Re Parkersburg South: They are the equivalent of a division 1 team regardless of how good they are. BTW, just lost by 1 the the #1 team in AAA in WV---Logan.

These polls are useless. I used to love them but they don't mean much of anything. Oak Hill just lost twice and one of those losses came to a below average fairland team and they are still #8. These polls are a joke.

PArkersburg south =452 boys 9-12 grade would be Div.1 (About the same as Logan, Oh)
Logan = 309 boys 9-12 would be div.2 (about the same as Chillicothe)

Correct Me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure OHSAA enrollment numbers are based on grades 9-11 not 9-12

You are right - it is the boys enrolled in grades 9-11 that determine division.

To be more clear ... it will be the boys (or girls) in grades 9-11 for THIS year that will determine divisional assignments for the next TWO years.

Someone is really high on Oak Hill. Is this merely respect toward Persin's accomplishments? Pretty gutsy move to keep them in front of Garaway/Greenview/etc. after two consecutive losses. I mean no disrespect toward Oak Hill though....they are a good team but I believe the parody in some of these polls are apparent.

Polls don't mean squat!!! All that matters is how far you go in the tournament! Chesapeake hangs that poll banner in their gym as AP Poll champions but didn't win it all! LOL what a joke!
Prove it in the gym not in the newpaper!

I wouldn't call them a joke. Polls on every level are very hard to predict, but its good for the kids and schools that never make it to the Final Four...even on the college level, very seldom does the number one team in the country win it all...but does that mean they're not deserving of being ranked based on their season accomplishments.
Here's some food for thought:
Last Years Final AP Poll before the tournament:

DI #1 Columbus Northland lost to #2 Gahanna Lincoln who lost to #12 Massillon Jackson (State Champs) who beat #5 Mentor and #9 Cincinnati Moeller who beat #4 Cincinnati LaSalle. AP Ranked 5 out of top 10 lost in Regionals, Final Four or became State Champs. Ratings B

DII #1 Akron Buchtel lost to # 10 Akron St. Vincent St. Mary, who lost to #6 Cleveland Benedictine, who lost to #2 Dayton Dunbar (State Champs) who beat #4 Port Clinton. AP Ranked 8 out of top 10 lost in Regionals or Final Four or became State Champs.
Ratings A-

DIII #1 Findlay Liberty Benton lost to unranked Lima Central Catholic (State Champs), #2 Middletown Madison lost to #6 Cincinnati Taft; #7 Peebles lost to #9 Ironton who lost to unranked Chesapeake who lost to State Champs Lima CC. AP Ranked 5 out of top 10 lost in Regionals or Final Four. Ratings B

DIV #1 Newark Catholic lost to #7 Dayton Jefferson (State Champs); #2 McDonald lost to #4 Shadyside in Regionals...AP Ranked 6 out of the top 10 lost in the Regionals or Final four or became state champs. Ratings B+

So, I wouldn't say the AP Poll is a joke....just hard to predict a state champion.

I think tend to lean to teams that have been there before or the coaches are very prominent in the state. Not always a bad thing, but obviously OAk Hill isn't imo even a top 5 team in our district lol. This is coming from someone who loves coach Persin. Facts are facts.

I don't see anything wrong with hanging #1 AP banners in your gym either. I think being 20-0 two years in a row and winning the state AP titles are something that few accomplish. Again, I know my views probably aren't very popular amongst a lot of fans on tradition, but I didnt need a final four appearence to justify our tradition at Chesapeake. Is Oak Hills basketball tradition stronger then ours because they won a state title? Not in my mind. Being good for a very very very long time means more to me then one year. Does South Webster have a better tradition then Chesapeake based on having a state title? Not in my mind.

BTW, Duke puts up banners for finishing the year #1 in the AP Poll, as does North Carolina. I don't think it is a joke.

Im sure the vast majority of schools in the southeast district would love to be able to hang even the AP poll banner in their gym.

While attending the Unioto-Piketon matchup a couple of weeks ago, I noticed they didn't even have a banner for their Final Four appearance. What is up with that? They have made the Final Four in both basketball and softball the last two years. That is something those kids will want to point out to their families 20-30 years from now. Compared to other schools, their walls were white and very bare.
I also got a good laugh over the conference flags. Those things look like they're 30 years old. The Huntington banner was brown lol

I'm not sure...The Golf Team went to the state a few times and the girls Power Lifting team won the state a couple of times. Its a shame...as a Piketon grad, I've asked people in the boosters why no banners...nobody can answer the question.

It's a shame the Southern Hills don't get much press coverage, because D4 powerhouse Manchester should be ranked...their only loss was a tight game against a very good Eastern team (who are 10-1, if I'm not mistaken)

Oak Hill is overranked...and I hope you guys were kidding about AP ranked #1 banners in the gym. I mean, an AP ranking is nice, but 100% meaningless when it comes to stepping out on the court. There are far too many schools in Ohio for the members of the AP to be well-informed about all of them, so lots of teams get high votes according to their reputations from previous years.

jc,

Not kidding at all. How many times did your school finish #1 in the state in the AP Poll?

If someone thinks it is so silly then go tell Duke and UNC that, if you walk into their gyms they have banners with #1 AP Poll banners hanging.

I think it is a proud accomplishment. I see no reason why you shouldn't be proud of it.
