Re: What’s The Best Game You’ve Ever Witnessed?
Same for me. I was only 10 years old, but I remember people lining up right after school to get in. I remember sitting right up by the radio area, and the place being absolutely packed. MOJO did have a scoreboard in there shop with that final score on it, as the owner was a Wherle grad.

Probably Buckeye Trail vs. Indian Valley South in District at Marietta, and also following year in District (or was it regional at Warsaw)
Both games coached by legends Terry Leggett and Charlie Huggins.
Can't remember exact years (possibly early 80's) but both were sold out classics.
Don't remember scores either but it'd be a good bet 40 points was enough to win.
Hope someone out there from either of these schools remembers.

Three high school games I have Heard about but not witnessed. Listened to Chillicothe win the state championship on the radio with humpty dominating the second half. Have rode the bus and listened to Larry and Mike jordan talk about Southeastern and Wherle with Lawrence Funderburke. Have heard all of the western people talk about their regional final loss when they should have guarded the out of bounds but can’t remember who beat them in the barn on a last second shot. Greatest game I ever watched left me scarred for life, duke UK 1992. I still hate leatner. Favorite game, 2011 UK AN 8 seed beats the number one seed Ohio State with Brandon Knight knocking down the last shot over Aaron craft. I have that shot framed and autographed on my wall. Last but not least I will throw in the McClain and Waverly section final game last year. Waverly with three starters fouled out on the-bench. Robertson hits two threes in the final minute to keep waverly in it. McLain missed a ton of free throws. Marquez hits a thirty five footer sideways to win it at the buzzer!

1970 Waverly beating Columbus Walnut Ridge at the Convo to advance to the AA Final Four. Phil Miller with the winning shot for the Tigers who also featured Denny Thompson, Bob Fout, John Kouns, and Ted Downing. Ridge featured Ed Stahl and Brad Hoffman, who both went on to play for UNC. Sadly both Downing and Stahl both passed away this fall.

2. Portsmouth 63, Cleveland Cathedral Latin 62..... 1978 Class AA state championship......my first time in St.John Arena (sat on the very top row)
3. Portsmouth 62, Columbus East 61....1983 regular season.....current coach Eugene Collins made a 12 foot baseline jumper at the buzzer.

2. Lucasville Valley 58, Portsmouth 55...2014 district championship....Chris Flowers' 3 pointer at the buzzer wins for the Indians.

CoachBB: You're absolutely right......I did that list off my head and I knew I probably forgot some game or two........I was at that game, and Unger not only made the clutch shots, he scored 40 points. The Trojans actually were 10-11 going into that game, and had a lot of talent, but it didn't at times show in the results.

Re: What’s The Best Game You’ve Ever Witnessed?
The game vs Cin Forest Park, in my opinion, was the greatest of all. It took a long jump shot from Jason Taylor as time expired just to send it to overtime. I've never witnessed a more dramatic win for the Trojans.trojandave wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 11:48 am So many great games involving the Trojans......here's a few that I will always remember, in no particular order:

As far as Forest Park, Alex Davis was a star and Carlton Gray was a man among boys..
Dave I believe that game was actually in 88 and propelled the Trojans (led by Patrick Tubbs) to the state championship. There was no stopping this team after that incredible win.
Re: What’s The Best Game You’ve Ever Witnessed?
This contest between Peebles and New Boston was a pretty good one tonight. A knockdown dragout.
Re: What’s The Best Game You’ve Ever Witnessed?
The game tonight between the Peake and Ironton will be remembered for awhile. Being down 20 in the 3rd and outscoring the Tigers 38-16 to win by two is a classic.
Re: What’s The Best Game You’ve Ever Witnessed?
Sounds like you had fun tonight as well. Some good coaching calls tonight I'm sure. Congrats.

Re: What’s The Best Game You’ve Ever Witnessed?
1996: North Adams/Miami East State Semi-Final: everyone in St. John Arena knew the shot was late except for the only guy in there whose opinion mattered (the ref). Still feel bad for NA.
1990 or 1991?: Portsmouth/Ironton Sectional Final at South Webster: Portsmouth banks in a half-court shot at buzzer to force overtime, then goes on to get the win.
1991: South Webster/Unioto District Semi-Final at Convo: back and forth game that Unioto wins on a buzzer-beater. Unioto went on to finish as State Runner-up.
1995: Wheelersburg/Minford Regional Final at Convo: Burg holds on for a 1 point win (57-56?) in a great game. Shame someone had to lose that game. Burg ended up State Runner-up.
2004: South Webster/Mansfield St. Peter's Regional Final at Ohio Fairgrounds: nobody gave Webster much of a shot in this one, but they hung around and got the win in the 4th quarter by a score of 65-61 to get to State.
Could list a whole bunch more, but these are the ones that stand out from watching a whole bunch of SE Ohio basketball over the years.*

Re: What’s The Best Game You’ve Ever Witnessed?
artvandelay: I believe the Trojan game you are referring to was the 1989 sectional final at SW, in which Daryl Lisath banked in a tying 3 pointer at the buzzer, and eventually Portsmouth won the game in OT 63-55.
I was at the 1995 Minford--Wheelersburg regional final, and if I remember correctly Minford missed 2 FT's with just seconds remaining that would have given them the win. Heartbreaker for the Falcons in that they had never been to the Final 4. Wheelersburg went on to lose to Orrville in the D3 state championship game.
