The scores you are seeing RV put up are far less a product of "tough defense" than they are of the offense RV is running. This was evidenced by the OVC preview.
But those were all preseason so let's hope the Raiders have a terrific season starting this Friday when Southern visits. Southern is a D4 school (RV D3) but has a good returning team and the point guard (Rosebury I think) is an excellent player. The freshman and JV games should be great games.
