There are no parking fees at Ironton....didn't help them.Tobias wrote:Maybe if you dropped your parking fees your team might make it to the state tournament...Ironman92 wrote:Yeah....it's where we always park
It's $2 in Jackson
Portsmouth has no parking fees and we have made it to the Final Four two straight seasons in basketball.
Give it a try...

Portsmouth is making its 15th state tournament appearance.........only Canton McKinley has been to the state more out of 830 high schools!!!
First back to back Final 4's in school history!!
Just bring the D that our kids displayed vs. Ironton and they can bring home our 5th state championship!!
GO TROJANS!!...........THE TROJAN COMMUNITY IS VERY PROUD OF YOU!!

i had forgotten that portsmouth was there last year. i also didn't remember africentric being d3. two of last years final four are now in different divisions, taft 2 and africentric 4. this should increase portsmouth chances. although taft didn't make it they got beat by dayton dunbar. we talk about recruiting on here all of the time, what about taft, none of their starters began their career at taft high school.

Cleveland Central Catholic moved to D2 as well. They are 1 kid over the D2 limit. Portsmouth is the only team that went to state last year in D3 that did not switch division.sparky wrote:i had forgotten that portsmouth was there last year. i also didn't remember africentric being d3. two of last years final four are now in different divisions, taft 2 and africentric 4. this should increase portsmouth chances. although taft didn't make it they got beat by dayton dunbar. we talk about recruiting on here all of the time, what about taft, none of their starters began their career at taft high school.

do teams get rings for going to the final four or only for winning a state championship?

Good luck, Trojans. You have to win another basketball title before Ironton can win another football title. That's the way it was the first two times.

If Portsmouth advances they will most likely face Cincinnati Summit County Day who defeated the likes of Dayton Jefferson by 20 plus early in the year. I really hope to see this matchup. Go Trojans!

Re: PORTSMOUTH VS OTTAWA-GLANDORF Final 4
I had reported prior to the Ironton game that Portsmouth had a 10-3 record in Elite 8 games......that was not correct......I omitted the Elite 8 games of 1925 and 1926, in which the Trojans lost both.......in 25 to Springfield, in 26 to Zanesville......with those games included, PHS now stands at 11-5 in Elite 8 games.
Also, this is Portsmouth's first back to back Final 4 appearance in school history........the Trojans did make 3 consecutive trips to the state tournament........in 1925, 1926, and 1927, but in only 1927 did PHS make the Final 4, losing to Dover in the semifinals.......the Trojans then lost to Dover again in 1929 in the semifinals.........Portsmouth has not made consecutive appearances at the state since the 1925, 1926, and 1927 appearances.
State appearances: 1925*, 1926*, 1927, 1929, 1931, 1934, 1939*, 1941*, 1961, 1978, 1980, 1988, 1990, 2011, 2012
*DENOTES STATE APPEARANCE BUT NOT FINAL 4 APPEARANCE
Above info was obtained from the 2011 OHSAA state tournament program, which lists every Final 4 participant since the tournament began in 1923.
