Pfloyd, that is what I was getting at "BIGS" that know what to do in the post. I have worked with some of our players trying to get them to really what I call POST UP. Making them bigger than what they are. Wide base, show of hand where you want the ball, keeping the defender on their back, and making that power move when they recieve the pass. That takes work and desire to do it right. Starting to be a lost art. A good post player has to like contact and the physical play.

Heres the next big problem I see for the post players ( BIGS ). If you can get one to do what you want and post up right, the guards do not know how to make the proper POST ENTRY PASS!!! The next thing on my EXTINCT list, the good OLD BOUNCE PASS!!!!!!!

32,16,6 Thanks for making me younger than I am. I was out of college and coaching basketball when Dennis was playing in HS. And yes the game has changed a lot from my playing days. But I still LOVE the game!!!! GO TEAM WARREN WARRIORS!!!!!!!

Pfloyd, you really got a good post started on "THE BIGS" nice to have you back. To everyone that have posted no this subject, this is good STUFF!! How the game has changed, names from the past and how coaches have had to change the way they think in todays game. Everyone has voiced their opinion in a proper manner. I have enjoyed this! I think this is what Southeastern ohio preps is all about. Thanks again!!

I see this a lot as well. Either the passes are too early before they have the position sealed or the pass is too late and help has already came into the play.

I think I have watched IMO two of the best passers in the league this year. They have alot of nice no look, as well as bounce passes. and lobs. They total more than 50 assists, and could have had a few more, but we all miss a shot now and then. I think the pass all depends on floor position, and the guards knowing the abilities of their bigs.

One thing I have noticed is putting the ball on the floor for a power dribble, when its not necessary. I think sometimes we stray away from keeping it at the chest ,and going up strong. Gaining floor position by boxing out and using your legs to push the defender back alittle has kind of gone by the wayside as well.

Leslie from Northwest was a 6'4" center with great moves that was hard to stop in the post. Dylan Gragg of Huntington Ross is 6'2" and averages 17 points from the post, he to has great skills with his back to the bucket. A coach worth his weight in salt at the lower levels will encourage his kids to learn all facets of the game.

Starting in 3rd grade my father took me to tryouts for biddy ball, I could shoot a layup with both hands and dribble pretty well with both. I played the 1 and 2 guard until my fresh year when I shot up from 6'1" to 6'5" my jr year. I quickly went to the post, and being able to handle the ball well and understanding what the guards were seeing throwing the entry pass.

It has become a four letter word the Post! lol Its rough and this turns off some kids. That list of kids 6'5" and up that have made it in college at positions outside the post is short, compared to how many good average height centers that have roamed the hardwood around here! lol

There is nothing wrong with teaching a kid how to play any position when they are younger. You never know how big they will be when they reach puberty!

In re. to post and size......in today's game dominated by the three, it's all somewhat relative. Peake has 3 kids that can post...work that area but 2 can also knock down the 3 (McMaster and E Kennedy). Colin K is a true post but can shoot out to 15 +....just doesn't need to that often. Has developed a better left hand as well!
