Portsmouth's 15 state tournament appearances........11 of which are Final 4 appearances.........rank alone in second behind only Canton McKinley's 28 appearances. Cleveland East Tech holds the record for the most consecutive state tournament appearances with 6, appearing in the Final 4 every year from 1958-1963. Canton McKinley has been to the state tournament in every decade except the current one of 2010-present, while Portsmouth missed only in the 1950's and 2000's.

Here are this year's Final 4 participants and their number of Final 4 appearances:

Division 1: Pickerington Central........1, Lakewood St.Edward.........7, Toledo Whitmer........4, Fairfield.........2
Division 2: Dayton Dunbar.........8, Mentor Lake Catholic........1, Elida..........1, St.Clairsville.........1
Division 3: Portsmouth...........15, Cin.Summit Country Day.......3, Bedford Chanel.........7, Ottawa-Glandorf........6
Division 4: Berlin Hiland.........9, Col.Africentric..........3, Arlington........1, Jackson Center...........3

Portsmouth and Dayton Dunbar are both trying to win their 5th state title........the Trojans won in 1931, 1961, 1978, and 1988, while the Wolverines won in 1987, 2006, 2007, and 2010. If they get that 5th trophy, it will tie them with Columbus East for 3rd place on the all-time list, trailing only Akron St.Vincent St.Mary's 6 state titles and leader Middletown, which has 7........Ottawa-Glandorf won state titles in 2004 and 2008.

Info obtained from the 2011 OHSAA state tournament program.

thanks for seating chart Tobias! Pretty cool. We parked at the shoe last year for a few bux. Walked around inside, pretty cool. From people I have talked to with good info about Ottawa, I would prob compare them to a young Peake team, long, outside shooters . But I havent watched them so? Phs wins, and then will meet a team in the final on a little higher level. Good luck PHS.

At this point, any of the 4 teams can win it...I like this team to the Ironton team a while back that gave SVSM a run and almost beat them....I've got Portsmouth winning it all.

Congrats to Coach Eugene Collins and The Portsmouth Trojan nation for yet another Final Four appearance. I just finished talking to Craig Tubbs about our State Semi-Final game vs Ottawa Glandorf in 1978. Wow! has it been that long? It's amazing how you can remember so many things leading up to that game, but when the lights came on in a packed St. Johns Arena the chills and emotion was unexplainable. I'm proud of how this program has turned around and moved us all back into the Glory Days! It was awesome to be a Trojan fan last year during the State tournament run....I believe it will be even more exciting this year! Bring it home boys!

Great to see TROJANDAVE in the library and conversing with him about tomorrows state semifinal game between the PORTSMOUTH TROJANS and Ottawa-Glandorf titans. "GO TROJANS, WE ARE ONE".

Dont know anything about OTTAWA-GLANDORF so someone fill us in.
O-G plays in a 10 team D1 & D2 league. They are the only D3 team in the league. They were the 3rd place team in league with 7-2 league record. Defiance & Elida [In State Final 4 in D2] tied @ 8-1. They played 5 D1 teams this year with 6 on next years schedule. They have averaged winning over 70% of their games for over 30 Years. Have over a 1000 season ticket holders with 400 on waiting list. They have 2500 seat gym. Trojan asst. coach Arnzen from Delphos probably played against O-G when he was in high school & his dad coached against O-G many times.
