Oak Hill missed freethrow up by two with 10 seconds to go. Waverly couldn't get shot off. Oak Hill was up by 7 late in game, Waverly fought back hard.

How did Oak Hill manage to win? Did Ondera step up?

I thought the refs called a very loose game. When they call it that way, the game and fans seem to get out of hand. I've always said call the little ones and the big ones won't happen. Bodies were flying everywhere in a very physical game and Oak Hill only had four fouls called against them the last half, yet it was just as bad one way as the other. My next question is how far does Norman have to go to get a T. It's worth the price of admission to watch his antics on the sideline. Wavery has to pull it together for Friday night when undefeated South Webster comes a knockin'.

Norm was in rare form and does get by with more than other coaches. A state title helps

The officials allowed this one to be very physical and that helped Oak Hill neutralize Waverly's size. Game 2 should be a dandy.

The lead up on this game had heaps of posts about both PG's. What was the verdict anyone wish to voice an opinion?

Wow, what a game to watch as a fan! I love basketball and football, and last night I was able to see both on the same floor. :) I was very impressed with Ondera. He can shoot, he moves relentlessly without the ball, he's physical, and he has great vision (being 6'2 helps). He is also very unselfish. He's the best guard I've seen yet. We played hard...we just didn't play very smart at times. That happens when games get physical...sometimes you can get out of control.

I couldn't believe that we were killed on the glass like that. I"ve never seen another team do that to us this year (I missed the Logan Elm game). I thought Kretzer really battled on the glass all night. Unfortunately, I didn't think as a group we boxed out very well, and we let them own the paint. I think I heard on the way home, they took like 37 shots in the paint, compared to our 20 (that's not exact, but close). I think that tells the story.

Harrison was relentless offensively around the bucket, and I thought Dev did a nice job continuing to get better, taking that shot with confidence when it presents itself, and not being afraid to mix it up in there with the bigs. Kevin gave great effort last night, but Ondera showed how good he is by continuing to make big passes with a guy IN HIS GRILL all day.

I think last night can be a great learning experience. Oak Hill is the defending state champs, and they acted like it last night. We'll learn from this and use it to get better. We can't worry about it long, b/c undefeated South Webster comes in Friday.

I can tell you Travis would not get by doing what Norm does. He should have been T'd up last night.

Congratulations to the Oaks. They are a very well coached team that executes extremely well. How did Minford get to OT with these guys? Waverly totally dominated the Falcons.
The Tigers seemed very flat coming out, even in warmups. They appeared to be off their game for some reason. Oak Hill never pressed and played a zone all night but it was the EASY buckets and OFFENSIVE rebounds that killed the Tigers. The officials let them bang around all night underneath but then called some cheap ticky tack fouls. Missed a ton of walks by 00 (I think that was Cannon).

Waverly was down 7 with 1 minute togo but fought back and had a chance to tie or win but couldn't get a shot. Kretzer was wide open for a 3 if he could have gotten the ball.

Malone did an awesome job on Ondera. The kid is a glove. Ondera missed two freebies late that would have iced it, the last one a front end of a one and one with 12 seconds to go.

Kelly had a another good game for the Tigers. He continues to play with more confidence.

The Tigers need to pull it together and be ready for an undefetaed South Webster team on Friday. You have to be ready each and every night in this league.

Oak Hill won so yes, Ondera had the better game last night. I still think Malone did a heck of job on him.
You can't allow that many easy shots under the basket and give up the number of offensive rebounds Waverly did last night.

By the time Kelly got the ball in the last few seconds it was obvious he was looking for Kretzer, he dribbled toward Jake and Oak Hill did a great job of getting in the passing lane- the next opening appeared to be to Roback and if you think about it - him going to the hole was a great move however, he was fouled hard and lost control of the ball- it was a good foul because Oak Hill had three to give before we were in the bonus and they were trying to foul the only problem was the refs didnt see the need to call it. There is no way you throw a kid down that is 6'4" 220 pounds that is as athletic as Roback without fouling. Even if the call is made it would only give Waverly 4 or 5 seconds to score and who knows what would have happened.

Was it a little strange that Waverly had all those fouls and Oak Hill only had 3 or 4 in the second half- I would say its normal for that in Oak Hill and Waverly players need to expect it and be able to overcome that because it will be like that at Valley and Burg too.

I must admit the part about "who is the better point guard" has bothered me the entire week because to me it doesnt matter all that matters is who wins and Waverly lost and it doesnt matter who is better. I honestly can say I agree with Bookem about Ondera, he is the best player I saw last year and so far is the best I've seen this year. However, Waverly held him to 11 points and that is a credit to everyone who defended him. The rest of the year in the SOC is going to be wild, Waverly has not lost the league with this one loss and Oak Hilll hasnt won the league with the win.

I looked at it like the pressure was on Oak Hill to defend their home court and Waverly was simply going in to try to steal one and they came up 2 points short. The Tigers know they didnt play that well and should look foward to getting a chance to play them again and defend our home court.

Some great comments, bucki4life.

I agree about the foul on Roback. Oak Hill had fouls to give and it was obvious they wanted to foul. If you saw Ondera when he was at the line before he shot the FT, he was telling/motioning to his team mates to foul - do not allow a shot. The officials had to see that as well. Of course, the best thing for Waverly would have been the officials calling the foul but they didn't. End bounding the ball with 4 or 5 seconds would have been getter than what happened.

I agree, all the pressure was on Oak Hill to defend their home floor. They come to Waverly on February 5 and there is allot of basketball to be played between now and then. Waverly did not play well and they know it. What matters is how you respond to not playing well.
