Re: South Webster 08-09
Well here's all I know about the roster (from a very reliable source):
Wes Loop
Matt Malone
Trevor Queen
Brandon Malone
Corey Haywood
Michael Richardson
Aarick Wiseman
Ryan McAllister
Connor Scott
The team captains are Wes Loop and Aarick Wiseman.
Again this is all i know about the roster, I don't know the JV players that will dress Varsity, but this is a good general idea.

Re: South Webster 08-09
Last word on this topic, promise. As the parent of "the player" discussed so extensively in this thread I want to point out a couple of facts. First of all he didn't play any JV last year. He was on the varsity although like several others on the team saw limited playing time. His sophomore year he played on the JV and started several games for Coach Cole. When tournament time rolled around Coach K asked him to practice with the tournament team. He also traveled with them and sat on the bench during the games although he didn't get to dress. When we thanked Coach K for allowing him the opportunity he said, "He's worked hard, he deserves it."
As for what has happened this year all I want to say is a very heartfelt THANK YOU to the many posters on this thread who have been supportive of my son. We have also received countless phone calls and other words of support and encouragement. It is nice to know that there are so many in the community, the school and on the team who feel as we do. It has been a difficult time for our family and again, I can't begin to say how much the support has meant.
Finally, we have always raised our boys in church and have taught them that regardless of what we face in life, God will always see us through. I know in the big scheme of life high school basketball is minor however this week it has loomed into a giant. My son has shown us that he has learned the lessons we have tried to instill in him well. Although he is shocked and extremely disappointed he has handled this situation with class, dignity and respect. I could not be more proud of him if he were on the starting team.
In closing, my best wishes to the boys on the team, especially the Seniors. Sorry we won't be there for your last hurrah!

Jeep 80, nice try, i won't say anything if you say your out of town and then don't claim to know things you don't. The new Jv coach is all the talk around town, besides the cuts, he is really keeping the young boys motivated. Yelling at them and cussing occasional too I've heard from some of the players parents. Sort of a change from last year, no yelling or swearing policy. The varsity roster has plenty of good talent, glad to see McAllister back out for some bball, this kid could really play some defense when he was younger. I think with this group we will have alot to talk about on here this year.

beentheredonethat: great post...it sounds like you have done a terrific job raising your son and that he'll get through this situation with your, and the community's, support.
jeep80: tread lightly...I apparently still am "out of town and trying to claim to know things I don't" (whatever that means???). Also try not to "disgust" anyone by posting your thoughts regarding high school basketball on an internet message board.*

Art, don't take anything people say on here to heart. Some people have alterior motives behind their posts and some just don't have a clue. Your posts on this thread have been respectful to everyone involved and much more mature than most others'.
I'm not falling into the debate about whether or not a kid should have been cut, simply because that is the coach's decision. I do think it is a good idea, at least at a school the size of Webster, to talk to each kid that was cut privately and explain why the decision was made. With that being said, I would guess that 90% of high schools post cuts.
Cuts are always going to hurt a few people, but from what I have read on here coach Reese has done nothing wrong. I miss the old days when I could count on Webster being the only school without negativity on this message board. I wanted to think it was because of the type of people in the community and not because we were having success.

Re: South Webster 08-09
pressbreaker: agreed...it's hard to understand where someone is coming from when they can't even point out what I said that offended them. And I definitely agree about a coach explaining to a player why he was cut, especially in the case of a player who'd put in 3 years of hard work for the program. But regardless, its time to talk some basketball.
From the above roster, looks like Webster will have some athletes but I still wonder where the scoring is going to come from. I look for Scott and Loop to become more assertive on the offensive end of the court, and for Malone to get his share of rebounds and put-backs. Hopefully Queen and Haywood can provide the toughness they need inside.
If someone has the time to post the jv roster as well, that'd be great as I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of those kids get some varsity minutes by the end of the year.*

... the Malone boys on the roster - are either of them the sons of either Rick or Bruce Malone?

No, they are not their sons. Their dad graduated from Clay I think.
Re: South Webster 08-09
thanks basketballparent - I went to high school with Rick/Bruce Malone at Glenwood back in the day ...

Heard the boys have a scrimmage tonight against Notre Dame...if any one goes it would be nice to hear how the boys did.
Re: South Webster 08-09
So how did the scrimmage turn out? I know it is only a scrimmage, but did anyone standout or have a good evening on the court?
Re: South Webster 08-09
I watched the scrimage but i'm not quilified to give a detailed account. In my opinion the boys looked like they have improved since last year.

Re: South Webster 08-09
I thought the Jeeps looked very good against Notre Dame. They are quick as lightning this year. Another thing i noticed they did was crash every offensive board, while limiting the other team to one shot on the other end. They need to work on slowing the ball down though. But hey...not bad for one week of practice.
I think South Webster will surpise quite a few people this year...

I thought Webster looked pretty good against Notre Dame at the scrimmage. Also thought the JV did a fine job also. Webster also has a freshmen team this year. I think there was about 10 games on the schedule that will be triple headers! Should be an interesting year!
