tigers and the crowd but I thought Hillsboro hung tough and their crowd responded as well. It was deafening in there. But I think the Tigers wanted it more toward the end and made the plays needed to win. That was indeed an amazing crowd from Waverly.

Enjoy this one over the weekend and come in Monday ready to work harder than you've worked all year. Let's get a District title this year!

I want to give a shout out to the Hillsboro fans. The ovation from that side of the gym when they announced Kretzer's 1,000th was nice (nothing compared to the Waverly side), but it is still nice to see that people recognize that ANYBODY scoring 1,000 points is an accomplishment.
The game: Martins two fouls really hurt Waverly in the first half. But Taylor Ward stepped up and did a nice job as people have already stated. Kelly did his job and when was whistled for his second JP and Davis handled the ball to bridge the gap. Harrison and Jake in the second half .....somebody said it "they were men!" The sound of that crowd when Jake drilled the 3 to make it 41-38 might be as loud as I have ever heard a gym. I have been coming to Waverly games since the days of Shea and Wiseman, that's a while, and I have heard some loud gyms, but that gym tonight was rockin.
We got another game to worry about Marietta or Warren Friday at the big gym.
GO TIGERS!!!!
