WEEK 2 - RECAP

After a huge 51-48 win over Alexander, the Vinton County Vikings took the early lead in the TVC-Ohio and will take its 3-1 overall record and 1-0 mark in the Ohio Division to Buchtel this Friday to face Nelsonville-York (4-2),(1-0). Alexander meanwhile will look to get back on track with games vs Cyan Ervin and Wellston on Tues and at county rival Athens Friday. It may be early, but some familar faces sit atop the Hocking Division standings as Trimble and Federal Hocking are tied for first. The last FIVE league championships have been decided between the Tomcats and Lancers. Waterford (2017) was ther last team not from Athens County to win a title.

All eyes will be on the Alley Classic in Albany this Saturday with a number of TVC teams scheduled to play.

With three weeks of high school basketball in the books, some very familiar names have found their way to the top of the TVC-Ohio standings. Since Athens joined the TVC in 2008, it and Vinton County have won or at least shared every single league championship. The Vikings have captured 9 Ohio Division titles in the last 14 seasons, while the Bulldogs have won 7. After a huge 48-43 overtime win over Alexander Friday, Athens improved to 2-0 in the Ohio and will travel to McArthur this Tuesday to face Vinton County (4-1),(2-0) in a battle for first place.

A similar story is playing out in the Hocking Division as well with Federal Hocking and Trimble sitting atop the standings. The two schools have won or shared the title the last 5 consecutive years. Since 2013 Federal Hocking has 3 league championships and Trimble has earned 6. Speaking of the Lancers, they picked up some huge wins recently that will go a long way when tournament seeding time comes around. Federal Hocking won at D2 Morgan, beat Belpre, and then took care of Eastern at home before knocking off Paint Valley 76-74 at the Alley Classic in Albany. Things don’t get much easier for the Lancers tough as they welcome Waterford (4-1),(1-0) to McInturf Gymnasium on Tuesday.
