Re: Open Jobs
According to the Fairland guy who told me about Speed leaving, that’s exactly what will happen.*84Dragon wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 8:38 pm If Speed does leave , Blaine Fuller will be taking over , should ne a smooth transition
Re: Open Jobs
Heard yesterday the Spring Valley WV job will be opening this week. I assume this is Speed’s intended destination. Losing 5 seniors from a team that made the class 4A semis.
Re: Open Jobs
Interesting, WV high school basketball is very weak compared to Ohio.TudorsGuy wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 9:12 am Heard yesterday the Spring Valley WV job will be opening this week. I assume this is Speed’s intended destination. Losing 5 seniors from a team that made the class 4A semis.
Re: Open Jobs
Yes it is from top to bottom, but a few West Virginia year in out could compete at the Ohio regional level
Re: Open Jobs
Yes, but it is easier to win a state championship in West Virginia, even with seven divisions in Ohio. Obviously Kentucky has everyone beat with just one division.E High wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 11:11 pm Yes it is from top to bottom, but a few West Virginia year in out could compete at the Ohio regional level

Portsmouth Clay has hired Larry Howell (Portsmouth West Girls) to be their next head coach.
Howell was also the boys varsity assistant.

Re: Open Jobs
That’s a great hire. He did outstanding with the girls program at West and the cupboard isn’t dry there, so he must have a nice feeling about the Panthers future hopes.2quick2catch wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 3:10 pm Portsmouth Clay has hired Larry Howell (Portsmouth West Girls) to be their next head coach.

Re: Open Jobs
5 seasons. Won a couple of sectionals, reached a district final. Best season was 18-6.Waverlyguru01 wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 5:56 pm How did he do at South Gallia I am generally asking because I don't know.
A couple of bad seasons as well, can’t leave those out, but just looking back it seems like he did fairly well.

He did fairly well at South Gallia with a couple of down seasons. He always seems to get more out of his players than the talent he has surrounding him. Great motivator. I don't know what Clay has but he will make them competitive I am sure.danicalifornia wrote: Thu Mar 27, 2025 8:54 pm5 seasons. Won a couple of sectionals, reached a district final. Re: Open Jobs
Exactly, you have to have players, of course great coaches can milk more wins out of less, but at the end of the day, you have to have talent. For example, Adam Cox struggled this year, I don't think he forgot basketball from the time he went to the State Tournament appearance to this year. Rick Uhrig is another example, although I would argue that his 7 or 8 wins this year with Huntington was the best coaching job in the area. Coaching "success" is so perceptual, look at just what happened at Meadowbrook, I think their coach had the most wins in year 1 as a head coach in school history, 3 years later and he is out of a job.Bmoc616 wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 8:28 amHe did fairly well at South Gallia with a couple of down seasons.
