Wheelersburgs defense has only allowed a couple of teams to get more than 40 points in the last 10 games or so and that is what has carried them to their 18-2 record. Unless Belpre is an offensive powerhouse I don't see them scoring much more than 40 points on the Pirates.

What's up with that? You can't cheer for a fellow SOC team? That's pretty pathetic if you ask me. I can see rooting against the Pirates when you play them, or maybe during the regular season when you would need the Pirates to lose to gain ground in the SOC race, but to blantantly root for a team from another conference when they are playing someone from your own conference is just childish. I'm sure just about everyone from the Burg was rooting for Minford the other night when they played Westfall because you support your fellow SOC schools, not root against them.

Grow up!

Game Day!
IF 'burg can maintain pressure without giving up easy hoops, Belpre will eventually become impatient & give them many, many forced/unforced turnovers...evident in many games this season, most recently Alex. This has to be frustrating to the Belpre coach; the skills are there...mental toughness can't be taught in 4 months. 'burg beware-Eagles have enough weapons to post an upset!!!

I am for Burg in this game and all others this time of year. I predict they have an easy win.

Do you get both games for the price of one or do they clear the gym.

It is my understanding the gym will be cleared prior to the 2nd game.

As bad as I hate to admit warriorfan you are right. Impatients leading to turnovers have hurt Belpre all year. Also the talent is their to pull the big upset. Looking forward to a great game tonight.

I won't make this game but hope to see the Burg come away with the win. I'd like to go see them up at the Convo once again and hopefully farther. Good Luck Pirates!

hey Eagle fans, don't tell anyone from the 'burg, but heard Belpre was working on breakin off an old Garrett trick...I recall several tournament games in the 90's that Belpre beat/competed with much talented teams by being very, very selective on the offensive end!!! Like holding the ball for 4-5 minutes at a time... 8-6 halftime scores and such...just what I heard!?! ;-)

Wheelersburg is not a high scoring team. Probably averaging near the mid 50's with their opponents averaging in the low 40's. They have also been know to have down nights in the shooting department.

Defense is the key for this Burg team. They play very quick and aggressive defense limiting the open shot selection of the opponents. Their defense allows them to not score a bunch of points and win ball games. As with all of Coach Barricks teams, they are fundamentally sound with a deep bench.

That would be quite interesting. From what I read above Belpre has a history of not taking care of the ball this year. Wheelersburg is known for their strong defense this year. I don't think those two things would make for a winning strategy. Burg would be very happy to be up 10-0 at the half. Burg is not a high scoring team and very patient, so I think this would be a big mistake.....

GO PIRATES!!

:-D Just trying to rattle some chains on my previous post about holding the ball... pretty sure that coaching philosophy is nowhere in Belpre's present staff's repertoire!!! as players or coaches!!!

It's not very often that you find rumors true, but what you heard about this team is dead-on...Characteristic of a relatively young team, the Eagles have handled the ball inconsistently all year long so it will be interesting how they react to the 'burg's defense and the championship atmosphere... with a net on the line, there's always a little more pressure!

Now THAT is hilarious BG!! I saw someone have that very same discussion with a friend of yours a few months ago and you supported your friend over the Burgite. Go figure.

Don't remember that. I always root for the local teams when they playing in the tourney as long as they aren't playing the Pirates. Enlighten me on the post you are refering to.

Belpre absolutely has to take care of the ball, and like some of you have already said, STAY PATIENT and do not force things. This game may end up verrry interesting IF the Eagles can do those things... ;-)

Wheelersburg 15
Belpre 6

end of 1st

Pirates with two turnovers in the last few seconds of the quarter led to 4 straight points for the Eagles.
